Do "purple-haired heroes" scare everyone into Solo?

I will never understand why an experienced player should try to hyperdict a lesser ship that’s not carrying any kind of valuable cargo, really. For me it has no sense, there is no challenge, no economical gain, no role play motive behind it.

In my opinion it’s just for ruining other pilot’s day.
There's times I've been working the BGS and if I see a hauler doing repeated trade runs to a station that's not controlled by the faction I want to prop up, I "suggest" they try an alternate trade route. If I'm propping up an anarchy faction, I might not even care what they're hauling.

Yes, yes, a dedicated BGS group will switch to solo and work the BGS there, but if someone normally likes to fly in open and my turf isn't the only option to turn to for whatever they want to do, chasing them off is good enough for me.

That's as reasonable as PvP gets.

Perhaps if all players had garish hair, scars, make-up and looked like a bunch of clowns it may confuse things a little :p
I suppose purple hair is quite scary. No one sees you coming when you look somewhat normal ;)

I understand your motives ( and like that you contact the player before attacking ).

Speaking of cosmetics, who is going to compliment me on my nice paint if I'm stuck in Solo?

MoM, time to add a "compliment" routine to the NPCs :D

Wait, we already got that, just the way around.
I remember an NPC line like "You've scratched my Paint!" ;)

Yeah, random wordless murderboning is something you do in FPSs. Even if my motive is downright silly, when I interdict you I want you to know why you're being interdicted.

Even if it's "Arrr, drop ye throttle, this be the dread reverse pirate screemonster! Turn over ye empty cargo space!"

When the difference in challenge posed by the modes was mentioned - PvP is the only real difference.
Or PvE depending on your pov, probalby a bit of both. But why is that?

Not unsupervised, no. I've read one of his game related books.
Then why make the statement in the first place?

Problem there mate duck hit on.... Ok so Incan accept the risk for the trucker is meant to be more like wild west America..... But where is the risk for the billionaire "PvP" player with a god rolled ship?
If there was some skill required to pick easy targets, it would be fine. But as it stands, it is 'sub optimal'.

No, it's pebcak.

Make an unstoppable killing machine, complain you are bored as its easy. Use the unstoppable killing machine against players who choose not to fight, complain nobody wants to PVP with you.

Min-maxing is like grinding the people who do it never actually seem to enjoy it and think its FDEV's fault they decided to do it.
Well, designed games provide challenge throughout the whole game from start to end of a players progression. In the open world of ED, you cannot find a PvE place, that can really threaten you in a G5 medium ship. Maybe high CZs and Wing Assassination mission targets can make you run. But if you die in those, it is your own fault or choice respectively. In a large ships, you are pretty much invincible in PvE, not so much in PvP (but even there you have the choice to leave before getting blown up).
So no, in a well designed game, this pebcak would not happen (constantly).
Since you are probalby disagreeing with me anywway, maybe you can name me one game, which was praised for becoming easier, the more the player advanced in it, having to artificially limiting himself to have a certain level of challenge?

Since the 1st month after training, I have played in open consistently, I belong to the Mobius group, but havent encountered any players in that mode - I play in open in the off chance of greeting another player - a rare occurrence, usually without a response until they find my greeting an hour or so after, when I'm a couple of hundred light-years away from the original contact. -
IMO< There should be some kind of notification when contacted by another "real" player separate from the constant notices from NPC's. - Player involvement with others should be a priority of this game, instead of an unimproved side issue.

Hull damage let alone death is optional in any ship, thats what shields and jumpdrives are for.

I'm not going to write you a list of games where as you progress it gets easier, since its all of them.

Being almost godlike in late game is very common, if you want a challenge you have to downgrade and add it yourself. Its just as much part of player choice as enjoying a super tough end game ship. What you see as a lack of challenge is just your own self imposed limitiations.

You don’t have to be a PvP ace to be competent.

Glad you got things figured out.

The point I was trying to make, is it’s silly to go to a place where veteran players tend to congregate, and complain when something bad happens.

If you’re visiting Shinrarta, you should probably be prepared for whatever comes next.
My point is I play for versimilitude and a certain playstyle in ED spoils that (for me) having PF ships blocking any station for instance and it going unanswered for by station security is silly but at shinrata it is even worse.
It is like if the security sat and did nothing out side of the White House whilst people randomly shot other folk coming to visit.
It just doesn't make sense.....

This is why for me PG is vital. I do not trust players to "play" their roles properly.
Take the cops and robbers game BF hard-line. That was a total failure if you wanted it to be a plausible criminal Vs police game. Payday2 works far better.
I would love more balance in the PvE game however until that happens I will spec my ships to keep them limited but that does not solve my issue with open

(I did play in open at the start. Code's ramming antics outside of hutton (personal experience) and itchynips (thankfully my mate at the time came across that gem and warned me off)

Then there were the cheaters with the 5:1 god ships..... I just don't want to play against players who think that is acceptable ... Christ I didn't even board flip (I did once after feeling pressured to do it to help a PLayer Group and I nearly quit the game after it, it completely ruined the game for me!.

Remeber this quote, when you see yet another of this "I died within seconds in my new Anaconda for no apparent reason"-threads. I seems like you are willingly missing the point. People do not come prepared (to open), just look at the current CGs.

This is a straight up lie, in case you did not notice. And I did not want you to list all of them, but you seem to have overlooked that part, too.

If you have to downgrade yourself because a game takes challenge away from you on the long term, it is crappy game design.

This is my first CG on PC, woo! I've been "ship watching" at one of the CG stations, and the flow of CMDR trading traffic has been steady. Finally I decided to grab a few tons of grain in my Dolphin to do my part, and on my return to the system I was chased by two very persistent griefers. To my amazement, I escaped two interdiction attempts and also survived an attack in normal space. I love my Dolphin!

After playing cat-n-mouse with the griefers for about 20 minutes, give or take, I decided I wanted to actually sell these goods and get properly "registered" with the CG, so I switched to Solo, landed at the station, sold my goods, and then switched to Open again. Thing is, the station was just as empty in Open as it was in Solo! Ironic, since I was going to ask in local comms how everybody was getting past the griefer blockage. Maybe I got my answer - maybe everyone switched to Solo! Either that or everyone went to bed while was playing with griefers, or perhaps I wasn't allowed back into the original instance I was in...

So I'm asking the question here - does a griefer "blockade" cause the majority of players (the ones trading) to switch to Solo when participating in a CG? While I survived my cat-n-mouse with the griefers, I wasn't able to actually get close enough to the station to safely drop from SC. And let's face it, if I was serious about trade, I would have been there in a bigger ship, not my "let's play with griefers" Dolphin.

The other question I have is, where are all the valiant PvP protectors I keep hearing about but never see? Why do griefers own supercruise with no opposition? Don't go pointing fingers at me, I just started over, and I did my bit for queen and country by distracting those griefers for 20+ minutes, keeping them away from serious traders. Where are all you Elite ShinDez Warriors of Justice? Are you hiding under your beds?

EDIT

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about people switching from Open to Solo FOREVER, but just for a trading CG while griefers are blockading the system.

Some people are happy spending 20 minutes playing the game how others want you to play it and others aren’t! I play PG because I can and I want to. Frontier have added NPC pirates which add some threat (mainly for inexperienced players) but Outfitting a trade ship and engineering it just so it can survive multiple attacks, by heavily engineered ships that are purely built to quickly dispatch another player actually spoils the experience for me.

Not me. I was writing high wake escapology guides in 2015 and escaped gankers yesterday in a sidey with e-rate thrusters.

People entering open without the know how to evade are as daft as the eejits gunning them down and then complaining its easy or they've been blocked. They all need to accept the outcome of their own choices and stop sweating everyone else's.

You seem utterly unfamiliar with any video games, or maybe you are just very bad at them.

I have a variety of ships some are "downgrades" some are effectively indestructible most are somewhere in the middle. I fly the one I think will be the most fun whilst being suited to the task in hand at the time and enjoy the game.

Why would I listen to your terrible advice on entirely self inflicted non-fun ?.

It's been a few years since I've seen one of these. Most people who can't handle getting destroyed already play in Solo/PG.

Almost all RPGs are like that, Deus Ex, The Witcher, Skyrim. Also many strategy games like Total War or the Paradox games. FPS games usually neither get harder nor easier, they just remain shallow.

I agree with that. But your answer shows, you have not being paying attention, what this argument was about and I am not going to repeat it for the third or fourth time.

Yeah, right. lol Was about to say the same about you. Either one of us is severely trolling or does not have clue, what he is talking about.

I did not give any advice, did I?
