VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

Ok, so no coming back for me. Headset sales are up globally and VR is finally becoming less niche.... so what should happen??? VR support should be on the rise....what frontier does is as usual opposite of what makes sense and drops VR support. One of the main reasons I left the game was loss of trust in its future and Frontier keeps reaffirming my decision any time they get the chance. At least I didn’t sink any more time in this year

And my summation was correct. There is not enough profit in VR for them to care whether you "no vr I quit!" people leave or not. If VR users staying or leaving amounted to any sort of real financial impact, they would not release until VR was in it. VR is niche. If you won't play because "no VR!!", then you're a niche in a niche.

I do love being right.

Edit: I do feel bad for ya if you enjoy VR and will miss it. I do not feel bad if you can't see you bought a Nintendo Power Glove and yet expect to be important enough to demand catering to.

you dont seem like a very nice person. just saying

So I will take a very close look at the features and see if they are worth playing the game solely in 2D
Based on what have been said so far, I think this is what I will do as well. However, the way things stand, I will put all of my in-game purchases on hold until it has been clarified whether or not I am happy to play the game in its new state. A few musts for that to occur are:
  • No loss of VR support in current content.
  • No game new game mechanics that put VR players (or rather players without Odessey) at a direct competitive disadvantage in current content. For example as engineeres put non-Horizon players at a disadvantage.
  • No direct advantages in current content for Odessey players, eg, Odessey content does not allow faster gathering of materials etc (I am fine with new ways of gathering materials as long as they are on par with what we have)

If those are satisfied I will consider staying in game.

The full quotes for anyone who hasn’t seen, including core + Horizons support remaining etc

Is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey coming to VR?

Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.
Just to add to this, VR will still be compatible with the base game and Horizons!

they have at least confirmed that horizons will still allow VR

You said VR was a dead end, friend.

It ain’t dead yet. We’ll be around annoying you by having fun in it for years to come ;)

But will it allow you to use VR for flying if you launch Odyssey?

That's my main question, if I can do everything in VR that I can currently do now and switch to pancake for legs that might be OK, but if I have to play a legacy version without new features to play in VR then I guess I'll find another game to play.

Truly gutted. :(

I was initially excited when I saw the news. Now I'm deflated. I was sooo looking forward to experiencing atmospherics in VR.

Space legs I could have done without until VR support was ready.

How about another kickstarter for VR support in Odyssey. I'd be on board for that if it was purely a financial thing.

They didn't answer this very question for years now and it's rather unlikely anybody in their sane mind would pop out his head right now, for the truth might keep us from buying ARX for another six months at least and set off a hailstorm of disappointment. That said, FPS works remarkably well in VR in Fallout 4, if that counts. You can choose from different modes of movement even, but I switched all helpers off and play the game just like I would in 2D without any fuss, on a 3 year old PC with a GTX1070. It's definitely possible.

EDIT: Oh, wrong I've been. And there will be no VR support for Odyssey. Confirmed. Officially. Thanks.

O7,
🙃
No VR is no buy.

I mean, you weren't right at all seeing as having both VR and non-VR users in the same play space of an FPS means some sort of gameplay compromise which they didn't want to do. That has zero to do with profit.

I can't relate for elite but I have a semi similar experience with psvr. Only difference is capcom was up front about resident evil 7 dlc not supporting vr. Made it sting a bit less but I understand the frustration.

This was the best route to take imo. If they didn't say anything about the support and it wasn't there???? Oh boy.

its good theyve confirmed it. I have slowly dropped elite due to no new updates and fdev refusing to tell us anything and i think this finishes it for me.

That said if i still loved the game, was new to the franchise or played 2d i would be really excited for this.

Has everything to do with profit. The amount of people that might leave because "no VR" is not enough of a loss to justify the development expense of making sure VR was in from the beginning. If VR truly mattered, they would have compromised the gameplay or found a way to make everything work as a priority. VR can literally be put in later, or never, and not cost them enough to care. that's everything to do with profit. Stop looking at the game, and start looking at the business it really is. Profits and expenses dictate development. Period.

They also confirmed VR will still be supported by horizons. So i'll still play. Just wont buy Odyssey. I only like killing goids so its fine really
