Yeah, strange human beings we are, aren't weHmm, was initially supportive, thinking OP was just posting for a bit of support after messing up - as an experienced player they must know they messed up. But ... wanting the data back when they had been in dock and specifically chosen not to sell ...This whole I'm gonna go cry to support meme is going too far - fair enough for n00bs who get caught out on first time doing something maybe, but experienced players ... sheesh

Because he's asking to be first person to discover and hand in those systems - which under game rules usually means without dying. But he died. And AFAIK it wasn't to a game bug, it was to AFKing. Give him the CR if you must, but not the discoveries: he messed up - he should own that decision.why would that make a difference in this case? this is not a noob. it was just carelessness, he himself is pretty clear about that.
now, my viewpoint wouldn't change even for noobs, they have to learn like everybody else, but i'm just curious why you give such importance to such an inconsequential (imo) detail.

No - I answered - you're just doing that logic chopping things some on here like - have fun!you didn't really answer my question. would that be different if he had not docked and chosen not to sell data?

"as a one-off gesture of goodwill"
Yeah, old habits die hard.Hi all, thanks for all the comments, both positive and negative - I can see both points of view here, and would have been accepting of the judge's decision either way.
I am happy (from my point of view) to report that FD have decided to be gracious and have restored most of my exploration data "as a one-off gesture of goodwill". I am grateful, and suitably chastised. I hope to learn from this mistake.
For those who have said, "Why didn't you just log off?" my answer is this: up until about a year ago, I was playing ED on a real old, slow PC. It literally took ten minutes to load the game, so I learned to avoid logging off unless I "really needed to". I now have a much better PC, the game loads nearly instantly, but I never "reprogrammed myself" in terms of logging off. I shall now endeavour to do so. I leave it up to the forum to decide whether this is a valid reason, or just an excuse.
