The way I see it now, as it stands if VR isn't coming I am done with ED. FD have shown they for better or for worse do sometimes change things based off player reactions.... So for me this is the last stand. There have been some issues i have been mildly annoyed by but this IS the hill I am gonna die on,.my last stand so to speak If FD come back at us and say They are not going to reconsider then there is nowt I can do about it, but this way at least going on history there is a chance they could reconsider (like ship transfer) and if they don't well at least I/we tried.
I have literally nothing to lose and with up to 12months till launch there IS still time perhaps for FD to change their minds

wait... is this thread still going on about VR support? i see the same 10 to 20 people re-stating the same complaint again and again, making it seem more severe than it actually is lol
imagine if the Devs said "not supported PERIOD" instead of "INITIALLY" :ROFLMAO:

just want to say, VR or no VR, Base building or no base building, ship interrior or no ship interrior, im just happy and glad, that we had SOME news, of whats going to come. it restored my hope in elite dangerous, and hopefully more to come. Good job dear devs, and good luck. you clearly have a tough and difficult community to deal with. i admire your patience and commitment. 🥳

I don’t need to have a VR experience to know that I don’t want to stick a headset (even ultra light) on my face for hours.

Already, I make efforts to wear glasses in front of the computer, so a headset ... not even in dreams :)

If one day the miniaturization allows to play in VR with glasses like eyeglasses, then yes I would be the first volunteer.

So should at least give it a try. Elite is quite an experience in VR. Doesn't have to be for hours.

again apologies. I’d be annoyed too.

Thing is, VR totally transforms the game to the point you are in it. You should try it, but only if you're prepared to then want it so badly you'll chuck a ton of cash into what you'll need to run it. It's blummin amazing frankly.

For those who want to walk around the ship, what is the proposed gameplay purpose of this? Other than "it sounds cool".

Walking around ship interiors would be great and it could open things up for some interesting game mechanics (if FDev chooses).

We have a lot of ships in the game, but most people gravitate to only a handful. This is because ships are largely selected based on the benefits they provide, and there are a handful of ships that excel in each category (Exploration, Combat, Trade).

Ship interiors would give each ship a deeper level of character. If i'm out in the deep black, I may be more inclined to explore with my Cutter or Clipper rather than the Anaconda if the interior is more appealing. There is plenty of downtime in the black.

Maybe host a high stakes poker game from your observation deck while orbiting two ELWs? Many possibilities.

I'm really hoping they're going for that rather than "there's now G6 and G7 blueprints available, materials only available from Odyssey activities"
I share that hope, and possibly the new engineers are first person stuff, long er range jump jets, more powerful assault rifles etc, but I think we'd agree its more likely that the new engineering will be G6 +G7 mods, possibly at new engineers who are on atmospheric (Odyssey only) worlds?

That’s why I don’t buy a VR headset.

Having this thing on my face for hours gives me nightmares.

Honestly, once you have the headset on, and get engrossed in the game, you forget about it being there as you are so immersed in the game and engrossed by it the headset isn't a consideration anymore.

Agreed, I'm sure VR players would be happy to make the commitment to stay with horizons and commit to buying Odyssey in the future if Fdev give a commitment to deliver VR in the future.
A statement along the lines of "4.0 will launch without VR, 4.01 & 4.02 will be bug fixes but 4.03 will be dedicated to restoring VR and integrating it into the new content" would most likely instantly extinguish the dumpster fire that the VR/Odessy threads have become.

I hate to tell you this. They probably didn't have a gameplay plan back then. Now, today, as a for-profit business, why should they add it to Odyssey? What benefit could be added that isn't too costly to implement?
Seriously? Didn't have game plan? Are you for real? It is entirely verifiable, by looking at the Kickstarter pages that there was always a long term plan.
"Now, today, as a for-profit business..." What do you think they back were then, a charity? A social club? A governmental agency?

Good job dear devs, and good luck. you clearly have a tough and difficult community to deal with. i admire your patience and commitment. 🥳
It's not their main concern.

They work, execute the orders from the management and collect their wage at the end of the month.

So like all the employees they have no moods. :)

Imagine if they said there was no Raxxla. How would you feel?

Ultimately it's a question of cost of development over adoption and thus sales. Only Frontier can make that decision. That's an issue with VR in itself, it has a lot of parallels to the Nintendo Wii U in that regard. The Wii U's failure was a lot of things but one of the big ones was lack of 3rd party support and the reason for it was cost of development to support the non-standard gamepad. You can't just port a game from XBox to Wii U, you have to develop in features that only work with that one console. This is the same effect as VR, you can't just "add VR" you are basically developing another game to support it.

Frontier has to decide if the numbers of users support that development cost, and clearly the answer they came up with is "Not at this time". The same is true for the FPS gameplay, which I hate the idea of btw. Obviously the numbers suggested enough people would want it, I still think it's dumb and I will make that opinion known. But like it or not, it's coming and I'll probably not be playing ED at all once I can't compete because I refuse to play FPS games. It's unfortunate, but I really don't expect Frontier to stop and change directions over a minority either. It's just sad I'm losing a game I love.

I've already seen reports on VR.

It's fantastic !

It is not the VR that I criticize (I would be crazy) but the equipment. :)

Admittedly after a few hours you want to scratch the skin of your face. It's worth it but could definitely be improved.

PS want to know something weird? In VR, if I don't have my distance contact lenses in, stuff in the distance is blurred like in real life. Even the screens are only a couple of inches from my eyes. My optician is baffled.
