Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I was interested in the Fleet carrier storage capacity, 25000 units. How long can you store Kobi beef? on the rare good loops.
And the shipyard details look ok. But, question is, how are mats treated( can they be stored?) in the carrier?
And, Can I have fully engineered ships for sale to others? Honest Yuri's used ship yard, like deals...:D
Can I store fully engineered bits and pieces!...
I am mostly going financially backwards at the moment, but now have three Krait MK2, combat, mining, and power play runner.

In short: what happens in Beta stays in Beta.
Nothing your copy in the Beta does has any influence on the main game, the two exist independently, on independent server instances.

Just double check before you do anything irreversible, like a CMDR reset, that you actually are in the beta...

It says in the second post in the recap thread IIRC that rares are amongst the things that cannot be stored on a Fleet Carrier, mats are always stored wherever they are stored and are always available so FCs should have no effect.

Fleet carriers in bubble. Not attractive to solo players. Those in player groups get possibilities I think. Fleet carriers out of bubble possibilities for everyone, but still perhaps limited for solo players, unless they want to play shops.

So, i've been attacked by NPC pirates alot whilst mining in my python, so i swapped the surface missile for a railgun, and im happy with the results! It takes the pirates ages to make a dent in my shields. Just now i managed to take out 1 pirate and damage enough before the security force turned up.

Question though, for a single railgun, how should i engineer it? Heat or power consumption isn't a problem

I've been comparing my Phantom to AspX. The former has about a 4LY greater range over the latter now, turning a 10 jump journey into a 9 jump one. Not much in it. However, I have noticed the Phantom to be cooler running; it certainly doesn't have as much smoke wafting up from the dashboard on an impatient fuel scooping exercise.

My favourite area of virgin stars appears to have run dry. Time to dust off the dog of war.

Short ranged, oversized should do the most damage, but long range lets you open fire out to 6 km or you could pick high capacity for twice as many shots.
Which would be best for you I don’t know, personally I don’t use fixed weaponry when I can avoid it.

...and then when the beta ends? Do you return to the pre-gift credits that you had and lose the ship?

Just for clarity:

Your main account / game is totally separate - you can run that game during the beta as normal but the beta features are not available.

The beta "account" starts off with a snapshot of the galaxy (including your normal account) taken at some point a week or two earlier, everything you do in the beta "account" is completely separate from your normal game and when the beta ends everything you did in it is wiped. (OK it is possible that the second beta might build on your first one's end status, we don't know.)

On the PC there is a new directory tree created containing the beta game files, they don't delete this after the beta has finished you have to do that yourself. Here is my directory tree at the moment which still has the last beta game folder (I didn't bother deleting it):

Built a T9 for low temp mining yesterday. Mixed feelings. It does not support more mining lasers than a Python, and it runs literally flaming hot. Even with a armoured PP with thermal spread. On the other hand it's fun to fly. One thing I noticed coming back to the game was that even a relatively large heavy ship like a Python doesn't have enough inertia (or unrealistically powerful thrusters leading to some G-forces that would resemble being smacked by Mike Tyson while centrifuged in a washing machine). The T9 on the other hand feels somewhat right. Due to the cockpit design, it feels like flying a more realistic version of an ASP. I like that physics, and even though it's slow even with dirty drags, it's still maneuverable in an asteroid ring.

Only thing is that the Python is so much better at everything except from cargo capacity, and since my Python still holds 128 ton with a big-a fuel scoop (convenient), I think I'll stay in the Python. The cockpit is cosier than the T9, and contrary to core mining where the view is important while pulse scanning the rocks, LTD mining is pretty straight forward, and the view from the Python is more than adequate. Then I'll have to find some other task for the T9. It won't be combat. Tried raming an Imp Eagle to death at a haz res, but the T9, even though physically packing a punch due to its size and mass, is so heavy that you need to plan like crazy to ram any other ship.

Speaking of ramming in a T9, while LTD mining, I normally keep the cargo scoop open, but wanting to go faster to the next rock, I closed the scoop and boosted. Then I realized, for the 1000th time, that boosting is like burning a rocket. You can't turn it of half way. The rock became bigger and bigger in a dangerous way, especially sitting in the somewhat fragile cockpit, with ~2500 tons of ship and cargo strapped to your back. Decided to throttle full reverse and stay on course. The asteroid in VR suddenly got really big and so close that I lifted my feet, only to stop the ship a few feet from the hard surface. I've said it before. This game! (y)

Solo players can use them though, don't need to own one to use one.Not so much a credit sink, more a credit syphon.Weird gifting...the have-nots supporting the haves. On second thoughts, perhaps all too normal.Oh,that's right...dystopian universe.Hey ma,i'm home. :D

Yeah - I have signed-up to have one located out in the wilds of the galaxy (Hieronymus Delta) as part of the Deep Space Support Array ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...sa-a-fleetcomm-initiative.540166/post-8360302) so I'm not sure how I will be able to finance its support - will have to wait and see how things settle-down.

I shall try to avoid the area util you are up and running, then come and pay you a visit. Kerching!
Seriously though, it sounds like a great initiative, but the act of getting it on station sounds like a humongus task in and of itself.I wish you luck.

I'm some ways off owning a carrier, but if you need some help grinding the thing out there I might be able to contribute. I'm hoping that one of the things that comes out of the beta is a system to allow other CMDRs to contribute to upkeep and management. Otherwise these things might feel more like a liability than an asset.

Tldr:
* Headcannon heavy

I am currently running out of Jaques, training up the girls. To get them motivated we have been doing sprint times (500ly out, waypoint, scoop only, full system mapping in target system only, and fss one complete system on the return leg makes for an hours worth of time in game ).I can tell they are becoming a little more interested in 'the life', now that they can compete to everyone's benefit.
Yesterday, we ran slap bang into a donut, and the cabin was filled with oohs and ahs as we hung for a while in what felt like the eye of Grood.

A trick I've learned for breaking is if you turn your belly towards your trajectory with FA-off (it may be beneficial to be slightly angled too), then turn on FA and throttle to 0, you slow down to a stop significantly faster than you can do any other way*, though not counting the time to rotate into position.

*Turning full 180 and boosting opposite direction is very slightly faster but the turn takes longer and give you significantly less control.
