ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Announcement

When will Elite Odyssey be playable in v, 2022? I really do not understand why Odyssey is not VR from the launch it is the main asset of this game, also being terribly disappointed I think I will definitely stop this game if it goes in 2D. Such a waste....

The game isnt going 2D, this is about this DLC

Admit that it is still incomprehensible to go from a great game in VR in 2D, lack of ambition? means? purely commercial policy (we will make enough money by leaving it only in 2D)? Understand my rage I have more than 5000 hours of play, I must speak to Mr. Braben because I do not understand.

I actually agree with that, and in another thread on the VR topic I made that distinction that we cannot level the price of our kit at Frontier. Although that was meant more from a point of view of we didn't spend £XXXX with frontier, we spent £100 for example (game + paints) and £XXXX-£100 on hardware.

But yeah, even though I am one of the more vehemently vociferous in the protest against removing VR from Odyssey, I'm pragmatic enough to admit that what you've said is 100% correct.
Almost everything I have said on this topic is correct. You not liking it does not make it false.

I am still waiting for you or any VR user to prove to me that you are physically unable to use a monitor. As it stands, it is simply a case of not wanting to. They are not the same.

Considering you're all writing on this forum, I think you'll all find that request difficult to fulfil. Unless you can use a web browser in a headset now? That's a sincere question, by the way, as I genuinely don't know.

Reminder: I really do hope you get your VR support. I really do. If it's there, it's only a good thing. It is taking nothing away from me, so why would I be against it? I am not saying you don't have a reason to be upset, but you're also blowing this way out of proportion.

Well, to be completely fair, I never NEEDED those skins. Sure they are nice, but I could have easily lived without them. I bought them to SUPPORT FDev, who was the ONLY developer creating and maintaining a VR space-sim-like title. Which is my absolutely favorite genre of games.

So I just gave them LOTS of extra money, because I wanted them to create more content, for my VR experience. I didn't expect FREE content. Heck, I would EASILY pay 500 EUR for Odyssey if that was the price with VR.

That's how badly I wanted it. And that's why I feel like a sucker for supporting FDev all these years.

Anyone who bought the game on oculus store which won't get the expansion (because oculus only sell VR title). Besides it's not about physically cant it's about not getting enjoyment from. I don't enjoy playing games like ED on a screen. I only back games now which offer vr in certain genres.

Just to add to this, VR will still be compatible with the base game and Horizons!

But I wanted to play Odyssey in VR, as I am playing Horizons in VR. Still very disappointed. It feels like you are removing support for a long standing and not unpopular feature. Not supported at launch hopefully means you plan to add it in later. Can you confirm that it will be added later?

Look up your own postings when you thought there might be a hole in the Cobra III model, Unikorn. I don't remember you as being that forgiving back then.

So have mercy with all others. Please.

Picking up on the last thing first, thanks for the support, its good to know that even though you are bickering with the VR guys, that you would like to see us get our beloved VR incorporated into Odyssey.

The monitor thing? I'm not aware of seeing anyone saying they physically cannot use a monitor, however, there have been many posts stating they would be unable to play the game on a monitor as their enjoyment would be tainted by the reduced immersion.

Fret not as after all these corridors boredom, SC challenges you with tens of minutes of quantum traveling with no control over your ship. At least in supercruise I'm still in command of my ship.

And please, don't get me started with "activities" in your ship while traveling.
Oh yeah, floor mopping, drink mixing and poop simulation will be awesome gameplay.
And please, don't get me started with "activities" in your ship while traveling. First they don't exist, two there's no guarantee they'll be fun and enough to pass the time.

No, but pirates boarding your ship or having a wingmate fixing your engines under fire could be incredible.

Right now, bounty hunting is pretty shallow. Find them, destroy them and collect bonds. Players could continue to do this, or they can choose to board and capture the bounty for extra rewards. Or maybe you kill the bounty, and while they are paying insurance, you're wingmate is flying their ship to the nearest scrapyard for a big payday.

What we spend on our private hardware is not Frontier's concern. No, they are not obligated in any way to maintain support, and they are not "dumping your investment."

That, is squarely on anyone who decided to buy themselves a headset. None of that money goes to FD. It is literally, and legally, nothing for them to worry about.

If it were their problem, you wouldn't be the one who owns your Rift or whatever headset you use. Frontier would be the legal owner.
Seriously, you don't think it enters the equation, You don't think they factor in how much users will have to spend on hardware to play the game? They do, I'm in the industry, I know. But the cost of hardware is dwarfed compared with the value of the time invested in the game. I spend my time playing the game now in preparation for things coming in the future. I spent hour after hour mining because I wanted to make sure I could afford a fleet carrier whenever they came out. I emailed my ED mates saying we should start earning now for whatever we might need to buy in Odyssey. This time is valuable and I will never get it back. This isn't instant gratification like some games, ED requires commitment and investment. We have all done the grind for materials, for credits, for ranking so at some time in the future, maybe months in the future we can get a ship and engineer it and then benefit and move higher. If you haven't then you haven't played the game as intended. And now that investment is worthless as I can't continue with the game. Buying hardware and spending time in an investment into the game and that investment has now been thrown away. Don't even start on the "play the game on the monitor" rubbish.

For my part, I bought my first VR headset (oculus DK2) which got me started on Elite and other flight simulators like DCS or IL2 and today I'm on my fifth headset VR (in this case the Valve Index and Pimax 5k +, after the HTC and the CV1) it's been a long time since I sold my PC4k monitor and there I learn that Odyssey is not planned in VR !!!! I'm leaving from France to speak with Mr. Braben, does he live or exactly?

I know. Fair time ago.

I took a break. Did other stuff.

Realised how stupid that thread was.

I no longer care about a missing texture.

I am not hiding anything, as obviously I know my posts are all on record. Have at it, I say. I can't stop you.

Totally agree to years of deep play (in VR) to prepare the sequel. Until you try VR (in good hardware condition, 2080TI and everything in between) you can't understand what it is to be in the game, I've known friends who have sold their triple screen 4K after trying a VR headset .....

We have had the ability to do that for years.

It will kill ED for me and from my perspective that is really my main priority.
No one said you had to use the first person perspective. You want to abandon the game, that's on you. You don't like the way they've implemented 1st person view, you can still play it in the standard way (less VR) But nothing says you have to upgrade. Sounds like an excuse to abandon the game. Why make excuses, just say, I'm done. No one will force you to stay. And if VR is your deal breaker, then your standards are way too high.I don't use it because I don't want to wear a box on my head. I tried it. Incredible view. But way to hot and tiring to boot so I just play the regular way.
