Star Citizen Discussion Thread v11

Must say, you don't get the SC fans like you used to around here. Maybe they are too busy concocting theories about Mole being a secret goon or something.

Its been a while since Mr. Novak has been around. Surely its time for him to spread some more Good News about SC!

Or perhaps the ever loveable Ben Parry can drop in to explain to Viajero (once again) about 64-bit rendering :D
Nah man, most of us are just enjoying the game instead of whining about something we don’t play 😉

We're rubbernecking as we pass a terrible accident and can't look away. Normal human response.
No, you’re 11 threads in spewing the same old some old, meanwhile, other people are enjoying themselves. What can I say, to each his own, you do you 🙂

and 11 threads in we get the same lunatics spouting pure advertisement nonsense which is exactly the reason why we are 11 threads deep stating the same old stuff. It only takes a white knight or fanatic to spur the pagecount another few pages and the run-around with them is the same that it was years ago. The same old argument, the same efforts to make them see logic. The same snide remarks back and forth after its established that you are talking to a dreamer who doesnt grasp reality.

But these people also cant stay away...I really dont get their motive. Its not like they could prove their stories even tho they were asked lots of times but appearantly streaming is hard or they cant be bothered to capture those incredible fun times and in their heads everything is perfect. Meanwhile all the haters can go on by are the actual existing videos or life streams showing Star Citizen in all its (un)glory

Also this ongoing thread stays with CIG and on topic most of the time. If Star Citizen is unchanging for years on end then this thread pretty much stays the same also. Not sure if thats the threads fault or if Star Citizens glacial progress rate is to blame. Fact is that Star Citizen isnt really any closer to releasing a finished complete game then it was 5 years ago. if anything....the scope creep has continued unabated, often empowered by silly people celebrating CIG from the sidelines and is responsible for the project being even more unrealistic then it was. Quite the achievement ^^

To all those who say that space legs and ship interiors are not needed. My today morning 3-hrs adventure:

Jumped into my noobship, picked a mission to identify famous pirate among the crew of blasted Caterpillar.
Got to the location, EVAed out of my ship, started wandering across crashsite.
At that moment, another NPC pirate ship warps in, and explodes my tiny ship with a few shots.
Well... I fly to that NPC pirate ship... Cut with my oxy-cutter through its boarding ramp, and... see a lot of cargo inside.
I rush into the cockpit, kill both NPC pilots before they go out of their chairs - and the ship is mine.
Suddenly i exchanged my noobship for a huge and cool one, full of tasty cargo!
I fly to the nearest smugglers outpost, sell goods, and grab my credits :D
Finally i fly to the space station to get a lot of new purchases - armor, hand guns, food and water - to prepare for some additional adventures.

Then i visit a dusty moon to deliver a package. And having 60 fps on my very mediocre setup, it looks much prettier than ED trailer. Then i fly to find and pickup blackbox from crashed Starfarer. This takes place on a rather hot ammonia moon, nad i notice, that:
  • ship engines overheat at much lower speed
  • my spacesuit shows outside temperature ~220C, as in planet description
  • at that temperature i have estimated survival time (even in my armored spacesuit) about 15 minutes
  • my hydratation marker started dropping VERY quickly, so i was really glad that i purchased and took with myself a few spare bottles of water
FDev, physical atmosphere effects, anything except just bluish gradient over skybox? I hope you will do...

Then i deliver a shipment to a snow planet with very beauty big city/spaceport on it, where, on the contrary, outer temperature is very low, and again i have limited time outside of ship/buildings

In brief:
  • i've got during 3-hrs playsession, much more impressions and fun, than from 3 months of playing ED
  • i had steady 60 fps everywhere on my SSD, GTX 1600, 24gigs of ram, and ryzen 1600x
  • i had no any bugs or crashes
  • even that pair of simplest activities is fun (and eye-candy!) enough to keep me engaged longer, than all what i saw in ED through all 5 years.
  • And didn't try yet: mining, caves exploration, bounty hunting (including bounty hunt missions against players with crimestat), trading, smuggling, PVP, thug life with hunting lawful players, disabling security satellites and fighting back bounty hunters, group PVE missions of attacking giant NPC yacht (like Beluga) with combative boarding and FPS in its interiors, missions to free prisoners from big prison ship (also group ones), the prison itself and ways to go out of it

And in November there goes salvanging, and second star system, with 6 planets, on which just 6 months were spent. While on the initial current system with 4 planets CIG spent 5 years. So rate of star systems implementation became ~10-15 times faster.
And also right now CIG is opening a separate studio in Montreal, which will be working solely on star systems. Which means, well... a few star systems per year i suppose. Having every single star system containing more content and unique POIs than whole ED:H.

So, for $45 there is a lot of fun in SC, which is better, and longer, than in ED for $60. Graphics is much better, and once free fly week ended, i don't have no any bugs or crashes at all. Persistence works - what i earn, stays with me, i can buy ships for creds and fit them, as well as armor and hand guns. More and more star systems are incoming in next months/years, though even single current one provides enough fun, space and POIs for a long play.

The question is - how long time ago did you try SC, and how much decades you built your PC ago, that you have all those issues which you mumble about here :D
I can't wait until Star Citizen adds VR support, a fully-working flight model, server meshing (not 50-player capped servers), player/ship refueling/repair/healing, base building, stable physics, faction warfare, faction reputation, a few dozen star systems to explore, aliens to battle/research/trade, aliens structures to explore, scientific mysteries, lore-filled wrecks and bases, dynamic economy, crafting, equipment modification, guild mechanics, functional tutorials, farming, functional NPCs with AI, black holes, orbital mechanics, fleet carriers, sharable discoveries, and full MMO persistence.

Hey man, you useally type pretty large essays here, so I stopped after the first paragraph, but no, most of the pages here are just a circle jerk with no external input, but whatever, keep going, I kinda enjoy this mess from time to time.

Hey man, you usually only provide 1 or 2 liners so there really isnt much information to your posts at all worth reading even tho I read it again...but yeah, not much in it sorry. I enjoy the defensive sensitivity some people bring to the discussion by trying to "even the score"....you see, figuring out the actual value of the project or the quality of the game isnt really the objective. These people simply want to counter perceived attacks on something they consider great without having real reasons for it. And pressured they react like fanatics usually do....they become defensive because logic and facts dont match up with what they post.

Its true....a lot of things have been said dozens of times and we usually come back to the same things but again, in case you missed it (you said you stopped reading....not sure why you respond at all if you miss half the information)....this is because of the occasional SC snowflake trying to "score" a point for Star Citizen, most of the time by devising absolutely ridiculous stories or claiming things they cant back up.

Action....reaction.

It was said lots of times.....all the SC fanboys need to do in order to avoid the "harassing" is to stop reacting. As of right now SC and its invested backers are a prime target for even weak trolling attempts and the meltdonws we can witness are pure entertainment ^^

But oh yeah...you probably didnt get what I was trying to post anyway....you dont continue reading after the first paragraph....lol you funny man ^^

Nah man, most of us are just enjoying the game instead of whining about something we don’t play 😉

I've tried playing in 2 free flys.

Its helped formulate my opinion of what has been produced. However, if you had been paying attention, you'd note that my issues (and the issues of others) go a long way beyond what CIG are and are not producing, but there are the lies and predatory marketing among other issues that also shape our opinions.

Put it another way. Remember when EA added outrageous lootboxes to their Star Wars game, and many people were up in arms about that, without ever playing or buying the game? Now, i'm sure you wouldn't have made a comment like you just did in response to their bad mouthing of EA would you?

Nice going and nice missions. I play most days...since I've been doing this a while. Still getting 16k-7 errors logging in now and then, even with Fleet week now ended. I run a fairly modest machine by current meta standards (i7 8700k, 64GB 3300 DDR4, 1080ti, 2x 2Tb NVME SSD) but have no complaints as to how SC runs on it.

I'm also a concierge level backer (there's a few of us on here)...have been for a few years...used to be ETF too, not any longer.

Anyway, glad you're having a nice time in SC..it can be pretty good when it works. Look me up in game, I'm just plain 'Mole' over there, no HD ;)

I'll be over in New Cabbage just groovin'...

No, you’re 11 threads in spewing the same old some old, meanwhile, other people are enjoying themselves. What can I say, to each his own, you do you 🙂

Some of it is repetitive, because we remember what CIG has done and it remains relevant these days.

Some of it is new, as CIG add new comedy value to the thread. Like the recent gobeldygook they spouted in order to impress impressionable backers. I'm sure they all think they are now experts at game development upon reading that.

And sure, some people enjoy themselves. There is something there in SC that i'm sure can be enjoyed, but it doesn't actually change a lot of what we are talking about here.

At the end of the day, CIG have provided us with 8 years of comedy and outrage, and its all rather amusing, especially when you are not a backer, don't have anything invested in it, so can afford to take a rather relaxed position as to whether CIG will ever actually release something that could be called a game.

To;dr?

Is this how Star Citizen fans spend their time ?

That's actually quite well done and thoroughly well done.

Of course, i guess the motive is to convince themselves and others that SC is somehow comparable to ED because it already has space legs, which is rather funny. SC has not even a tenth of the gameplay and content ED has.

But its ok, because any time anyone dares to criticize SC, it can hide behind the "its alpha" shield of ultimate defense.

I have been looking for a chance to shout 'IT'S PRE-ALPHA!', but the opportunity has not arisen. I live in hope.

Still no word on the Evocati TOW update? (to stay on topic a bit ;) )

Hold on, what's ETF?

It sounds like something database releated... Extract, Transformation, Fart.... erm...?
