Base building is not currently on the roadmap for Elite Dangerous
This is a huge shame, being able to settle on a planet you can call home, that was such a huge pull. Back to No Mans Sky then.
Base building is not currently on the roadmap for Elite Dangerous
The thing is if we only get to walk around on planets what´s the point? We already have SRV´s.... I all wanted is to be able to walk around my Ship and such and I know many other Players that want that as well.
The worst part is I can't protest by not buying it because they already have my money.
I had the same thought when people complained about no bridge view in the FC - sure, it would be nice to see once, maybe twice, but then ....See I'm the opposite. I can't even begin to understand the fascination with walking around your ship - it's something that I'd do once. Ditto the insistence from some that it will only be worthwhile if we have to walk from our ship to the planet's surface rather than a fade-to-black. To me it's like saying 'I never leave the house because I don't like my door handle.'
Assemble Your Crew
Greetings Commanders,
Thank you for your overwhelmingly positive response to the announcement of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. We’ve been really excited to share this and it’s amazing to see that you all feel the same way!
This is just the beginning and we will be sharing more details and information in the coming months that you can look forward to.
We’re seeing all your streams, videos, posts and questions and, today, we wanted to answer a few for you straight away:
Is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey coming to VR?
Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.
Will there be Base Building in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey?
Base building is not currently on the roadmap for Elite Dangerous, however we have plenty of new features planned instead such as on-foot exploration, new planetary tech, social hubs, combat as well as more to be shared later on! We’re looking to put our best foot forward with Odyssey and if you’d like an overview of what to expect, you can check out the website or Steam page.
Will Elite Dangerous: Odyssey be included in my Lifetime Expansion Pass?
While Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is a paid expansion, we're happy to confirm that yes, this expansion will absolutely be included in the Lifetime Expansion Pass for free.
Stay Safe, Commanders o7
True but historically the features which are not in initially do not have a great track record of coming in any time soon.
The number of people who said "we don't even have atmospheric landings like in FFE" over the years, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that "blue skybox" was all they wanted, given that Horizons had far more actual surface gameplay and content than FFE had...Realism aside, it comes down to what people wanted from Atmo planets in this game. I'd buy it if you're telling me that an atmosphere planet in this game means a regular planet with a blue sky and that's the only major difference, and that ELWs/other types are totally off limits. In fact, I wouldn't care that I can't fly on those planets without VR since I wouldn't really be seeing anything that I don't see anywhere else (except a blue sky instead of stars), but that's just not really what I thought folks were asking for with them.
Ship interiors need to be clarified asap! Massive selling point of the DLC!Greetings Commanders,

You forgot something! None of these games were made by Frontier.......added VR support later:
NMS
DCS World
Project Cars
Resident Evil 7
Minecraft
Fallout
Skyrim
Iracing
Everspace
and some others.
Assemble your crew ... with the same 3-D printing technology used to generate new SLFs!Assemble your crew... ... on the bridge?! =D Or will they, too, hide in my cargo hold?
Assuming Odyssey and Horizons aren't two entirely separate games, then at least it looks like we get a graphics buff across the board, so hopefully we'll enjoy better lighting and textures (and maybe even better surface procgen) in Horizons as well, which we can enjoy in VR.
For everyone annoyed about no Odyssey VR at launch. The key words here are 'at launch', that doesnt mean that they dont plan to add it later.
That unfortunately has just killed The new dlc for me. If @Tim Smith is correct I will be able to fly in VR to all current planets but not to any new worlds.
I am assuming that I will be able to fly towards a new planet, then have to log out, take off my vr headset, plug in a set of headphones and mic, reload the game and only then be able to fly towards the planet surface.
As a premium beta back I have to say I am disappointed at this backward immersion breaking content.
How many of those are elite dangerous? I was talking about expected features in ED not in at launch. Old duck made 1 pertinent example. PSVR on PS4. They didn't say never, they said not at launch.added VR support later:
NMS
DCS World
Project Cars
Resident Evil 7
Minecraft
Fallout
Skyrim
Iracing
Everspace
and some others.
