Griefers make open impossible, and how easy the solution is.

Urfin was talking about the bad design of open. I do think it's bad design because of not distinguishing player archetypes, but I was just commenting about why someone might not like the open experience rather than do fundamental game design critique.
Well then I have nothing else to say :) I mean, this game has the most options in history of online games as to how people chose to interact pretty much. It can be competitive, it can be cooperative, it can be pretty much a single player game. It's absurd how generous the choices are. I don't understand why people still complain.

There could be 100 modes offering varying levels of risk from zero to 100% and there would still be complaints about something 🤷‍♂️

If you enjoy it as it is you don't really need to understand what someone else doesn't like about it. Or argue about it.

I could turn it around and say you don't need to understand why people love it, and argue why it should change.
Hilariously enough, according to developers majority of people do play in Open... If it's so bad and desperate, what gives?

I don't really care. But you said you don't understand the mentality, so I thought you might like an insight.

That Dev comment was open to interpretation solely because no actual figures were given, had it been said that open was more popular than both other modes combined, there would be no debate :)

Still, nothing wrong with open - as a mode :)

I just can't help but think how much easier it would be if devs simply stuck to having one mode, and one only. And it doesn't even matter if it was open, solo, coop. Whatever. Hey players, this is how this game works. There would be only one type of complains, instead of what we have now :)

You'd rather have a game where people complained because there was a problem they can't avoid instead of having a game where people complain about problems they can avoid if they want to?

Between a rock and a hard place there...
The modes actually do work really well, it is the perception of players where the issue lies, but we all know that, deep in our icy-cold murderhobo hearts :devilish:

They have been upfront about the modes and it IS just how the game works. Any irritation about the modes is due to conflicting player expectations.

I'm entertaining myself with all kinds of absurd thoughts :)

At least we would all be complaining in unison. Single seriously flawed mode would unite us all, instead of 3 slightly flawed modes that plant seeds of discord :)

It'd be an awful mess. If I am forced to do stupid mat farming in an SRV to get my engineering done, I definitely don't want anyone else goofing around in their SRV on the same spot.

Fair enough. At least I could fly my G5 murderboat in peace after I finished the mat grind.
I was just trying to imagine if developers haven't decided to come up with this rather convoluted game mode system. What if game was solo only from beginning. With shared BGS, but maybe proper care would be given to some mechanics that allow players to manipulate BGS competitively, without the need to kill each other. Or, game could be open only. And then they would have no choice but develop a robust and functional crime system. Instead we have 3 modes, and players from each one want to pull the blanket on their side.
Would it be better, or worse. I don't know. Just an idea.

... and we all come full-circle :)

"Now let me get this straight..."

Open (my favourite place) is very sociable, sometime waaaayyy too much so :devilish: but a little caution around some locations is not to be sniffed at!
PG is a place where we play with friends when we wish to 'git gud' at something or just sit by the camp-fire exchanging bawdy tales, most of which are outtright fabrications...
Solo is the game's 'Locked-in Syndrome' where no-one can reach you and the NPC's aren't that good at meaningful conversation..

Why do we continually argue the toss over them? 🤒
