Ahhh - but - how many of those last-gen games have brought us helmet flips, sandwurmies, fully simulated alien trade empires and 10,000 player instances?

Never said nobody crashes. I used to crash more between 3.3 and 3.6 but it hasn't happened to me for a while. Might catch some with 3.8 LIVE. SOCS is changing a few things under the hood. And you can't deny that it is an Alpha. That doesn't mean we can't talk about other games too. SC has a lot to learn from Elite exploration for example. Why does it always have to be negative?

Elite could learn from Atmo planets in SC too. I don't understand this weird release first then we talk? Games are very connected. They also learn a lot from each other.

Truer words haven't been spoken. Oh wow that is some dedication on the IC reports there bud. Thanks for the contributions. Yea people see new shiny and look past the oh this is a stress test and stability is crap btw post. :ROFLMAO:

Most impressive thing about that for me: Someone actually did the video from in-cockpit!" It sure does look pretty. Has anyone been able to dogfight at that kind of terrain level? Is it all Topgun style missile lock warnings and trying to barrel roll your way to victory?

I'll take issue with the character visual quality...not even going near the rest since you seem to be on a roll of commonly and ad nauseum repeated tropes, misnomers and misconceptions there...

I cannot speak about your Expanse taste, but, your taste in Armor is nice. :)
very similar to How I set my guy up.

Right...since everyone seems to be a crap mood and the thread is rapidly degenerating into the old 'SC is crap because' arguments...I'm off to go play some more RDR2.

Have fun ;)

Well the shilling and "SC is the bestest game evar" comments have been a bit over the top as well which triggered all this in the first place. And when rational arguments and facts are brought up that dont benefit SCs case the retreat is like always "it looks awesome so meh". Professional opinion also only is considered or accepted when it praises or describes SC in good tones. professional negative opinion is always disregarded as "hit pieces".

Star Citizen looks good.

It doest look "better" then any other games. In fact, many other games look equal or even better then SC. We always start with a single hyped up observation (not you, you didnt do it btw) and as soon as that is corrected the age old goalpost moving game begins. Okay its not "as good" but the scope...oh my...so awesome...its laughable. Grasping straws really. I was surprised that you decided to participate at all in this. But you made the mistake to pick up a defense that was never the question. People here are quite willing to admit that SC looks good.

As always, the discussion about Star Citizen being a good game or not hungs on its visual qualities. I cannot understand how somebody who isnt 10 years old or younger could make that mistake but obviously a lot of SC fans do it. Every game that does marketing videos shows breathtaking and awesome vistas, which usually never make it into the life game either. SCs "scope" is irrelevant in all this because it doesnt have that scope itself at this point. neither does it have "true" seamless transitions or "true" procgen...fans using the term "true" in order to suggest that CIG is kind of a pioneer in the technical development. Simply because they got whoosed by visuals.....

wow hey flyes alone on an planet Surface. I‘m not impressed.

Not quite accurate since the PU builds are generally very stable..even comparitively so with other games/titles.

I beg to differ from my own experience, from trying out the free fly alone (which most other devs would try to be as stable as possible). I am glad you have no issues with stability, but there's enough proofs around for the opposite, even talking about "stable" PU alone.

Hey, remember playing the really good The Order 1886 with lots of fidelity and appreciating it for 10th time over, because it just looked so good? Yeah?

Yeah, me neither. It's like fidelity isn't the main game component, crazy, huh?
And anyway, I nominate Sayonara Wild Hearts for the best-looking game of 2019. :p

Less detail and on a small 8km2 map. Death Stranding is still the closest but still not planet scale. That is why just like Mole said. SC is another beast. It's first person level of detail on a planet scale.

How much of the planet(s) surface is currently playable or otherwise interactive? I mean it's reasonably pretty but not above any of the newer Frosbite games (BF, Battlefront, etc), and will have to have a huge number of repeated assets even if they can be randomized to some extent.

ED and NMS both have a vast number of playable planetary scale first person (or first SRV) maps. Not as pretty, maybe, but they actually exist and are playable - not getting into whether the associated gameplay is good/bad as that's subjective!

That shot is not from 3. Also SC is more on the DS level of visuals imo.

Interesting, because that's taken from the SC thread where someone tried to pass that image off as being from 4, but someone pointed out it was from 3. As i understand, it was accepted as a mistake.

Also, what is DS levels of visuals? Derek Smart levels of visuals?! Come come, no need to be so critical! :p

Has anyone seen the goalposts? They seem to have been moved.

I wouldn't worry about it. They'll be ending this rotation of their orbit in just a few hours. I mean, if it very quickly passes over its starting point, surely that counts as not actually having moved at all?

Tho I can respect the amount of effort and time that went into the rip-off, its pretty impressive...

yes i respect this too. But on the other hand it is like CI marketing only smoke and mirrors. If you play the tech demo it feels nothing like in the rip off video. The other thing is other games have also nice graphics. And working mechanics.

I would be interested in some visuals to compare. What narrative? Look below that is Battlefield on top vs Star Citizen

Why are you comparing a screenshot from 8 year old game Battlefield 3 (launched in 2011; the map is Alborz Mountains) to the no-revised-launch-date-yet Star Citizen?

Seems disingenuous: "look this in-development game has better graphics than one from 8 years ago!".

Comparing graphics and world-tech between games that spanned multiple console generations will regularly show advantages to the later games.
