ANNOUNCEMENT Community Update (22/10)

Greetings Commanders,
Hi Will.
As you're talking about bug fixes and smaller updates, could you please confirm the following about the fluff / non fluff glanet:
1. Is Raxxla in the current playable version of the game and if so and assuming it is a place, is it visiable? *
2. Is the dark wheel station in the current playable version of the game and is it visitable?*

*:if it is in a permit locked area, the permit is obtainable. If its distant, it is reachable in an obtainable ship.

Just yes or no will do - no needs for hints!

Thanks. :)

I thought the Beyond update served to tidy up the game, prepare for the big update.
In the end we realized that the Beyond update only served to bring more bugs and little content, now FDEV will spend more time fixing bugs and not bringing new content.
Unfortunately, I have to say that I'm disappointed again, it was getting harder and harder to believe the deadlines, meanwhile, we see competitors growing, showing content and news.

I am thinking that it may be time to put the game on the shelf and revisit it in a year or so. The bugs should be fixed by then and we might have new content.

It is easier than you think. I quit the very day when the February announcement was made, and while I was/am toying with the thought of reinstalling the game, I just need a sobering reminder on the forum that I really shouldn't.

Tons of great games out there until FDev figures out what to do with Elite.

Again a promise lost in space by frontier, good job. Many players will stop playing, just fix the bugs and give us the carrier. Keep your promises for once. Been playing for 4 years now and also waiting for a carrier for 4 years. Really disappointed right now. There were always beta before the updates but think you guys where more focused on those stupid arx currency . 👎

Braben said years ago that Raxxla is IN the game, and is reachable by anyone with the ships and modules found in the game from the start. So no engineering needed and no permits needed.

Now rumor was someone actually honked the system it’s in already, but never realized Raxxla was there. Not sure how much truth was in that rumor however.

Just had to remove some naughty words, please keep it family friendly folks.

I wonder how much ARX were driven by their single largest share holder after David Braben? Tencent is big on micro transactions and money coming in all the time.

Both Elite and FO76 have delayed releases. Looks like I'll have some time to play through The Outer Worlds!

I am fine with the delay honest but let's not sugar coat it. Beyond was the year for improvements with limited content added , and we already had the "reprioritising of ice planets and fleet carriers to make sure bugs were ironed out back in 2018.
Imo that card has limited uses before people lose faith. Mind you.... It's not as bad as the helion announcement so there is that..
I just hope the same people laughing at SC delays are not the ones defending EDs continuing reprioritising.
Not really. Beyond was the year to fix placeholders:

  • Trading Overhaul
  • Mining Overhaul
  • Exploration Overhaul
  • BGS Overhaul
  • USS Overhaul
  • Hundreds of QOL improvements
The next year seems to be for bug fixing. Which happens to be exactly what people asked for in their silly petition... ;)

Phew! this thread was 11 pages long when I began to read and I'm finally posting on page 18. (Edit: and page 20 before I'd finished.)

Thanks @Will Flanagan That was a tough post to have to write and you are probably wearing your asbestos underwear at the moment.

I knew as soon as the September Update needed two patches that Carriers would be delayed. You can't pull out all the stops without pausing other work. It's a shame it's for six months, but then only you know the size of your bug list. I've been on the other end of this sort of decision, and it made vast improvements to our code base. But you have to stick to it. Absolutely no new features even if people are screaming for them. No QoL upgrades. Just Bugs. If you run out of bugs before the second drop, then you might consider fixing mis-features. (Stop turning all my planets blue.)

While you are at it though, please do not just pay lip service to QA issues. The betas need to be meaningful and you need modern testing methodologies.

One other thing that would help is an issue ticket system that allowed for feedback. As it is, it is like screaming into the void. And requiring twice the number of confirmations as your other titles is unsupportable. If five reports is enough for Planet Coaster, it's enough for Elite Dangerous.

We had an issue ticket system that both the developers and the customer service people could write on, but the developers could make their contributions private. That way all the documentation is in one place but the customer only sees the politically correct stuff. Customer Support can re-word the developer's post if the customer needs to know something and there can be a conversation, which leads to much easier bug fixing.

Even if you choose not to do that for the game going forward, please consider it for the betas.

David said a lot of things at the start! I'm just after confirmation that people aren't wasting their time following on from the announcement about galnet stories being fluff.
