Still waiting for better communication?
Moreso the latest-latest patch (on the mission board fix) was announced in-game via the info panel, and only later a forum post popped up.
Normally companies make statements like "lessons have been learnt" after a cockup, but from Zac's positive noise posts in this thread and whats happened since, I don't actually see any evidence of a change away from the same business practices. Or communication to that effect.
To be fair, I think jasonbarron mostly played at a time where there weren't pinned blueprints and the rolls were random, so it definitely took a lot more time to G5 a ship then now.It takes about two hours to G5 a brand new ship, provided you have the right blueprints pinned and you've been scooping mats as you go. Add on an extra hour or two to nip round and apply the experimentals.
Different games expect different time investments to see all of their "jewels". Indeed this notion of accelerating credit progress so everyone can forget about credits has high negatively impacted the game for me. I have 1500 hrs in the game and due to how I play am still scratching the surface. But because of how the game is balanced too much of the game is currently pointless from a role play perspective. How many hours do you have in game already ?. The average playtime of a video game is (IIRC) about 20 hours.
Well, back then they actually added something gameplay related, this time they didn't and when the release is bugged down and even unplayable, some of us are less forgiving. Why would they change anything ?.
Its just the usual post patch meltdown, this ones actually quite tame. The great Horizons teddy throwing was epic in comparison, much stuffz was hazzed.
Buy ARX!Well, back then they actually added something gameplay related, this time they didn't and when the release is bugged down and even unplayable, some of us are less forgiving.

Nowadays you put 3-4 G5 rolls in your ship and you're competitive...

I have no idea how to fix it or if it can be fixed (perhaps I am wrong and it shouldnt be) but imo the entire balance needs rethinking so as to give thinks like piracy and non mission salvage as well as traditional trade purpose again and credits completely redone. OTOH most (maybe not all) materials should be purchasable for credits imo.
Why on earth should iron sulphur and the like be impossible to buy with credits . (Other than "because game" which I think is a cop out myself)

Not very, but it's still time spent in a game. Considerable time. But it's good the way it is now I think.I'm not sure how relevant a pre engineer's MKII gripe is to the game as it now is really.
Did you dust off your router or plugged in the WLAN cable?Had some friends from college over (we graduated 30 years ago) tonight for some wing assassination missions. Duplicates of the target wing populated the instance 3 times. A few times we populated in separate instances despite nav lock. We had a good time, but not near as much fun as playing Mechwarrior 2 (1995), Baldur's gate (1998) and Borderlands 1 (2015). Those games worked. Every single time. Yeah, yeah - LAN vs. interwebs. We've also played GW, GW2, ESO and Conan. They also worked - every single time. This game is not AAA. This game is not BBB. This game is a vanity project. People take it a little too seriously.

Except legacy Plasma AcceleratorsIts a nice example of ED listening to the playerbase and then making tailored improvements to suit.
I think you are right it was deliberate I guess I just disagreeI'm not sure how relevant a pre engineer's MKII gripe is to the game as it now is really.
Credits are just a side effect to me, I never really chase them but keep on accumulating them anyway. When I run missions its always for the +++'s and the fun.
Maybe they want to separate things from pure credits, to prevent people just relying on the latest cash-exploit/goldmine/grind. Engineer's MKII was a definite grind limitation move. They took away peoples option to endlessly try to get that extra 0.001% possibly because the people doing it were so obviously unhappy with it.
I think its deliberately built in variety, like the engineer unlocks make people try different things no matter their personal preference.
I think ARX are great, a few free paints/weapon colours a year is a bonus for me.
Except legacy Plasma AcceleratorsBut I accept that crusade is lost...
I dare say that Elite: Dangerous has become poster boy for why this "early access 10 year development plan" business model just isn't a viable product for the consumer. That pretty much sums it up for me.
The game as it stands is looking more and more like discarded heap of half built and/or broken toys coming in mismatched styles.
Even then, the last patch exceeded my expectations in terms of QA mediocrity.
Thank god that exploration is still good
Don't get me wrong, I had great times in that game and audio design is second to none.
But the longer it goes, the harder it is not to see the rotten wood beneath the aging shiny paint.
Thanks for the link! This is from the kickstarter FAQ, it puts space-feet firmly in the future potential DLC bracket :

Elite: Dangerous
Take a ship and 100 credits to make money legally or illegally - trade, bounty-hunt, pirate, assassinate your way across the galaxy.www.kickstarter.com
Can I leave the space ship?

Yes, but not in the initial release. The core release of the game focusses on the ships and space. We'll then be working to expand the game. This includes exploring your ship and space stations. The potential content for Elite is huge,so we're keeping a sensible strategy to add to the game in stages.
