Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Probably a controversial opinion, but I think that the sheer number of Fleet Carriers has made the game look a bit silly, it breaches my immersion by not feeling remotely realistic.
I don’t like it much either. FCs are persistent, so remain when the owner logs out. Mode doesn’t matter, so you can’t escape them. Some kind of filters might be nice.

The galaxy is changing. We’ll just have to see where it goes.

I thought I wasn't in the right system for a minute because of one or two fleet carriers that showed up and made the navigation tab look different. Then it kinda dawned on me there were some visitors. 😄

Sadly solo is also swamped with carriers. When they are full of Tritium hopefully they will go away.

Thanks all. I feared that would be the case. Between Tritium hotspots turning up all over the place and all the system maps being studded with player FC's with names like 'monkeybottom', last night was my most negative Elite experience for a good while. Mrs Templar was up working so I did an unusually (for me) long stint of six hours until 0230, and didn't get used to them. Mrs Templar even suggested that I switch back to RDR. I'll see if they dilute, but if not then I might take a break. Followup question - what do you guys think, might they be less common in the Bubble? Might have to revisit the whole 'life in Colonia' thing, although the grind of travelling back and shipping everything back might make me think it's the Old West for me in any case. Or try this NMS game people keep mentioning. A filter is a great idea and would solve my reservations at a stroke.

I just like interacting with factions and bimbling around populated stations and docking etc. Can't do that if I move out into the black. I'll give it a few days to settle down but for me they have ruined the game.

I absolutely agree. It looks frankly silly going into a system with dozens of fleet carriers stacked up, and especially with some of the less sensible names.

It is possible to filter them out of the navigation panel, at least, but there isn't yet an option to "Ignore Fleet Carriers" on the system map, where they look like an outbreak of measles at the moment.

I imagine this is partly why the upkeep and decommissioning was introduced! It is wryly amusing to note that Frontier positioned these as items that not every commander would own, due to their high cost :)

Someone posted yesterday there are 3,500 in game already. That's almost 1000 per sector. (of course that wont actually happen, but that just means higher concentrations in the popular areas.) Once the novelty wears off, i figure a lot will get decommissioned, but then there will be uptake from some who can't yet afford one. Once the initial rush is over and people begin to move them out from the purchase area things should settle down a bit.
Haven't bumped into one yet, but it's only a matter of time.

FL_CR's, everywhere...one called TenGreasyPigions is looking to buy coffe at ~13000cr/T, get there and they will only take a few T.
Landed and traded on a few carriers already. The Market is going to be shakey now. Do carrier owners create mission delivery orders?
The trade needs to be commited too on both sides. Glad for the filters in the menus.

Even Colonia is overrun with them (including some daft names). I fear I know the answer to this, but does anyone know whether switching back to Solo from Open would reduce the number of player Fleet Carriers in systems?

Game was very stable for me last night, found some new Void Opal and LTD hotspots, mined in the Cutter, made a lot of cash and on a whim bought and outfitted my first Fer De Lance. Like it, although surprised that the view is both offset and slightly obscured by the canopy, and the jump range is less than I expected, but I like it a lot. Have to do something about my 'Expert' combat rating, so figured that and the Corvette and a Courier would be good additions to my fleet.

Fleet Carriers are like stars in the galaxy you can never escape them.

There is a faint hope that in a while some of them will disperse and others will be decommissioned voluntarily, of course in about 10 to 14 weeks we could be seeing whole rafts of them being decommissioned for insolvency.

As ever, it's as though we're speaking from the same crib sheet. Your idea about having an option on the system map to 'ignore fleet carriers' is golden, I'm going to make my pitch to FD now. Another helpful chap on another thread has walked me through removing them as filters from the maps but they're still visible obviously when looking at the system. Must be comparatively straightforward to remove them from my system maps.

Jaques Station at Colonia has a great long row of them last night, looked ridiculous. I then jumped around to seven other systems with large stations and the lowest FC number I hit was two, and that in a two-bit system I wouldn't usually tarry in. Seven in one place was the worst. With some stupid names. I'm all for others doing what they enjoy, but it has made the game faintly ridiculous and childish overnight, for me. Sorry to have become the old bore of the group. Must be having a tough week.

There are reports of people having issues running Elite after that 2004 W10 update - I have deferred my updates for months just in case.

Hope you don't have the problems, good luck.

So far, so good although, after it completed, there was no sound. Anywhere  A quick reboot sorted that, however. ED seems to be OK so far.

This silly update hardly gives anything useful and took most of the morning to complete - 100mbits download and an M2 SSD for the O/S (n):poop::sleep::rolleyes: Thanks, Microbloat.

In the meantime, I've repurposed the Python to become a miner. A few compromises had to be made over the Cutter, mainly in storage but at least I can land on outposts now.

Python needs thermal tweaks - far too hot scooping.

And I was lasering away and saw the 'roid contained tritium \o/

Then my internet connection collapsed and, after getting back into the triple iLTD hotspot, pirates spawned and wanted my paltry load of 30 diamonds. Hot-footed it out of there, hit SC, "I see all", oh nos, interdicted as the jump countdown started, chase the blue, no, next system, no blue, phew, made it.

"Big haul like that..." oh, for... big haul!?

I'll try again later.

'fleety mcfleetface' 'Monkeybottom'. ''Nickersnuff'. How much is No Man's Sky, and is it any good? That's my current state of mind.

(Caps and spelling are the various Carriers' owners faults - I won't repeat the worse excesses. This is a cancer in the game.)

o
No Man's Sky is very much worth playing, however other players names and the names of their bases and ships are just as stupid there as anywhere else :) You can pretty much avoid seeing them, though.

I'm not super-upset with seeing them in Elite, because I was expecting it. This game is starting to push the multi-player aspects more, and I think Odyssey will continue that trend.

I'm used to seeing dumb names (and behavior) in other games.

I can mostly overlook it. It's either that, or lose the fun the game does have, and that's a lot. I ain't gonna let them ruin my game!

If FDEV could just clean up the system map, and give me filters that turn carrier display on or off, I'd be quite happy.
