Where did the 20,000 tonne figure come from?

.... it would seem to make the assumption that we would be able to store cargo on Carriers separately from ships.

It may be that no off-ship cargo storage is available on Carriers (just like in any other dock).

True, there is no hint on cargo storage, or any storage whatsoever beyond our ships (and even storing more than one ship is, for now, speculation).

But on the other hand, what could be a "trading specialization carrier"? If it just means that the carrier would have cargo racks on outfitting, it would be a bit pointless, as anyone trading will already have cargo racks installed on his ship.

From my point of view, carriers bare minimum will allow storing our ships (all - or a high limit) and store our modules (also all, or a high limit). Beyond this everything is in the realm of speculation, but if there are "support ships" I assume they'll be for something...

Worst case scenario is that support ships is just a visual representation of the "station menu buttons" we unlock when choosing the carrier specialization. But that would make the support ships so pointless (why having them at all just for fluff - same fluff could be applied just to the carrier itself) that it really has to be something more.

with PP and BGS you put the finger on the wound - but hey - if I take that thought further, it IMHO even will flatten out lots of the problems, as the market-volatility will decrease significantly as markets would stabilize themselves. Price spans would decrease as well....
Same applies for PP, hence BGS would actually get nearer to a society-simulation. No more real influence of an eager group of 20-50 Cdrs to topple a system with 20 Bio population in days....

A 20000t cargo capacity would be messed up on so many levels....
Imagine a trade CG, loading up your carrier with the required commodities at a low price high availability system anywhere within 500ly of the delivery point, then making that single carrier jump and unloading.
CGs would end within a day, and players with outr carriers could not make any meaningful contribution anymore.

As I have said before, Fleet Carriers put ED's flaws into sharp focus. Either they cannot store cargo or they break PP. And if they don't store cargo and you still have to carry all your cargo with you then they are effectively useless for solo players. You're out void mining and you want to swap ships? Tough luck; your exploration ship doesn't have enough cargo space. But a squadron FC can carry 16 ships full of cargo.

Something will have to change.
Fair point.

Speculating, again, it may be that the current convention on stored ships with respect to cargo may be relaxed for Carriers and that a player would be able to transfer cargo to a ship stored on a Carrier when they dock at the Carrier.

All these concerns are valid. I think FD have thought them through, or will do when you raise them. My opinion is that things will balance out, with or without FD's help. It definitely will be a new era...

Pleased to hear about modular upgrades. It would be awesome if a high end modular upgrade added NPC fighters / defense flying in formation around your fleet carrier (just like they do around stations). If this isn't already planned for - could FDev make it happen?

Also - how about a WEDDING BARGE loadout? :ROFLMAO: If I want to get married in ED then I'd expect to turn permissions on and have Commanders join me for the first time I've seen my whole family together.

SO I ran the numbers a little here. If you can store ships on a carrier with a hold of cargo, the max you would realistically carry is 7,816t. That is 8 T9s, 4 pythons, and 4 dolphins all set up with all cargo racks and a docking computer.

Not a particularly game-breaking amount IMO

... and it'd be 7,904t 7,856t using Cobra MkIV; Type 7 Python (obviously) and Imperial Cutter. ;)

But before you can do that you have to find thousands of tons of Void Opals, for what?

LOGICAL QUESTION:

How do we get all of our ships ON TO the carrier?

I buy one > Fly my cutter to it and land > How do I go retrieve the rest of my ships?

And since there won't be any hangers on board ... can we view our "fleet" of ships out in front of us on the landing pads?

I assume ship transfer. If there is no ship transfer on the carrier, then I see no point to them. Since the start, I have assumed they will have some iteration of a shipyard that can do transfers but not buy/sell locally
