I'm bored with this game. What to do?

Whatever you do, do NOT attempt to manipulate the BGS.

It will take over your life, and requires far too much thought.

I spent almost my entire stay in Colonia doing just that. Frustrating, focussed, absorbing, and bloody hard work to boot.

I can't think of any activity that makes you feel more connected to the 'reality' of the game than this. It has its problems it's true, but it will probably be my endgame thing once I've 'done everything else', and I highly recommend it if you are in any way a 'thoughtful' kind of player
Thanks , not knowing what BGS was I watched a basic explanation on U tube and it clarified Im already involved without any idea what it means as Im right at the begining looking for good missions and watching myself become Friendly/Allied with various factions quiet quickly , from my limited perspective it just means more dosh/risk? I seem to have become tight with The Noblemen of LHS 475 lately but have no idea what this means going forward ?

What is this "hooning" I've heard speak of in this thread?

Flying low, fast and reckless in tight canyons, surface bases, inside installations or stations. Viper mk3, Eagle mk2, Adder or Sideys recommended. Enhanced performance thrusters & lightweight mods highly recommended. Rebuys will be had. Plenty of rebuys.
Check out Sanderling, WhotheF, Eagle131 and myself on the youtube thingie for some footage of this sort of behavior ;)

I have about 500 hours since December. Had lots of fun but now I'm bored.

I have the ships I want. Anaconda and Corvette. The grind to get Imperial Cutter is not worth it.

No need to mine anymore, I've got enough credits.

Combat is.......meh.

Exploration would be fun if there was something to do when you get there. Driving around on a barren planet gets old after 30minutes.

So am I missing something? What else is there to do?

im sure its already been mentioned, but 7 hours a day since December .... Jesus Christ, get out the house for some fresh air!

Have you tried flying most of the small/medium ships or did you just use the more popular ones as stepping stones on your quest towards the Anaconda and Corvette? There are so many fun ships to fly that often get overlooked. Buy some and engineer them towards special tasks. Did you ever boost through canyons in an iEagle or Viper III at 932m/s?
This is also good advice. at one point I went back and tried ships that I hadn't used previously. the viper for is now one of my favorites that I love using for a smaller missions or easier assassination missions. Same with the dolphin at one point in time I purchased one just to use for transporting people out of a burning station in Gleise 57 I think it was. Anyways, made about 10 runs and cleared out a whole bunch of people. that was personally rewarding just cuz for some reason I felt like I was actually doing good. Also the burning station was really fun to fly into and dock.

Did you know there's giant hearts wrapped in organic barbed wire and big floating brain looking things out there in the galaxy somewhere? Out of 400 billion systems there has to be something you haven't done yet

Jesus actually spent a lot of time outdoors. The sermon on the mount, the feeding of the 5000, lots of time fishing, etc. Now the OP, he might want to fishing for a bit.
Even spending 40 days & nights in the wilderness... Some suggested it was the purification ritual mentioned in "The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage"

Just some trivia :)

Do what I did. Walk away for awhile, play other games or do RL hobbies. I stopped playing Elite in 2016, and In the last 3 years I've learned how to roast my own coffee from green beans, build rifles, and mountain bike. Came back to Elite just before Christmas and everything was new - planetary landings, engineers, exploration tools, etc. Lots of fun, and I've played almost daily for the last 2 months. Getting bored again now and really want to learn how to distill whiskey, so it looks like another Elite hiatus is imminent. Wonder what Fdev can cook up by 2022?

Exactly, it gets old after 10 minutes only actually :ROFLMAO:

You must be on the wrong planet. Or, I suppose it is remotely possible that you don't like driving? :)

I find the SRV to be more fun than flying spaceships most of the time. Of course, there is only very limited fun to be had on flat terrain, but I haven't found a planet yet that hasn't had some proper SRV challenges. Climbing mountains is always fun. Ravine running also. Ravine jumping. I could go on, but I'm sure I don't need to. :p

...the Cutter is the only ship with a GJD (Galaxy Jump Drive) which enables it to jump to other Galaxies... I'm currently in the Andromeda Galaxy fighting for the Renegade Thargoid Variants and building a larger more secure underground base.

and really want to learn how to distill whiskey,

Before I stopped drinking (not by choice, my body simply reacts badly to alcohol these days) I brewed my own beer and was also interested in learning how to distill spirits. What I discovered is that in the UK (and many other countries) you need a licence to do so. In the UK, you are exceedingly unlikely to be able to obtain one except as a business. The reason for this is that if you screw up your spirits, you could easily blind or even kill people... Just a word of warning. :)

When I am bored with some game I play some other game. Just bought Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 GOTY editions from sale and jumping between them. ED will be on background for a while.

Good advice...I'm learning from an experienced distiller who mentioned the same thing. Here in the US it's also illegal, but the enforcement is incredibly lax as long as you don't sell it, which I have no interest in doing. I like to learn some of the things about all of the things, and I approach Elite the same way. Hungry for knowledge and easily bored, I guess.

Is this one of those "helping your uncle, Jack, off a horse " kinda things? Me and Jack aren't speaking at the minute, its a difficult subject.

I use Elite Dangerous (Horizons) as another tool in my toolbox-of-life, another vehicle if you like....when I want a breath of fresh air, to blow out the cobwebs; I crank up one of my motorcycles for a blast, when I want to take the family out on a jaunt; I crank up the car, when knackered (or otherwise) I crank up the bed and curl up with wifey...when I want to chill; I crank up ED(H).... but then again it offers more than a chill-zone.... there is so many more facets to it... from pew pew to BGS to exploration etc etc... as an item in the toolbox-of-life... ED is up with the best.... but not overdone... used as needed, when you're in the mood.....there's more to life! o7

500hrs in six weeks? Wow! Just wow. 83hrs a week, averaging over eleven hours a day, 7 days a week, at the helm of your spaceship? Seriously?

Even giving the 4 weeks of December making it ten weeks, its still fifty hours a week, 7hrs a day - every day - on a game, that cannot be good for you. Take a break, when you come back to Elite, have a look at my "bucket list", and have a look at the in game "Codex", there are some stunning vistas out there, and now since my days of wondering around, they have added lagrange clouds and a lot of interesting things to see there. I've not seen them all myself yet, but it is something I'm looking forward to doing.

I just remembered you said "Combat is meh" - if you want better more engaging combat, look into PvP and Anti Xeno combat. I've been elite for three years now, but I'm working on my SLF pilots rank in AXCZ's and while my loadout is focussed on scouts rather than interceptors, now my NPC is getting good, I tell them to go and engage at will and I have fun dancing with and flacking the Thargon Swarm, and generally dancing with and blindly shooting AX multicannons at the interceptor. I'm almost certainly gonna head back to the bubble grab soem more appropriate guns like guardian gauss rifles and take a pop at an interceptor.

PvP - while a new challenge combat wise, I find the engagements go on for too long. In a one on one PvP, after eight to ten minutes of both sides bullet sponging and shield cell banking, I get to the stage I'm like "fork it, I'm bored now". As a result I don't do a lot of PvP, but the wing fights are more dynamic.
