Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Damn, if the F-14 Tomcat isn't a sexy plane.

Maybe I'm a sad nerd but that was honestly quite intriguing.
We're all sad nerds here :)

Another interesting fact about Colonia. The first station there, Jaques, is owned and operated by a sentient cyborg, named Jaques (the only sentient AI in ED, I believe). It was he who decided to quit the bubble, and make a long jump with his station to somewhere else (Beagle Point I think but my memory is fuzzy). There was a big Community Goal to deliver enough hydrogen fuel to Jaques station to make the jump.

But, during the jump, there was a malfunction or attack of some kind, no one is quite sure, and Jaques was lost, somewhere in the black. People were waiting for him to arrive, having flown all the way out there to witness it. But he never showed up.

Some months later, though, someone (Commander Cly) found him out there in the void, because they had set their Galaxy Map to show only populated systems and one showed up where it shouldn't have been.

After that, there were CG's to deliver meta alloys to repair the station.

And that was the start of Colonia (it got renamed to Colonia later).

The Wiki has some facts you might find interesting, also. https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Jaques_Station

It's been an interesting part of the game.

I think I just had a PTSD mining flashback.

I didn't realise we could actually blow up asteroids though, and I do like your nerdy love for it, Tyres. Explain, Please.
Ohhh, I can't let this one alone - mainly 'cause I LOVE Deep Core mining and because I'm a total ham.
Tyres has provided a good explanation, here is what a good Deep-Core charge set and detonation looks like:

Cheers!

Nice!

Were you collecting all that material flying off the asteroid?

The material you see flying off at the start is impact debris from the seismic charge hitting the rock and isn't collectable. Those chunks are useless dregs.

Once the 'roid has been suitably slapped into submission, its resources become available for pickup. There may be some bits floating around for your collector limpets to gleefully gather but there will also be chunks of stuff on the fractured rock you fire your abrasion blaster at to remove. There will be indicated by little icons affixed to said rock.

Just made Duke, so celebrated by flipping the T9 for a Cutter... need to think about hard points, so perhaps I could fight instead flying every time something pesky tries to slow down the trading... have literally dodged every fight to date!

Congrats! The cutter is a fantastic ship although it can feel sluggish. It can be fitted with state-of-the-art bang-bangs that will make bad guys stop their grinnin' and drop their linen. The one odd thing, though, is those hard points on the wing tips - not a meta for concentrated fire.

I would go all beam laser and MC with suitable engineering if I was making a combat cutter but that's just my personal preference.

That's kinda what I was thinking regarding limpets. Cargo scooping is such a wrist slasher but I don't suppose mining is so boring if you can automate it.

I'd like to be a Jack of all trades but there are so many modules and I have such little space. You have to focus a little on the activities you'll mostly engage in.

I'm of the "horses for courses" approach. Rather than jack-of-all-trades, I prefer to set up a ship for a particular role.

I was referring to an old 70's British advert that was pretty cheesy even at the time. I'm actually a Londoner enjoying a sleepless night :D
Oh wow. Be safe down there in Chicago East.

And I say that as someone who watched molotov cocktails being thrown across the street from my living room window during the Toxteth Riots when I was 4yrs old. Praying for you, brother.

Yeah, I fit mine for exploring and courier type missions mostly. And being less killable generally.
