Not necessarily. Maybe they just drop and fields keep enough atmo in the bay for outfitting... It would be a change from standard methods, but with limited space, who knows.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Possibly - or maybe a two piece clam-shell lid is raised over the retracted landing pad.

Speculation is fun! ;)

TopSpeed = 0 m/s - they jump from normal space to witchspace directly and vice versa back to an orbit - so they build the center of their Instance, hence have 0 m/s relative speed

uups ninjaéd
But what about ACJ''s, having no attitude correctional jets would be suicidal, and with ACJ's you could 'over time' move the thing!

* now let's get back to reality *

Clearly one can speculate a lot - and imagine/wish even more - but we should keep our feet on the ground with everything.

FD designs features in a way that they can be solved with the existing means of game mechanics (basic procedures).
To redesign the basic programming every time would not only be uneconomical, but also a quantum leap compared to what FD already delivers :ROFLMAO:.

So let's have a look at what's possible with the already existing game procedures

Carrier interface:
after docking at the carrier the well-known station mask (like at Engi´s), nothing on the left, fuel, ammo, equipment on the right?? and a link to submenu (instead of Engi-Workshop here Fuel-Depot) where you can "donate" collected fuel to the ship. Whether only the owner himself or also friends with landing permission, one will see.

There will be a shipyard, but without the possibility to acquire new ships, the possibility to have ships transferred to the carrier, yes, otherwise the carrier makes no sense as a "personal" fleet carrier. Number and size of ships limited to the corresponding configuration of pads.

If a carrier is full, invited friends cannot dock!

With appropriate "personalization", the marketplace, Universal Cartographics or (and?) contacts according to the role are activated/provided in the carrier menu on the left.

Navigation:
So far large ships move according to a timetable (flight route and server tick), flight routes can be planned with Galmap & Sysmap, on Sysmap only stars, planets and moons should be selectable as targets (avoidance of instance problems) with activation of the jump (carrier main menu ??? / Galmap) the same sequence will run through which otherwise the server tick triggers - hopefully with reasonable animation...

Instancing:
Only Wing members and invited friends with landing permission will see the signal source of the carrier in the system, otherwise the servers would melt when 5000 Cdr are parking their carrier in Shinrarta .

For the same reason you will NOT be able to bring the carriers into the same instance with a station, at most into one orbit around one station - analogous to the rescue ships during Tharg attacks.

edit: interesting question though: if You are running a mining/trading carrier and friends deliver goods to your carrier - will they donate the stuff to your FC or do you have to pay them? Pricebase? That could get a nice way to exploit your friends - you pay em 2000Cr/to VO´s and later sll them for 1,6 Mio :D

This is the Frontier Elite: Dangerous forum. This will be hyped to high heaven then when those imaginations aren't met, the people will complain of being disappointed.
I know :D, but even if it will be implemented as I described above (which is quite below some of the expectations posted above) - I still see it as a big leap forwrd to private ownership of stations and planetside outposts - a thing which a lot of people demand since long as well.
That there is a certain amount of people here which are notoriously disappointed/underwhelmed, well I give credit to human nature, nevertheless, can´t be that bad, they are here still, aren´t they ;)

If we continue your suposition, that they will use the tools that they have, then cargo storage on the carrier will be a commodity market. That will either be at galaxy average prices or at prices you set. I don't think linking it to the BGS will make any sense when it can move around and might be far from the bubble. I would expect the owner at least to be able to buy and sell at the same price, which makes it effectively cargo storage.

People are so not going to like it when ten FCs drop into a contested system on a Wednesday night.

If the price is settable then the trader option allows you to set up your own shop that the public can buy from and sell to.

thats actually my point and my suspicion as well - might be the reason why they didn´t try to fix the BGS yet - after FC a complete overhowl will be necessary...
imagine only ONE FC selling biowaste 👀

Are we sure about that?

It may be that Fleet Carriers, in and of themselves, will have absolutely no effect on the BGS - it'd be the CMDRs embarked on the Carrier that would (as they do now).

yes, of course - but if you transport 20.000 tons of waste from Ceos to lets say Rohini, park your FC in the orbit of station/planet and move all that waste within 2 hours by selling it on the station (by T9 or Cutter) - under current BGS that system is in outbreak already.
Or imagine a Minnig-FC delivering 10.000 units of Void opals in a contested system :D

edit: might even be the reason why the release of FC was postponed until now - FD will have realized the implications....
edit2: same for CG´s - current levels are a joke if FC are comming....

Where did the 20,000 tonne figure come from?

.... it would seem to make the assumption that we would be able to store cargo on Carriers separately from ships.

It may be that no off-ship cargo storage is available on Carriers (just like in any other dock).

the 20.000 is just a figure, but a FC specialised in Mining/Trading (with its support-ship! as storage) without the ability to store cargo is in my point of view not logical.
You would mine the cargo-hold of your T9 full and cannot use any of your other stored ships anymore ? Just would be dumbass....

As I have said before, Fleet Carriers put ED's flaws into sharp focus. Either they cannot store cargo or they break PP. And if they don't store cargo and you still have to carry all your cargo with you then they are effectively useless for solo players. You're out void mining and you want to swap ships? Tough luck; your exploration ship doesn't have enough cargo space. But a squadron FC can carry 16 ships full of cargo.

Something will have to change.
