ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers Update - Patch 3

What is this tritium trading thing i keep hearing mentioned? How was it a money maker beford and what happened in the patch that screwed it up?

Some stations would sell tritium at a Very low price (like 4k credits per) and then one of two scenarios would happen:

A: Carriers needing refueled or stocked up would park nearby, and set the buy price to, say, 50k-80k per. Quite the profit for gas jockeys.
B: People would take that tritium to another system and sell it for 40k-70k

Dunno how the patch screwed up the trading part, but I wouldn't be surprised. What it did screw up is mining it; for the carriers out in the black, 'buying' tritium is not an option, they have to dig it up themselves.
But they can't, because it don't heccin' appear anymore.

You mine tritium? Why when you could mine LTD at 30-40x the value? I go mine a single quick load of 150-200 LTDs and sell them for 300m or so. Then I buy 7500 tons of tritium and haul it back and forth to my carrier the 7-8 trips it takes.

Tritium mining is so silly at the moment it alone is enough to keep my FC tethered to human space and places that sell tritium. I might fly it to colonia if you can buy trit there, I haven't checked (and actually i think you can store enough in the cargo hold for a round trip flight actually.

FYI that was partly a joke (hence the wink).
NO, I do not want to mine LTD. Frankly I'm sick of hearing about LTD all the time.
I guess I'll just buy tritium at FC/outpost/stations, at least until mining is a little more stable.

So I spent the afternoon mining in two sessions, one in a popular (to judge by the number of carriers parked there) double Painite hotspot laser mining, and the other in HIP 4351 SSD mining (and in principle laser mining also, but, spoiler alert, not so much).

Double Painite first: last week I mined this spot for 395t/hr, this week I got 263t/hr. That's a significant reduction, but I still had a busy, happy hour mining and if - if, I haven't tried it yet - I can sell it for Cr 700k/t, that's Cr 184 million for an hour's mining, which you won't hear me complaining about.

Ah, but LTDs. Amazingly, I actually got a single SSD from both the first and third rock I prospected. And ended up SSD mining at a rate of 72t/hr( 96t in an hour and a twenty minutes). That would still be a fair amount of money if it's ever possible again to have a reasonable chance of getting Cr 1.6m+/hr.

However.

I prospected about 150 (glowing) rocks, and saw three with laser minable deposits of LTDs. The largest such deposit, I think was 8.3%. I didn't bother. I note that other people have had similar experiences.

But what was really grim about my experience was that I had two stretches*, one of sixteen minutes and one of of 33 minutes, in which I found nothing.

Did I have a busy, happy time? The [insert profanity of choice] I did.

Making a gaming activity less profitable is one thing. Making it suck is another thing entirely. Prospecting rock after rock without finding anything is pretty much the epitome of suck.

I heard a restaurant expert say the other day that what restaurants are really selling isn't food, but a pleasurable experience. Doesn't matter if the food's good if the customers don't enjoy being mugged when they leave the restaurant. The same is true of games. No point in fixing the in-game economy if you ruin the in-game experience.

Frontier, please take note.

*Edit: I misread one of the empty stretch timings in my notes. Post now corrected. They're still both a ridiculous length of time for nothing to happen.

Well ... with my carrier on the System Pha Airg YY-S b3-0...in The Formidine Rift .... 6 planets with ice rings ... none with Tritium hot spot ... thank you FD ... it was much more interesting !!! keep it up ... you're on the right track ....

I went to the Col 285 triple LTD hotspot today to try out the mining "rebalancing" from patch 3 today. I entered the hotspot at the point where the 3 hotspots overlap. I did surface mining. I fired a total of 50 prospector limpets and found only 1 asteroid with low temperature diamonds that yielded only 1 ton of the diamonds. I know prior to this patch that the yields were probably too generous but 1 asteroid in 50 attempts seems to be an over correction. If any CMDRS want to validate my findings and post the results here I would appreciate it.

Absolutely confirmed. 156 Limpets in an 3LTD and ZERO. Fair Tritium SSD but no LTD at all. Correcction. 1 11% medium LTD out of 200 linmpets fired. A 0.5% prospecting rate

Just did a test - 96 limpits in the Triple Hotspot, only 1 LTD and it was 3.xx%. Not in the mood to test Tritium, as I have a feeling it will be the same. Such a shame. So many times nerfs applied without proper testing, and then the thing gets totally broke. Guess I will log back in after the next patch. I remember a time when I played Elite every day.

If they need credits to be free and progression to be absent, the game is better off without them.

Wait, are we playing the same game? Progression stopped being associated with credits when engineering dropped. An A rated combat ship is just an easy target now in a CZ or in PvP.

Ive played since release off and on and when I quit playing the last time I had a clipper that was A rated and my multirole ship and an A rated vulture that was my combat monster. When I returned they both felt useless compared to how they were before. I took up LTD mining and got enormous amounts of cash and was able to buy whatever I wanted. It didn't matter much. For them to be really useful I needed to go gather eng mats and guardian mats (which i am still doing).

Looking at your complaints it doesnt seem to me that people actually being able to progress are what you find annoying. Its the change to your sandbox you don't like, specifically the persistent FCs. That was FDevs mistake, the FCs should go offline when the owner goes offline. Leave them visible only to players who have equipment and ships stored on them or bump that equipment/ships to the last station it was stored at. Yes those fixes offer up some small opportunities for exploits around moving ships cheap/free but clearly having 50%+ of the playerbase being persistent on the galaxy/system map is problematic as well.

This half MMO half solo thing is kind of the worst of both worlds sometimes. I put 500+ hours in X3 and loved it in a totally empty (of players) galaxy and I had free reign to mod it as I saw fit. What most of us want in these games isnt an MMO, we simply want coop. Give us 4player coop and mods and players would have been ecstatic. But that would mean you couldn't sell skins for a few bucks a pop or (in the case of SC) sell ships for hundreds of dollars each.

I've just spent an hour in a normally 'reliable' LTD hotspot in Carcosa CD2 - previously a good scattering of cores and 15%+ laser mine rocks.
96 limpets taken, I'd normally expect 2t / limpet here.

Returned with: 20t LTD (all lasered) & 28t Tritium = 48t or 0.5t / limpet
Number of LTD core rock = 0
Number of other core rocks = 0

Best percentage ltd: 24% Worst: 2.5% Average 7.5%

Disappointing 🤷‍♂️

ETA: So I ended up making less than 20 million for my efforts... I would have made more than that in a quarter of the time just ferrying passengers to the beacons in Colonia... Nice one 😭

Man, I was so hyped with the Fleet Carrier Patch, but I could not afford one. Moreover, with the current weather situation it's ridicilous to sit in front of the PC grinding credits for this carrier, so I thought I will do it when the weather is bad again. Having watched the latest Obsidian Ant video about risk/reward credits per hour I think I will wait for the grind until we get an overhaul regarding this issue. Also stopped buying cosmetics from the shop, frustration is way to high to give support, sorry.

I understand that people had too much credits and have everything in the game and get bored - but they can still do a lot of things in this game despite that.

This credit nerf hits the poor people who still don't have a Fleet Carrier and that is so sad.

In the black scouting rings for new hotspots, ironically poor timing now lol, and saw all the posts about this update. So i did a test run in an undiscovered good double ltd, virgin ground. 200 limpets and i plot my way through the field to the next closest hotrock. laser mining seemed a little thin but not out of the range of just a poor run. cores were nice to see again. Hit 3 of them without actually core hunting. Same yeilds. SSD....... So i stopped sampling everything with about 70 limps left and only shot for ssd ltds. 0 zero zilch nada... Not a single one in roughly 100 hotrocks. i ended up with 50t ltd in 3 hours. I dumped my cargo back in the ring cuz i think it needs them more than i do.

My alt is right now in Colonia. According to Inara there are no Stations selling reasonable amounts of Tritium to fuel up a carrier. I tried some lasermining in a double trithotspot an the yield was .... well .... not good :)
Hopefully the markets (bgs) will fix itself about that, otherwise will be kind of a challenge to fill the tank :)

Was the system: EOL PROU VY-R D4-285 10 B ring ?
(just in case: That was another 'reliable' spot)

This is insanity.

Single hotspots were broken a few patches ago. Now Multiple Hotspots are broken too. On top of that, Tritium has evaporated from the galaxy.

Absolutely the most heavy-handed nerf I've seen in a long time. You know I was planning on starting a carrier exploration expedition. I think I'll put that off since I'll be stuck out there trying to find Tritium after my stores are used up.

FS 2020 comes out soon.

Edit: Been testing some more, and getting some better results on Tritium, so maybe not all hope is lost for carriers in the deep.
