ANNOUNCEMENT Community Update (22/10)

It was nice to see that a bug I reported last year - scratch that, way over a year ago - was finally fixed with the most recent update - weapons that are "fixed" wiggled like they were gimballed... (Huge Plasma Accelerator was one - and by wiggle, not the crosshairs, but the actual physical mounting of the weapon on the hard-point).

Honestly, probably the wisest decision you could make to iron everything out now before your take your game to the next level - I'm guessing you're going to shove a load of the new expansion code in with the fleet carriers, too, as that would make sense.

There is no doubt that, in addition to the new features, the September Update introduced a number of issues and bugs which caused a lot of frustration. We are really sorry for these issues. We realise that some of the issues had an impact on your ability to enjoy Elite Dangerous. The team have been working hard to address the most critical issues and have already released a series of patches and updates to bring those fixes in as quickly as possible.
Of course these bugs caused a lot of frustration! One of my posts was even flagged as flaming even though it wasn't saying anything rude or harsh (especially when compared to some of the comments in this thread).
All I was asking in said post was for FDev to test all their patches thoroughly.

It's all very well and thanks (I guess?) but I've heard this all before. The whole Beyond series of updates was supposed to be improving the player experience and frankly it could have been much much better.
I remain sceptical until I see some of the long overdue bugs fixed.

Perhaps as an apology to the devoted community for the mistakes made by Frontier Developments Management we should be gifted the late 2020 big update for emotional damage 😉

I'm sorry if this is out of line, but I can't sit back and watch people who complain about bugs then throw excrement at Frontier for giving them exactly what they asked for.
Who's complaining? I'm not complaining. The only people I see complaining are the, "There are no bugs in this game!" crowd. Me, I'm singing the hallelujah song!

I've seen a few. More than I'd care to.
My post isn't directed at people like you who are following through with their train of thought. You're he honest ones.

I prefer the old bugs to be fixed, over get the new carriers. In my opinion, it's a lot more useful!. Also, I didn't expect new features in the game until end 2020, since long time ago, because I was in the Axis of Evil of critics XD, so I don't feel dissappointed.

It's nice to see a lot of the community is feeling positive about the announcement. I can of course understand the frustrations but for me the fact that FD are listening to the community should be a positive for everyone.

Thanks for keeping it civil folks... And feel free to blame me if it makes you feel better...

Hello Frontier, I have a question for you.
The PS5 will be launched at the end of 2020. Will there be Elite portability? and the new update will only come out for the new generation of consoles? And will all my progress be transferred, or will I have to start over again? I just want to know if the game will have a future for console players or not. With regard to the postponement of the Fleet Carriers, this is an understandable but unfair position. We've heard these bug fix arguments before and nothing has changed. Elite is a game already with a few years no one would mind buying a new season a year as long as we regularly had new content. With so much game coming out annually, these constant delays will eventually kill this great game. Thank You.

Thanks for the update @Will Flanagan ; it can't have been an easy decision to make, but I think it is undoubtedly the correct one, and is a road-map that can bring rigour and quality into the code, at the same time as sweeping up issues that have been reported.

Far better to release Fleet Carriers against the background of a well-tested and solid game that has taken into account the reports of the community in the issue tracker, that have had the appearance of being neglected of late. (Maybe you could release Ice Planets at the same time, eh? :) )

I've been increasingly disillusioned with the development releases over the last while, and wasn't looking forward to the December update at all in the light of what has been happening on updates in the past.

Bravely done, and a commendable change of direction, I'm impressed.

Hang on, you told us we couldn't blame you and had to blame some guy named Coutts 🤔

I think this is a good decision. I have no idea if I even want to be involved with fleet carriers, never seen one. But I know there are many game features currently that would draw more player activity if they were made better functioning.
