Griefers make open impossible, and how easy the solution is.

Frontier: Get rid of Solo and PG Modes completely. Those two modes take up two thirds of Frontier's server resources and could be done with Open only.

1) Open, "block all" (Like Solo Mode)
2) Open, "block anyone you like" (Like PG, without griefers and gankers)
3) Open, "block everyone but friends" (Like PG, with just friends)
FYI, that's actually how the servers on Frontier are set up. Mode changes are only affecting who you instance with. You may still be on the same server as someone in Open, even if you are in Solo. There are no dedicated servers to each mode, just the servers changing instancing protocols depending on your login choice.
System chat across modes anyone? (Not sure which player asked for that tbh)

It's back. Now lets feed the trolls.

Play solo or pg, unless you sit in something like a max engineered fdl with gold armor and can afford to lose it.
And that's where you wrong, the same way the people who grind their Annaconda, Corvette or Cutter are. Big or hyper engineered ship /= skill.
You will get exploded in either by somebody in a "lesser" ship if you stay around to fight as the skill difference in this game is huge. No god-tier ship will save you from giting gud.

Yes, a score (Pilots Federation Reputation?) that is increased as you illegally destroy other ships (CMDRs & NPCs) would be the way forwards. And as that score goes up, more and more stations and entire systems deny you access, and the ATR turn up quicker and quicker. And that score (PFR) only dimishes slowly over weeks...

Do you even play the game? That's already in the game, sort of.
Notoriety = score
bounty rate is determent by notoriety level and ship difference. It's easy to get a 5mil bounty for an Eagle. Super easy to get 100mil bounty in 20min.
Once you start killing in a system you rep with the controlling faction goes down, once hostile you can't land anymore at controlled stations. Again super easy to do in 20min cop killing.
ATR has the same problem as normal security forces in that it's easy to beat the interdiction game and the time until they drop into the instance is enough to kill the average CMDR.

But you know what beats all the above mechanics, being pledged to a superpower. Therefore if you want to reduce the risk of an hostile encounter don't pledge to a superpower.

39 pages of discussion and many other similar threads going back some four years, ranging from carebear to dangerous, open to solo and private groups, penalties and sanctions. and all have positive and negative aspects, with none being implemented.

Think about this for one moment, seriously, think about it......

We now have ONE MODE, with "blocks".

Frontier could eliminate the server resources dedicated to those instances and effects on the BGS and Power Play. You now have the BGS being effected by just one mode, regardless of who is being blocked from "your instance".

Anyone notice that Solo also has a block mode or the ability to block someone in Solo. Why is this there. Really, block someone in solo? Thats just a waste of code and server resource. So, my suggestion addresses the same issues as many have requested, but has the benefit of saving Frontier the most valuable resource they have, server resources and maintenance while allowing only one mode of play for the BGS and Power Play.

I believe that what you proposing is how the game actually works. There are no 3 separate networks, how else can the system chat work. It's just with the click on the mode the game adjusts your blocklist.

Solo = "block all"
PG = "block everyone but friends"
Open = "block anyone you like"

Edit: ninja'd by mod

Open = "block anyone you like"

All I can say is that it gets better as your ships get bigger. Very rarely bothered when cruising in the AC as a bigger ship must seem more threatening than a sidewinder or asp.

It really breaks down to that the ability to flip modes is effectively a invincible and full stealth ability for Open. And thats just not balanced. Nobody ever needs to be in open when he is not at an advantage. So in that other space game, some dude ganks my ship. But then, he can't just vanish. He needs to pay for expenses, needs to have assets I can attack. So eventually I bring friends, pay some mercs, have 2 alt accounts in his corp and one day when he is unsuspecting mining in his wormhole, a full fleet of stealth bombers decloaks and his corp gets awoxed and at the end he got nothing left because he ed off the wrong guy by blowing up his howler 2 years ago. Thats what I call consequence. In Elite, dude is farming in solo, outfitting in solo, flying to the target system in solo. Boardflip - hurr durr Im ze invincibul elite-cutter - blows up some unsuspecting dude - boardflips away to farm more in solo. Thats whats killing open.

PS: and I'm fully aware the discussion is moot, because it's never gonna change. But this game could have been so much more without giving anything up or taking anyones ability to play solo or pg away. It's perfectly fine people opt-out of open. But then stay in your solo world and dont bring your fake-elite stuff to open in order to mess with my game.
