Do "purple-haired heroes" scare everyone into Solo?

The PG limit is, apparently, 20,000 members on PC and 1,000 members on consoles.

I have a 2 year old XBox I've turned on all of 4 times, and never played a game on since I bought it.
I have a PS 4 I have turned on in over a year and half, and the last time I did it was to update No Man's Sky.
The thought of trying to play Elite on a console with its limited control options makes my insides want to jump out of my nose.

PC is my only concern, and 20k is no small number of people.

But aren't most large PGs empty these days?

The ones I play on - not at all. I see all kinds of people, at all kinds of times. A large number of them are also on my Friends list. It's pretty rare that I don't have at least a full page of people to talk to at any given time.

I would be interested in joining a PG like Fleetcom or Mobius, not because I'm looking to flee Sopn, but so that I have more opportunity to meet other cool players. How does one go about joining one of these popular PGs on PC?

The info about joining Mobius is here: https://elitepve.com/page/join
NB you have to fill in the web form before requesting the group in-game.
Mobius also has a Facebook group.

Once again...

Those who say there are no G-Force (my new politically correct term for gankers / griefers) at the CG, you are correct. Those who say the CG is overrun with G-Force, you are also correct. Those who say there are no players countering the G-Force, you are correct. Those who are participating in epic battles between various forces, you are also correct.

The cat has purple hair! I was in an epic battle myself, then the game crashed (my entire computer, thanks Frontier), and when I finally got back in, I was all alone, in parallel universe instance jail..... ARRRGHGHGHG!!!

Tonight I turned into a ganker....
Ok ok now you can stop laughing....

My intent was only to disable shields and then let go 😇
I first interdicted a Python... He jumped away with the three rings red, so I failed (of course).
Then I interdicted a Type-6 (poor boy). I took his shields down then I immediately stopped firing and his hull was already at 75% (oh my god what have I done!). Then I let the poor cmdr fly away with my salutations "fly safe cmd"... he didn't reply, I probably have the profanity filter on 😂
Then everyone disappeared from my radar.
I've waited a little bit but nothing... I scared the hell out of those poor guys...

So @Old Duck, to answer to your original question: NO, you don't need a purple hair hero to push everyone to solo, you just need an idiot like me with a basic combat ship (no engineering) with a FSD interdictor (1A) to do the job 👍

Those crazy G5 DD FDLs are kinda OP IMO. Talk about insta-turn-n-burn. Lost a ramming match to two of them, mighty hard to dodge in my sluggish, heavy (for its size) hauler. Please tell me that if the fellow who made the final ram (the one that says "killed you" on contacts) got a bounty for that.
