Hence all those capital ships and stations dropping like flies early in the invasion. A fleet carrier would be no different.

500LY looks far, but how often can they jump? And until we know the fuel cost, it's pointless guessing. It's unlikely to make travel much if any faster, unless you wanted to transport your fleet to colonia or sag a* or wherever... Mobile bases for DW# maybe...So it seems like it's Carriers plus purpose-specific support vessels? Interesting.
As for the 500ly range making it too easy to travel, I imagine it will be much too expensive in time/resources to use it just to nip out to Colonia in less jumps. i suspect the amount of work required to do those jumps will mean - rightly - they are difficult to move, but worth it for certain purposes for some commanders/squadrons.
