ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Announcement

When I started playing Elite in VR I thought that after that experience "there was no going back", and now with the announcement of Odyssey without VR clearly FD has taken a clear step back for those who think like me.
From a project / business point of view where it competes with "others", this decision gives this competition, which already has perfectly developed legs and atmospheric planets, a golden opportunity.
I don't think not including VR was very smart.

I suspect Frontier have different priorities.

You know, considering they have to cater for thousands of players, and not just you?

As I keep saying, you're not actually losing anything. You may not be getting something in the first place but by definition that means you've lost nothing.

If VR support is cut from existing content... Then the VR segment of the community will have a point.

Fact is VR legs never got introduced. And we don't always get what we want in life. Even if we spend £3000 on a computer.
I am a customer who bought a product which is sold on a 100% vr only store. As a customer if I feel hard done by it is not my concern to worry about the company.
FD have been teasing us the new planetary tech since 2017 as a hook to bear with them
... It now seems none of that will be coming to my game, whilst I could be wrong it does look like the next expansion will be totally separate from the horizons build. I could equally put your accusation against you btw. You have said you will never get VR so it seems to me you are not interested in VR so screw all those players who have no interest in a non VR game.
I am pleased you are happy with the announcement but as a paid up customer of FD who paid far more for the game than I would have because of VR I am entitled to push back at not having access to the dlc in the format unpaid for it in.

No, VR routines are significant pieces of code. They are worried about and working on getting the update out. Once they do that then they can work on adding the VR routines.
HA there is still no VR for the PS4 ... sry but that simply doesn't add up anymore.

Ah, so like the OS X/macOS client, it was an unwanted extra that they threw in just to get over the line, even though it appears they didn't really need that money at all.

This is the downside of KS, and to be honest I imagine FD internally curse doing it because it meant you had to keep on promising things to gain interest, rather than producing something 'as is'. Plus, if ED is going for a 10 year run, things will change for better or worse. The game will be reacting to the market, and sometimes that means people get let down.

I've said multiple times that I hope VR support comes. Feel free to check my post history.

Trust me, if I started attacking VR players for such ridiculous reasons that you're (falsely) accusing me of, you would not see my posts at all. That's all I can say on that matter.

But yes. I am absolutely more concerned by the need for everyone to play first.

And again. Existing VR features are not being removed.

Dare I say FD might make a wide wise decision and not make the expansion available in the Oculus Store? I wouldn't know if it's there to wishlist because, considering my visual disability, I'm not going to spend several hundred pounds on a device I physically cannot use without extreme pain.

This is the core of the issue. Steam statistics has VR adoption at something like a few percent of the user base. How large is the proportion of the general user base that has ED vs the proportion of the VR user base that has ED? While ED is a good space sim game for an average Steam user, there are many many other games to choose from. For a VR player wanting a space sim game - they will have ED in their library 100% of the time.
bad statistic.
you use the average adoption of VR among all players and translated to ED player base.
Your reasoning is fault. Surely the amount of ED players using VR is much more high than that.
As you can see if you attend some VR forum or sites, most VR users have bought ED only because it has VR in it, otherwise they would have pass.

You then have to wonder why Frontier supported VR in the first place in ED when it was a less well developed market.

The most likely explanation for the current situation is that there are not insignificant technical hurdles to overcome for VR Odyssey, which FD have chosen not to prioritise - probably so the game can enjoy an earlier release date and FD can start getting some revenue in from the project.

again i dont really understand why so many VR users are complaining.. for so long now.. rage quitting because of something they don't have to play. Horizions will still be on your launcher you can switch the clients just like they did with the base game and Horizions ...when you do the odyssey content will be locked. switch back and it wont. Stop acting like children. I mean they are doing their best... And give them bloody time.. they are still way ahead of any other space game out there... and there will prolly be additions to Horizions and Elite to incorperate the srv and ship combat with the FPS.. Remember ED and Horizions could play together when it launched. so my guess is VR players will be able to be in SRV's and ships while ground forces are moving in... so cover me!!!! And i am sorry but if you cant play a game in nothing but VR... you need to quit for a while anyways.
