IF FD would give the starting scenario training grounds a mult-player option ED would be able to have something similar but with a larger arena.

Why?

We already have the "PU Module" in ED. There's already an accessible area that's one third the size of what's planned for SC ever. With Beta 2 and around 500 systems, it'll be several times the size of what SC plans. And with the final release.. well you get the idea.

There's really no need for a "multiplayer arena level" because Elite is not a deathmatch space shooter. What they need to flesh out, and FD knows that very well, is the actual game content, the stuff that keeps you playing, the *reason* for why you'd ever have a fight in the first place.

I don't need or want SC to feel the same as elite. But they sure could've focused on one thing first and get the core gameplay right, instead of doing all at the same time and have nothing feel right.

Coincidence? Probably not since the Lead Concept Artist of the movie is George Hull, ConceptArtist for other blockbuster movies like Matrix, Transformers, Elysium etc which also happens to work with Star Citizen and designed the recently sold Reclaimer Ship, manufactured ofc by AEGIS. Also the buggy from the trailer at 1:24 looks very similar to SC one:

Not to burst your bubble but it does not in fact say Aegis Dynamics, it just says Aegis, it is also most likely the name of the ship, not its manufacturer (most movies don't care about who made something, unless the movie is about the manufacturer). The word Aegis has been around for thousands of years, As the movie is about mythology and the word aegis is considered an attribute of Zeus and Athena, there is very little reason to think that it is linked to SC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aegis

Next people will be saying that any time a movie has the word "origin" it is referring to SC.

You will walk away and the house wins.

The house has already won. They have my money and I have very little to show for it, and the prospect of getting anything worthwhile for my money is decreasing with every new release.

I think the detail level of stuff in SC is totally cool but the ship designs just don't do anything for me.

What is the lore for the engines and fuel- I haven't seen a gas tank on any of these. In ED you have to have Tonnes of hydrogen in big tanks and room for that.

The designs are pretty but they are a big turnoff for me- these are airplanes and have lots of unneeded and illogical bling. If they were part of SC for in Atmo stuff or if they supposedly burn magical Ether or something that would be OK I guess. But for the BDSSE these make no sense.

To be honest, there isn't very much to show for it, since it's nowhere near a full game yet.
Wait for 2017-2018 and then see :)

Well SQ 42 will be rolling out mid 2015/Early 2016. But yeah the PU probably wont be out until end of 2016 as a full game. They plan on having the PU alpha at start/mid 2015.

I'm not as pessimistic, mostly due to the dumb funding. I mean really, a person would never pay $300 for a video game in a store. But it does depend on what you mean by "worthwhile".

I think it might become worthwhile because I think CR thinks he has the cash now to clone ED. He will try to do a "one-up" on the graphics side with super-high polygon models and the single-player campaign.

I am not being sarcastic either. Look at the history. He backed ED and has access to the DDF. He ditched the CryEngine Shattered Worlds approach and decided to re-write the engine for DFPP and 64-bit in key areas to give a bigger seamless play-area at 1:100 scale. He has recently said he was negotiating with PG experts very experienced in space stuff (like Space Engine, perhaps), to bring them on in an admission that it is impossible to create even 70 fully detailed star systems in a lifetime by hand-crafting, let alone enough stars for an Exploration mechanic. And every 10ftC I have watched I think after the question as CR is answering "the answer is... just like in the ED DDF posted in 2013."

Otherwise, what CIG delivers is aligned with the original plan, which was a bunch of dogfighting scenarios on small-for-space CryEngine level maps, FPS scenarios with various location maps (starships, ground locations), AC and Murray Cup, all linked by the Hangar Module and loading screen animations.

SQ 42 and PU are coming along nicely in the backgrounds. With playable missions and builds CIG seems to be really nailing down the gameplay of those sections of the game behind the scenes. FPS seems to be whats really close now. Looking forward to what will happen with that at PAX Australia.

Around the same time where we can land on planets and walk around our own ship in Elite as well.

Damn i'm gonna have to work less to be able to play these two games.

CIG have their own definition of "on schedule" as has been demonstrated ever since AC was first released.

They are so exactly punctual, it's perceived as late ;)

Well the problem here is that CIG is sharing their internal release dates, which they should not. If anything they should just hold on until they know they will hit a hardline date and give it like FD does. But hey whatever.

Well, we shall see how those are coming along in the coming months ;-)...First set of missions is supposed to come our way Mid 2015 so we will see.

Well, I had two thoughts, being able to jump in and out of the game for a really short bit of fun without any risk was one. It seems to me hard to play 10 minutes of Elite without investment, but with something like AC I would think is much easier to do that and it could also give rabid PvP folks somewhere to go to feel more satisfied and sell the game to friends, which could be part of the success I hope for ED sales.

The second part of my thought is since I view SC as moving to clone Elite, it could work both ways.

But, I totally get your point and I also would prefer the staff at FD work on the expansion modules and game content as priority.

One final thing though, if you think CR is now going to settle for 70 or 100 systems ("what CS plans"), you need to dig in deeper. CR said in a Gamescom interview that to have an exploration mechanic he has to get ProcGen experts to help build a galaxy because the player base will eat up 100 systems in one week. IIRC, he also said it was impossible to fully hand-craft even one star system in a lifetime, what with multiple planets, rings, asteroid belt, huge cities and landscapes, etc.

You have seen them?

Well, just because you don't see them does not mean they are not being worked on. Just like a ton of the planetary stuff they are currently working on and showed a small glimpse of it not long ago.

I don't think they will show much of SQ 42 until release date because it is story driven so it would give out spoilers, but I would expect some snipets/trailers in early 2015 showing it off.

Just curious, but it seems odd that I never see posts for you on any other thread in the ED forums, except one where you were advertising another game in a thread that didn't go anywhere. I even reviewed all your posts from your profile page.

Do you attempt to contribute any ideas to any other threads at Frontier? Or are you only here to promote/defend SC?

I'm all for a little talk about other games on a Frontier forum (that's why there are these off-topic threads, and I have a couple posts in a few off-topic threads myself). But really maybe you could share some ideas for Elite- if I recall correctly you said in a post that you backed it? Or is my memory faulty on that one?

I agree with Helfix on this. The two Devs that built the Murray Cup map even said they were glad to be done to go back to Sq. 42 work.

I would imagine CIG have learned a bit and will keep the focus and date feeding on AC going as long as they can so they don't have to drabble out Sq.42 and get beaten up about that.

CR said in Gamescom interviews that they were looking for space to start filming Sq.42 cut-scenes for end of Q4 and early 2015.

I have no doubt it is being worked on in some way, is the whole CIG idea of developing all the modules in parallel.

But Sq.42 will be standalone, not really part of the PU, so it should come earlier perhaps than expected for the PU part of the game, which iirc from the original kickstarter was going to be the last bit anyway.

I haven't read all of this post - it would take a couple of days!

But what I have read most of the replies are mild mannered.

I didn't know anything about SC - so looked at some videos and on the website. I have to admit its a very 'pretty' looking game.

I went on their forum - and my goodness - the vitriol they have for ED - its terrible! The comments I read were just awful - talk about slagging off!

Now I know at times the posts on here can get a little 'hot' - but nothing compared to SC!

I wish both ED and SC all the luck in the world, but I think ED has the edge because the core game is here already, the same cant be said for SC.
