ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Adam Lusardi Yes Tuesday should be fun I'm hoping my one 7970 will hack it as just up graded from a formidable 6870 due to the Rift

Hi Adam , I have a HD 7970 card to with the rift, well so far ED has more judder since V1.06 from V1.04. so juddery sometimes kicks me from the game, same here B2 should fix it, fingers crossed :)

Looks like the GTX 980 has some great performance then! Thanks for posting this. :)

I just went and did some tests for the sake of comparison on my GTX 780. I'm using a DK1, so it won't be direct comparison, but it gives an idea.

I set the resolution to 1920x1200:

Supercruise: 56fps
Federal Distress: 48 - 57fps
Hathor Rings: 50-57fps
Dahan Station Outside: 52 - 62fps
Inside Station: 26-32fps :eek::eek:

And at 1280x800:

Supercruise: 89-95fps
Hathor Rings: 80-85fps
Dahan Station Outside: 72+ fps
Dahan Inside Station: 60-62fps

My specs:
i5 2500k
GTX 780 SC
8gb Ram

All at stock speeds.

Your i5 k is at stock speed?
Why bothered to buy a k series?
Putt it at 4400 and redo your test plz
:)

Strange thing happening now. I haven't done any tinkering with settings or whatnot, but firing up ED on the DK2 now - I get a greenish hazy background both for the intro picture and while in space, instead of normal black background. Colors in space ports are all right, but my black seems awfully contaminated now. Anyone else experiencing this?

Also, in game the refresh rate is locked at 60. Is that correct?

Edit: Nevermind, fixed. AMD R9 290X, seems like I somehow have managed to enable "supersamling" in the anti-aliasing method. This messed up the colors. Back to adaptive multisamling and stuff is black again. Hz back at 75 as well.

Someone else with a DK2 reported green colours yesterday if I remember rightly, might be worth doing a search to see if it got resolved.

Ooosh...

reading this thread is scaring me :(

Seems to be a lot of people having hiccups and issues with DK2, i have ordered mine about 2 weeks ago, so it will be a few more weeks until ''that happy moment'' arrives.
I hope these creases get ironed out by then as ED is going to be the main game of use for the DK2 for myself.
I'm glad to see other people have it working just fine, hope I'm one of the lucky few who does not bump into lots of issues.

Thanks in advance to all the people who have posted help and tips about the DK2 in this thread. I'm sure some of them will come in handy. :)

95% of my time spent in game with the DK2 has been jaw droppingly awesome, my last hiccups were due to silly tinkering with options better left alone in the Catalyst menu. I have a R9 290X, and although it's stuttering in space ports I have a wonderful time in my little Viper cockpit.

Hopefully come tomorrow a lot of the performance related issues will be dealt with and the upgrade to the newer OR SDK will make things more stable (no AMD CPU issues or having to pause the service etc..).

My motherboard doesn't allow overclocking. :(

Been thinking about replacing it...may get around to it at some point.

Ic
Well Ddr4 is in the market already wile that will become cheaper Ddr3 will become more expensive and the mobo you need slowly ready for extinction.
I think now would be a good time to look for a cheap 2e-hand. Not to overclock a Kseries cpu is a waste they're made for that and its easier then you might think.

Don't worry. It really was childs play for me to set up - but I wasn't trying out some of the exotic things that people on here do (although I've since tinkered).

But come tomorrow, it should be childs play. I hope someone updates the second post in this thread for the new B2 instructions, although I'm hoping the only instruction needed will be "plug it in".

Ah that's ok then, im always trying to improve myself, first thing im trying is the downsamplin on the DK2, but before getting into all that, it be preferable to just plug n play for the first time with no issues, then the tweaking would come after...

Anyhow, with my DK1 i never had a single issue running things, but heard of loads of people having trouble with this and that, but i guess either they didnt have a clue what they were doing, or i was just lucky...
So i hope my luck continues on when im using the DK2 and hardly get any issues.

So "dozens" of vocal people out of how many thousands with zero issues? I didn't realise that the time you spend on reddit qualifies you as much as having first hand experience and lets you become an expert. Maybe I should go and look at some medical reddits and hand out some advise to my local hospital ...... I'm glad you're happy with your arm-chair expert status.

You need to chill out. Needlessly rude posts are not a theme in this subreddit, we have a respectful community here. He is giving you info that the creators of oculus and plenty of techies have agreed with. ...... have a polite exchange with folks that share your hobby. Not saying you should lose sleep over it, but you should be ashamed of your comments here"

Down scaling didn't make a difference to my eyes.

hmm, i have only ever down sampled my flat screens before, and it does make a huge difference, but doing it on a mobile phone screen??? im curious i guess, but i dont think it will be worth it either, but that being said, its worth a punt :)

I thought there was a small improvement in image quality running it at 1440p on the rift.
If I can get a constant 75fps at 1440p on the DK2 with semi high settings that's the only way I'd run it.
With performance as it is I won't be. Fingers crossed for tomorrow ;)

Just wish it looked as good as it did on my 1440p Monitor though.
