Can't wait to find how CIG will handle a peasant complaining about being griefed by a multi-$K worth bourgeois... And other edge cases...
I suspect it'll more be the other way around...as Sovapid often shows in his vids. $65 cheap as chips fighter exploding $600 bling barges with great abandon...flashing the cash only buys you stupidly expensive but mostly useless ships with a big target painted on them... and a restricted chat channel on Spectrum to do your whining on...it doesn't buy you friends :)

I've been on a particular Orgs kill-on-sight list since early 3.7 after I rammed 2 of the wannabe gankers to death with my Caterpillar...then further embarrassed them by blowing bits off the same 2 idiots when I was flying a Prospector in 3.8...then further compounded that by stabbing them in the back at Grim Hex... I'm waiting to be promoted to run-away-from-on-sight...might serve them better :D

It's a while since I've supported a KickStarter, but my recollection is that you donate your money, whether or not the project succeeds is immaterial.

A drone project that I backed went bust, and KickStarter backers weren't even listed as creditors.
You promise to give the amount when the conditions of the kickstarter are met. Like a minimum amount of funding is promised this way. If the conditions fail you should get the money back. If met, the money is gonne for good.

So Star Citizen is really P2L - pay to lose?

Sovapid's videos farming salt from carebear whales are hilarious, and he should post many more of them

They're not exactly helpful and they're usually slow at answering requests...unless you're concierge. Concierge support isn't too bad, even considering it's one of the few perks we do get apart from tacky gold plated gear that only the 890J owners wear to cover up their CR monogrammed gold budgie smugglers.

Common peasants get the chain smoking cat lady with a waiting list ;)

At the start of 3.8, I started with zero credits...did a character reset and got all my 3.7 credit total back but lost a few ship upgrades...3.9 is plagued with that at the moment...account errors which lose you bought equipment or credits or both, it's all tied to the LTP database which isn't quite working as it should. I've been lucky and not lost anything so it's a bit of a lottery as to who loses what... if anything at all. Some like me are lucky, others have been plagued with it even after resetting more than once to fix it. Even the latest PTU hotfix patch hasn't fixed it for some...I was fine once again.

The hotfix PTU was a possible fix for turning invisible on login, losing mobiglas and the like rather than account errors though which was somehow tied into the character creator...no idea how.

For errors or game bugs, it's much easier to ask around in game chat or pop onto Spectrum and rake around rather than go through support. They're more busy and a lot slower than usual as a result of the lockdown thing and often aren't aware of the workarounds that folks who regularly play are already aware of...like I mentioned before, the testing chat channel is particularly helpful in suggesting workarounds or solutions.

This just in: Star Citizen LTP database and user accounts info get lost in server crash and/or eaten by a dog. "Sorry folks, we did what we could but it all looks like you need to pledge again so we can pay back our loans and the Calders. Thanks for your understanding."

True dat. Though I guess there's some orgs with $M worth of assets that plan to fully own/control sectors of the 'Verse through close to griefing methods.

And the other way around: a bourgeois complaining of being griefed by a peasant - peasant that's just playing the PVP game, not really griefing - who do you think CIG will balance towards?

I don't honestly think they care that much besides attempting to minimise griefing and ganking for sport by adding a few minor consequences and inconveniencies...folks playing also generally understand it's an open style PvP enabled environment, there's no solo mode or Mobius to sneak off to...there's always some salt as you'd expect but not as much as you'd imagine. Pad rammers were universally hated...gankers and getting shot at generally were accepted with a little bit of good grace and a minimum of whining. There will always be exceptions of course...happens in all games with pew since there'll always be salt farmers. I generally don't get shot at that often unless I go looking for it...when and if I do, I don't mind too much, live or die...all part of gaming.

Money spent just gives you ships, it doesn't award that with any kind of impunity, perceived or not. As for the orgs who dream of controlling large swathes of space with their bling barges full of minions...there's more than 1 server to play on. I'm sure they'll be happy playing all on their lonesome...they can all salute each other or something :)

What kind of rebuy system does SC actually have, do you lose a lot if your mining ship gets killed or whatever?
If you're cargo hauling it can be quite expensive...loss of cargo due to exploding ship with... as yet... no cargo insurance leaves you seriously out of pocket. Mining...all you lose is time. There's no buyback fee for reclaiming a ship, just a timer which varies in duration depending on the size of your ship...short time for small ships ranging to 15 minutes real time...up to an hour for large ships...which can be expedited to a few minutes for a fee, ranging in cost again depending on size of ship. Bigger ships can earn more credits so a fee of a couple of thousand credits to expedite the reclaim process doesn't hit as hard....unless you get blown up every 5 minutes of course ;)

Generally, if one of my big ships gets destroyed I'll fly something else until the reclaim timer runs down...as the expedite fee decreases over time. I can generally afford it well enough...cargo running and mining is pretty lucrative.

Probably because its still alpha and a lot of people still view it as not being that important if you lose something. Like in ED, what happens in beta stays in beta. I suspect salt levels will dramatically rise should the game ever release.
I've no doubt...it'll hit the guys with no LTi on their ships too having to fork out for an insurance premium every month/year with in game credits when that all kicks in, you can't (as yet) buy LTi as a separate entity. I've no doubt however that Ci¬G will have it appear in the store at some point as a cash only upgrade option...watch this space.

The majority, if not all of us bourgeois swine have LTi on all of our ships since it's included as standard in the concierge level ship packages or warbond purchases...another P2W advantage nobody ever seems to pick up on. Basic standalone ship purchases unless it's warbond get you 3 or 6 months insurance on a ship... assuming they ever get that close to release they'll activate the ship insurance thing.

Another smaller P2W advantage is that we can CCU individual ships from a concierge level package and upgrade it to a non LTi ship which when added to the package automatically gains the LTi.

Another way around that is that many folks occasionally buy LTi 'token' ships...like a Dragonfly hoverbike or something for $45 warbond price...then CCU upgrade it later to another more expensive non LTi ship...the LTi carries over.

Does this extend to the top tier releases though?

My understanding was that an 890J was nigh impregnable to cheaper ships for example (unless using exploits like shield holes etc). IE this was it on PTU release:

(It seems it got buffed further, although exploding 4 cutlasses inside its shields would do for it ;))

The scenario seems to be similar with the Hammerhead etc.

@sovapid what's your take on this? Are the biggest / most expensive ships gankable? ;)

All you need is for one of your cheap as chips fighters like the Avenger Warlock, Hawk and Saber Raven which have an EMP fitted, kills the power on a ship disabling shields and engines...Sovapid uses an EMP a lot these days which I've noted in his vids... EMP spammers are about as popular as a fart in a lift though...and he'll come over to the EU servers now and EMP spam my little prospector for that one

Yeah but isn’t that supposed to be a glitch too? Like you’re not supposed to be able to bypass shields without knocking them down first + knockout ships perpetually via EMP?

That’s what I’m interested in really. If everything is working as intended, are the whale barges intended to be super serf proof...

(I recognise I’m asking for impossible testing circumstances there though ;))

We still need to wait and see how LTI is actually implemented come release. They have a lot of lattitude here, from making it hardcore pay to win to being fairly useless. Either way it will upset some people.

The bigger ships were all supposed to require a number of smaller fighters working coop to even think of taking them on...but that doesn't work already, because of shield hole exploitation, silly weapon balancing and partly through intention by Ci¬G. They nerfed my near impregnable Caterpillar by taking away one of it's shield generators to pacify whiny Carrack owners who got all precious that a flying shipping container had better shields than their bling barges...and the solo gankers who couldn't handle a Caterpillar that just totally ignored the pew and flew on thinking that all the flashing on the shields was just another weird SC bug.

Nerfing my lovely Caterpillar into a floating piñata was called 'balancing'...I have a few other names for what they did to it, none of them nice...
