ANNOUNCEMENT Community Update (22/10)

I do think the game needs multiple balance passes and many bug fixes too. BUT ... i'm sorry but i can't trust you anymore. First mega hype about ice worlds - delayed, then mega hype about fleet carriers - delayed. Not to mention we are at half of the game's lifespan (10 years) and we still can't walk around, build stations (own stuff), trade with other players, or land on atmospheric planets.

So, After 2876 hours played i'm not going to play until the promised content is delivered and i'm not going to buy a single thing from store even if it's in 90% discount.

I'm happy to see QA take a priority, disappointed at the delay for something new to do in game, and that the last year was supposed to be bug and qol work.

This is exactly what I wanted to see. Elite: Dangerous really is a marvel of a game but there is a host of issues that ultimately detract from the experience. There's so many of them that someone's bound to run into some utter or another. I understand that Frontier has its hands full managing multiple IPs but that September update was in an exceptionally shoddy state. Delaying the Fleet Carriers to focus on improving the game first actually does give me some confidence for when it's finally released, because it won't just be a can of worms on top of fifty other cans of worms.

Hats off and o7 to you for realizing this.

Never been too interested in FCs, so that's a win in my book. On the other hand, an even better outcome would have been for FCs to get the axe and for the manpower used there to be retasked on the 2020 expansion as I haven't noticed many bugs lately anyway.

Now how about making beta testing as fun and worthwhile for us as possible?

I understand that bug fixing is a headache and I wish the Frontier Coders much love and success. How can we as a community make bug fixing less onerous?

How about giving all of us an uncapped number of ARX per hour for playing on the beta servers?

The squadron Leaderboards should have a new Category... Beta Servers.

Prizes for:
1. Most bugs found
2. Most server crashes
3. Tiniest bug
4. Most annoying bug
5. Most amusing bug
6. Bug of the week

We like breaking stuff!
We help you. You help us.

xoxo

I would agree if it wasn't heavily leaning towards space legs.

Well, this is as close to admitting to a foulup as we ever gonna get from a corporate entity. I am ok with this. Throw some more money at the problems, fix stuff, I want to play your game. It will be good for your bottom line in the long run. If Hello Games could effectively unfoul its game with spectacular results, so can you.

Communtiy asks for more effort to 'fix' things.
Where does said communtiy think that effort will come from out of a full dev schedule?
I am fine with the delay honest but let's not sugar coat it. Beyond was the year for improvements with limited content added , and we already had the "reprioritising of ice planets and fleet carriers to make sure bugs were ironed out back in 2018.
Imo that card has limited uses before people lose faith. Mind you.... It's not as bad as the helion announcement so there is that..
I just hope the same people laughing at SC delays are not the ones defending EDs continuing reprioritising.

Thanks for the heads-up Frontier! (y)

It's great to read, that you take constructive concerns seriously. Never mind about the Fleet-Carriers. Even the U.S. have troubles with their new high-end Carrier and they are YEARS behind schedule.

Me personally, I'm looking forward what's new to come.

Keep up the great (and hard) work for us!

🍺

I might be a bit cynical ... but this has all the marks of a much more mature and sensible reaction to Yamiks open letter and all that went along with that ... I'm glad the initial apparently rather childish response has been thought better of ... and having been playing ED since the Kickstarter Betas ... I remain ever hopeful!

This was exactly supposed they were going to do this year ...

they weren't going to release big updates exactly by that... sometimes it is very difficult to understand the community

In every other dimension I'd say "ugh". But now, in the current situation, this is the correct response and a proper reaction to the petition.

As I have stated in a previous post somewhere in these forums: "I'd rather have the content delayed and bugs fixed than another content update that introduces and revives even more bugs."

This is exactly what I have been hoping for and for now my hope is restore to the minimum level for me to stil lcare. I'll continue my break until the beta, though. The game is below my personal expectation threshold.

Whilst I do agree that combat logging is not a bug, introducing anti-cheat mechanisms is a common expectation the userbase places on the developers in online games.

Literally the easiest way to do it would be the following:
Connection loss for whatever reason while in combat with another player (or even an NPC so Morbad's CMDR can be satisfied as well :) ) = pretty explosion rendered for the CMDR who remained in the instance, pretty rebuy screen displayed for the other player as soon as they come online the next time.

In-game lore-friendly explanation = "critical malfunction" thanks to Murphy's Law.

EZ

Good info.
Since the announcement of Fleet Carriers I felt like I needed to focus on credit grinding, this new timeline allows me to enjoy the game more.
