I remember an interview in The One (Amiga) with David Braben that I may have taken rather too much at his word about being able to do absolutely everything (being of a tender age, just able to vote etc) that the reality of that game fell rather short, so much as I dig the chap and enjoy his excited handwaving, I take him with a pinch of salt nowadays. (Also dug up this one, and this (p44,45) about ED's grandfather's bugs...). I'm sure he wants to do all those things, but they may continue to elude his grasp.

Much fewer players than those will come back, those that stay and wait, and those new players that will join.
Do people actually believe this story about suddenly deciding to listen to the community and cancelling the announced update to fix bugs? The bugs, and the complaints, have been around for years, but FD showed no interest before. More likely in my view that they're having problems, and this is a face saving tactic.

Me too. I still have the complete original game and computer. It still works perfectly, as does the CRT monitor and other peripherals. I still use it. Great little machine that.
I didn't say that waiting 18 months for content was great. Obviously it sucks. I said that having waited 30 years for Elite Dangerous, and with significant content dependably planned over 10 years, waiting 18 months is no time at all by comparison.
In those quarter-century-old articles DB (as he was then) is talking about Frontier Elite II. Now I admit I played FE2 and its sequel Frontier First Encounters too back in the '90s, and still have the original games in fact - they even still work on my PC with DOSBox - so actually I only waited more like 20 years for ED since FFE. But you're talking 16-bit computers and x86 CPUs at best to implement the game with then. And then DB doesn't promise Fleet Carriers or Space Legs in those old articles. And then FE2 and FFE did have atmospheric landings fitted as standard even so. You could sell the Atmospheric Shielding for extra starting dough.

Which is exactly what FD has done for years... one of many example : Beyond was supposed to be THE update to fix bugs.

Imo - and it is only my opinion - ED has been relegated as a result of FD's commitment to dinos and coasters.
Whilst I can appreciate the corporate attraction, especially with regards to Ten Cent and their passion for micro-transactions, I do feel that those of us who have devoted several hundreds or thousands of play-hours to ED are entitled - yes, I did say entitled - to expect FD to stand by their promises to introduce new content: something that they have yet again failed to do.
As a VR player, I can honestly say that ED is still the best experience. In terms of value for money, ED has been the gift that went on giving.
However, FD should not promise new content and then jump ship when we are expecting delivery on those promises.
I'll return periodically to ED to see if the new features are ever introduced but until then, I shall play something else.

I am the first to criticize FD but on this one, they own us nothing. You paid already for it and your F***. that is all.
Like me, I am a LEP and i don't think they are entitled to anything.

I already stated that in terms of value for money, ED has over-delivered. I am simply making the point that if FD make a promise of new content by a certain date, they should deliver on that promise.
Perhaps you didn't read my post correctly.
I still don't think Frontier purposefully posts lies. That would cause serious damage to them as public company if word got out. No, I just think they've been grossly incompetent, which in my book is the lesser of the two evils.
So much houseplants in that one picture. Love that 80's interior design. I'd be so hyped if Braben said something along the lines of making Elite Elite again this Christmas (maybe with houseplants). Dangerous galaxy and spaceships and alien mysteries. I'd probably buy one of those cockpit plants if I wasn't currently on a little break and still not quite over 3.3/Beyond update.
It took me 9 months away from the game to get over 3.4/Beyond FSS. In the end I came back to the game, got used to it, and it works well for me now.
What’s funny is they’ve actually committed to even more work.. instead of focusing on fleet carriers which aren’t working they’re also committing to bug fixes.. unless all this marketing fluff is just one guy during overtime fixing trivial cosmetic issues (finally) how are they going to do even more without pulling people off space legs?

I'll take that with a pinch of salt lol. I don't think you guys are doing anything. I'll probably be able to holiday on the moon before the next update is ready...
