Is there any way to map control of the Galaxy and system map navigation and selection to the joystick controls? What are people generally doing with their set ups to use these maps?
Since the latest update the game stutters really badly for me, it looks like the game is loosing tracking and constantly flickers to the paler colouring and back. V4.00 seemed fine and I was impressed with how smooth the game play in stations was. V4.04 - completely unplayable for me, screen constantly juttering in stations and even space.
Anyone noticed this or have a work around?
Thanks Rob! I ran MSI Afterburner with my setup and one of my cards was not being used at all. SLI does not seem to be implemented (as standard) in Beta 2 after all.
Some googling led me to forcing AFR 2 in Nvidia Inspector and seeing if that worked. It doesn't seem to play nicely with the rift and one card was still not being used, overall performance was worse.
Still, Rob, your settings seem pretty nice for a single 970. Do you really get no judder even in stations? I'm going to give them a shot now. So far I was just switching between the chunky presets... (Maybe I'll try disabling SLI altogether as well...) EDIT - Just tried your settings, also disabled SLI altogether but it had no effect. No way I can run your settings on a single 970 judder free on a station landing pad. Out in space it's a different story ofc. Maybe its my CPU or something else...
If Aldric (or anyone) can let me know how they got SLI working with the DK2, I'd be most appreciative!
My rift is setup to be the second screen (on the right) are you saying this is the reason for judder? I have my pc connected to my 60hrz tv led. I could get the pc and elite up and running then pull my hdmi lead out so no connection to tv or would turning it off just be as good? (I have tried turning it off but still judder) also what is aero is this only on windows 7?
My specs are z97-k asus. I5 4690k 3.9 turbo, r9 290 tri x oc, windows 8.1 SSD, 8 gig Ram and using catalyst 14.7.
Space and outposts are butter smooth but stations close by have slight judder and inside us just terrible. Asteroids are awful in training and solo/online. I could play in rocky asteroids all day long before the update. Having graphic settings on low or high does not make much difference. ( judder is worse)
Sorry for the questions but this post could help people out![]()

@Sanderson and @CylonSurfer
It is the problem of parking Cores. I have a i7-4470k and since i install the following tool:

I have no Problems anymore. Set the slider at 100%!![]()

Hi folks. Just registered an account after lurking here for months because I wanted to share how I got rid of all my stuttering and "white-out (when screen turns light due to loss of position tracking)" issues.
This won't necessarily work for everyone especially those with dated hardware. I'm running a 4790k with a 780ti and could not stand how badly the game performed in the rift. Tried all the suggestions here to no avail but then remembered a trick I used way back to get battlefield 4 running smoothly.
What's the trick? Adjusting the system core parking settings. I'm not expert on this but it has to do with how the OS handles the availability of the cores. Long story short, the utility provided in the link below will allow you to set the cores to never be parked.
I tested this by turning it on and off and have confirmed that this will resolve the stuttering. I'm running at max settings with blur and AA turned ON and shadows on best quality and there is almost zero stutter except inside stations where it happens sporadically. Could not believe this old trick would make such a huge difference.
I have no idea what the long term consequences are by setting the cores at 100% availability so proceed at your own risk. I'm finally enjoying the hell out of Eand hope you guys get the most out of it also with this method.
Good luck!
Oh here's the link to the utility: http://coderbag.com/programming-c/cpu-core-parking-manager
Ladies and gents...I just bought the oculus rift. Now, if only If only, it could be here within days. *sigh*
Grats, welcome to the club.
I tested this and it solved the gamma flashes (when screen turns light due to loss of position tracking) completely for me. However, it looks like low persistence is gone and there's more judder.
It suggest that the loss of positional tracking is somehow CPU related. Like there are CPU spikes with interfere with the tracking. I never had any problems in version 1.6.x.
It's also possible to stop CPU parking through a Windows Power Scheme. I made a Power Scheme specifically for Elite Dangerous. Your run the following commands:
set ElitePowerScheme=A1234567-1234-1234-1234-F00000111AAA
powercfg -DUPLICATESCHEME SCHEME_MAX %ElitePowerScheme%
powercfg -CHANGENAME %ElitePowerScheme% "Elite Dangerous Power Scheme"
powercfg -SETACVALUEINDEX %ElitePowerScheme% sub_processor 0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583 100
powercfg -SETACTIVE %ElitePowerScheme%
This create a new Elite Dangerous Power Scheme with core parking disabled.

Hi PIM1, my setup is very similar to yours except that I have an r9 280X. I've found everywhere runs fairly smooth mostly with the graphics dialed down all the way as far as it can go (graphics end up looking terrible but the experience is still awesome). This leads me to believe that the performance would be better with a better graphics card (and maybe an i7 with parked cores?) and isn't related to the "monitor" the rift is attached to or anything like that.My rift is setup to be the second screen (on the right) are you saying this is the reason for judder? Interesting, I thought I read in a few places that parking cores was only relevent for i7s.Just wanna say this made a huge difference for me as well!
