Are the ice planets all so flat? I struggled to see any suspension movement for the first 30 seconds or so of that vid. It looks like a glass billiard table with a few of those wooden mushrooms dotted about for obstacles?
That was a frozen lake. Also what do you mean? Go to 1:50, seems there's plenty of movement.

Also in that very video he turns around a couple times and shows off area beyond the lake.

Yeah that was your initial position. You then sensibly accepted that there are a few key aspects which make SC worse. Key amongst them being the perpetual dream monetising.

It’s a shame to see you return to this overly-reductionist parity stance of ‘they all made undelivered promises’, which cuts out so much pertinent detail.

Details such as... today’s new $35,000 Legatus pack...

:D

LEP marketing says otherwise man. (£35 is a snip though right ;). £130 in 2015 could be seen as more snippy though...). Atmos are hedged at but Legs are writ large.

Still doesn’t even touch the sides of CIG’s lucky dip barrel of pre-sales though ;). And that’d be the point in this thread. (We can argue about it some time in DD if you like ;))

Merry Xmas to SC addicts of all stripes :). Let us all marvel at whatever they do in 2020 :D

Newsletter 32 is not part of the LEP product description (unlike SC stretch goals for example). Nor it was a guarantee in any respect of anything I am afraid. In fact it also very explicitly reminds readers of that lack of guarantee. News letter 32 is just a continuation of the description of the intentions about upcoming content initiated at kickstarter, and the obvious implication that IF those happen LEP owners will not have to pay for them, that is all. But so far neither legs nor atmospheres have been sold or paid for at all, LEP or otherwise (you will notice that Horizons was very explicitely included in the 2015 LEP product description unlike legs or atmospheres). That difference is crucial in this discussion as it means there is no commercial or contractual commitment at all, unlike the SC case. And yes, this particular discussion is more appropriate for DD.

Ho ho no...

Did you expand the quote box in that post? I’ve included various sources there, including direct references to Legs gameplay etc on the store page at the LEP point of sale. The many many times they spoke in absolutes about those expansions in promotional material (all linking to the sales page in the case of the Newsletters) are just the cherries on the top.

By any reasonable measure ED has pre-sold those broad aspects. If you let them off that particular hook you’d have to let SC off the many hundreds which festoon them. They too have only marketed and sold intentions, as their ToS now make clear...

It’s just that CIG have continually sold and marketed an ever-expanding litany of intentions ;)

Etc etc etc...

I’m sure the more recent $1,650 pocket carrier, comparable $2000 mobile market place, and $725 mine layer will be a cinch to add though, and won’t make the $850 base-laying ship, for example, any more cast adrift in the mists of time than it already is. Or any more curiously juxtaposed with the land sales that came after it. It will probably pop up just after the $350 modular science ship. Or after the next unique concept sale. Whichever comes first... ;)

Indeed I did. Was very familiar with those anyways, but thanks. Included in your quotes and newsletter you will also find the statements about no guarantees or commercial commitments, only intentions, that follows in the same narrative as in the Kickstarter:

... access to all these features and updates for as long as we create them at no further cost...
... if we are as successful as we hope to be...
Etc

As mentioned Newsletter 29 or 32 are not part of the LEP product description anyways, and for good reason given the lack of commitment or guarantee.

You find these same lack of guarantees caveats in the 2014 store example:
We intend to continue expanding the game both with new content and new features...

Only Horizons has been an explicit and definite commitment in a LEP product description, and that was when it was sold.

I can understand that you may consider all these irrelevant from an ED fan point of view, but I think they are substantially different especially in terms of contractual and commercial commitments when compared to SC monetization of its promises.

You say that like the $90 ship is cheap, its actually priced way above AAA full game releases. Star Citizen just boggles my mind.

shouldn't you be off somewhere telling people to block things they dont like in a baby brain space game?

When that's the best comeback you have, it's better to just not write anything. Espcially when you're trying to produce a comeback to a factually accurate point.

Edit: LOL and I see full echo chamber mode has now been deployed. Uncomfortable truths and all that eh?

He's just miffed because for a second I made him see the emperor wasn't wearing any clothes.

lol, im all about the factually accurate comebacks!

i'm doing my best coach!

Not actually true since a lot of the SC gameplay (of which there is too little) is linked to specific ships, so there are many paywalls if you look closer. Rentals are a very recent addition, so for a very long time, you were stuck with what you bought.

ED do 'cosmetic' micro transactions, there's the difference. I've had ED since not long after initial release, never once have I felt the need nor been funneled into buying anything other than Horizons.
No since you can also get those ships with in game money and plan is to remove ship buying on release. So there is no paywall.

So you can see the con,you just want the game so badly you're prepared to let other people continue to get fleeced.
yes I want the game so badly that I literally forgot about it for 5-6 years and will do so again and check back in 2-3 years I just can't wait for it ooo give me the game!!!!

Yeah, he's got a soft spot of exploration as he mentions, its been a big part of his ED videos as well. As he says, he loves just flying over planets taking in the view.

LOL, at 4:49 he says "It was protected by goons in spaceships".... apparently not referring to the denzins of SA but NPCs.

Funny how when he gets onto actual "gameplay" he encounters nothing but problems.

I feel he isn't taking CIG's history into consideration when he says "things can only get better", or else just being overly optimistic.

He does bring up the snail pace of development but says its the subject for another video.

Still, overall, pretty standard OA fare. Positive where he can be while trying to remain objective.

Must say, its nice to see the planetary terrain, the Tier 0 planetary tech is slowly catching up with modern games.
Ohh damn what type of modern games would love to try out other space games with actual modern planet tech.
