CMDRs now playing for ARX

AS far as I'm concerned, the arx is nothing but a nice bonus. It hasn't changed the way I play or the amount of time I play. And it won't, I'f I started playing to get a remuneration, It would stop being a hobby, and become a job.

If I ever get to an amount of arx that allows me to get that nice skin pack, good. If not, well lets just say I won't loose sleep over it.

Combat seems to be the fastest way to earn ARX, just fyi. If you hit some CZs in a system at war, you can earn a couple hundred in an hour or so. Turning in explo data also seems to bring a decent ARX return as well.
Yeah, it's a shame that only a couple of methods actually seem reliable for "earn as you play". I made cap last week before the war I was fighting finished. This week, there was no war to fight, so I ran missions. Had a blast stacking a bunch of smuggling missions and blasting my way through the slot. Even saw a couple of players in the systems I was smuggling to. Stacked a couple of data missions on top.

End of the session: 7 arx. Some days there are decent numbers of base-bombing missions and they'll reward me with low-double-digits.
Meanwhile, if I do a single wartime massacre mission, the 60-80 kills (and the number of CZs you need to do to earn that many) will bag me 150-odd.

Well Fdev must be doing negative reinforcement on me because anytime I log in and look at the ship sitting in the hanger on the login page, I just say to myself. No. I just can't go through this anymore. Then log out and do something else. Lately its been learning stock and precious metal charts. Who would have thought earning real money is more fun than play money.
Sadly its the same for me these days. I tried some exploration again, but somehow I wasn't triggered by any reinforcement.

With the introduction of ARXs it seems that people now play to get ARX.
The new incentive to play is ARX. Before ARX it was materials and before that it was credits.
Maybe this is a wrong perception, it is just based on the complains here in the forum about getting not enough ARX, where people feel that there efforts are not rewarded enough (with ARX).

It seems to be wrong to play for ARX or credits as it cumulates into the well known grind.

But what is the difference to other long running games like EVE, WoW or others (never played them long enough, so I don't know). What do other games different (or equal) to hold their players. Is there more or better playing content? "Deeper" content? "Emerging" content? (more, better, deeper, emerging = not well defined, maybe we get better understing about these qualifiers while discussing)
With the 400 per week cap on ARX, it seems that the amount means something important besides being used for cosmetics. Maybe Arx are used for Fleet carriers in some new way, I dunno, (you can buy as many as you want), But why have a cap on them if not for some other unknown purpose?

Might be two reasons:

1 - commercial - they don't want to give too much away;
2 - health - they don't want to be accused of 'forcing' players to play long stints to achieve high points, or get hooked on them. That would probably happen with some players if they allowed unrestricted ARX.

I think fdev really missed an opportunity with free ARX. Should've simply allowed credits to be traded for ARX, with the same weekly cap. That would've given players something regularly to spend credits on and incentivised playing to earn credits. Also would have been much simpler to implement and would end all the 'i did this but didn't get ARX' chatter.

If people never bought cosmetics in the past, and they have found some reasonable progression in the free arx, why not, let people have fun.

For me it was an easy conclusion.. the weekly amount is so pitiful + the activities i do only earn 5 arx every few hours it was pretty much immediately forgotten.

Was it supposed to motivate me? Or compensate for the overall price increases from arx bundles? Probably not but no and no if it was.

We need a bigger weekly cap than 400 though. even filling up the quota every week, it would take months to buy even a single paint job. Maybe slightly increase the Arx rewards for certain activities too?

For the cheapest paintjobs it takes like at most a week and a day, if you catch it at the weekily refresh around a day.

Probably a combination of the two, as we are looking at around 24000 Arx an Hour if they didnt cap it, at release.

I haven't been grinding for ARX and I've hit the cap every week. I did combat last week, which filled it pretty easily, but this week I've played only a little and I'm over 300 just doing some engineering and a material run out at Dav's.

It's not terribly hard and I only notice if I've hit the cap when I log in. If you're playing around the free ARX, that's a personal choice.
Go exploring for a week without turning your data in!

Hello. Greetings from France.
So please excuse me for my bad English.
I'm currently playing (on a regular PS4) a "space trucker", currently in a T7.
Approx. 1500 ARX == 1$/€. You earn 1 ARX per 2 trade completed or trade missions.
That's not much, but is warmly welcomed.
Please take a look at other games NOT giving you any store money just for playing !
I'm thankful to Elite Dangerous devs for unlocking such a feature in the game, and I hope other games will also go on ...

PS : my only grief against Elite Dangerous : it's an online-only game, and my ISP is terrible ... (I currently live in a farmland area)

I already have most of the cosmetics anyway, and don’t have any problem paying proper money for new ones, so I still play to fly spaceships.

This statement is funny, because some completely free to play games, give out a LOT more premium currency than some p2p products, such as Elite.

Concept of microtransaction for the game you bought will always be pretty wild to me, especially when developers are trying to build money squeezing trap of a system. It's understandable business practice, from financial point of view, but with caps and generation pace (from comparative perspective) it's just looking a bit insulting tbh. That's why I personally would be more content with how it was before, just a shop on their site, not in your face, with very adequate pricing on cosmetics with real world currency.

I guess I'm deep in the contrarian field now...

...because I'm almost not playing at all anymore. And I ignore that ARX counter. Entirely.
(contributing factors though are likely the demonstrated, non-existing Quality Control and the mountain of bugs lol - and over half a year practically devoid of anything worth calling "Content").

Not exactly the breeding ground for "fresh, satisfying and exciting" Gameplay encouraging to log in.

After "yet another unprofessional disaster" Release that's still deep in damage control phase and no sign of fixing hundreds of old bugs, the outlook on the December Update doesn't change anything anymore.

Boggles my mind how a company employing 500 (freshly celebrated with cake) people can end up "performing" like that and have its team leaders & managers still employed.
Must be a very personal thing outweighing all professional criteria.

So instead of the usual "o7" I currently rather give the whole thing a thoroughly deserved "My ARX!" salute :D

After reading this thread and hearing of the difficulties people are having reaching the cap - especially BGS groups that are stuck flying A to B and running missions which are worth almost nothing - I'm tempted to just go out, pick a slew of systems across the bubble where factions are close to each other, and go start some wars. And because I'm super generous and want to help out of the goodness of my heart I should go out and do it in systems that have active player groups so they can share the glorious arx bounty.

Because I'm just that nice a guy.
