VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

because if it is part of the game then its a VR players perspective game breaker.....if it was a completely different games as you put it in the comment about everspace and everspace 2 (completely separate games) then there would be no issue

but if the same feature are not equal accross the whole game then the emersion level lowers dramatically and the frustration levels increase.....which in my own opinion is the wrong way around
Sorry, I don't get it. It wasn't me who made that comment about Everspace by the way.

If you don't buy Odyssey you are effectively getting the same you would get if you don't buy another game.

Let's wait and see. Frontier have history doing this stuff.

i have thought the exact same thing.....they want the community to feel they have all of the input, release a statement thatthey know the community (or part of) will disagree with....allow them to shout their opinions.....360 change and give what they people want.....then nobody really worries about the other bugs in the game for a while because FD have worked to provide what was wanted

these tactics shave worked for many companies

does not affect my ability to buy it but like i said in a previous post, this is how i would see gameplay for VR users

put on headset and fly to system
supercruise to planet
Land on planet
get out of CMDR chair.....VR GOES OFF
take headset off and use flatscreen to walk to SRV
get into SRV....VR back on...
put headset on drive to a location
get out of SRV.......VR GOES OFF
take off headset and use flatscreen to walk around......
get back into SRV VR back on
put headet on and board ship
get out of SRV VR off
headset off to walk to chair
get into chair VR back on
put headset on and start flying

put your headset on, your headset off, on, off, on, off just to play odyssey
you do this all again just to walk upon planets
thats what ED is all about......
OOOOOOOOHHHHHH the joys of VR
OOOOOOOOHHHHHH the joys of VR
OOOOOOOOHHHHHH the joys of VR
from ship to legs is just a big ball ache
If only. It's going to be more like this:

put on headset and fly to system
supercruise to planet
Land on planet
get out of CMDR chair.....VR GOES OFF Quit game and pick "Odyssey" from launcher menu, relaunch game.
take headset off and use flatscreen to walk to SRV
get into SRV....VR back on... Quit game and pick "Horizons" from launcher menu, relaunch game.
Receive pop-up window notification that the planet you were on is part of "Elite Odyssey" content, and that your CMDR, your SRV, and your ship have all been relocated to low orbit above the planet in question.
put headset on drive to a location Fog up lenses with your tears.

So you don't have VR at the moment ?
No, sold it a couple of weeks ago to upgrade for Odyssey that was supposed to be coming out in the last quarter, but is now 2021. New graphics cards in a few months too from Nvidia and AMD. I was excited for my Elite VR.

Pays to wait until you have all the facts before making decisions I suppose.
You still have Elite VR by the way

They
still
haven't

It’s not unreasonable to be concerned that they may never make the case internally for adding it.

The official comments to date don’t amount to much more than what was said regarding PSVR:

Will Elite Dangerous support PlayStation®VR?
Elite Dangerous is a flagship VR game on PC so of course, VR is important to us. It’s definitely something we’re looking into, but we have nothing to announce for launch.

And that didn’t happen.

Adding VR to this ambitious Legs expansion would be a far greater undertaking.

I will not be playing an older version of ED knowing others are playing on new tech with better visuals. I cannot see Frontier bringing the planet tech to Horizons.

Didn't need the sly dig either.

I apologise i thought it was you :) but my comments about it being a separate game were because of that statement

my point is that as it is an expansion to the game that has always supported VR then they DLC should really support it also support it. especially as the type of game it is, which even down to the galaxy, promotes realism. odyssey for me, not being VR compatible will take away that sense for every VR player.

as it is an expansion then there are going to be thing about it that make it harder for player without it, and basically forcing players to buy it. like it has been mentioned about horizons and engineering. but if it were a completely new game, i can understand it not being VR compatible, but then those VR players are not being alienated

Isn't the whole issue that without VR it isn't better visuals?
A lot of the Horizons eye candy came to the base game.

I kind of get that, I am just struggling with the idea that a completely new game would be OK. Most people on this forum would sharpen their pitchforks if space legs and atmospheric planets get released as a standalone game.

Most people on this forum would sharpen pitchforks if FDev gave them all twenty quid

Unless the new planet tech is used exclusively for entirely new types of previously unlandable planets, you'll most likely see better visuals on existing planets, too. We haven't actually seen much in the way of new planet tech yet, anyway, although it looks as though there are some improvements to surface textures and scatter prop variety. If Frontier don't update existing planets to use the new tech, well then fine, but I doubt this will be the case. There's still something happening with ice planets at some point, anyway.

Worth bearing in mind that all the lighting changes and neutron star changes and things like that went into vanilla Elite as well as Horizons when those changes were made.

The planets look different in the base game to Horizons. Someone posted images on the other thread.
I've never paid much attention but I only upgraded to Horizons about a 3 months ago.
I did see at one point though that planet stuff that was in Horizons was added to the base game
