Anyone here used to watch the Mission: Impossible series? More than in the movies, they often had those episodes where they'd craft a whole prank just to trick the target into giving up information.

So here's the plan: we capture David Braben in his sleep, he wakes up in what looks like some post-apocalyptic underground bunker and is fed some phony story by a fellow cave dweller about how that's it, space aliens have attacked and Humanity has gone into hiding. As expected, he starts saying something to the tune of "Hey that's funny, i used to create stories with space aliens in them!". Slowly but surely, the team steers him into talking about that old story that will never see its conclusion, and in a cathartic moment he reveals what Raxxla was, where it was and how to reach it. As he turns to his interlocutor, he realizes he's now alone in the room. After a long hesitation he finally ventures past the "warning: radiation hazard beyond this point" door, and finally understands he was in some abandoned warehouse in the countryside. End credits.

I was also thinking about the phrase about the door that’s also the key. What if it means that the door is the key to finding what we seek, we just have to figure out how to open it.
after we find out what the door is of coarse

Yeah I actually dwell on that one too. It lead me to a lot of experimenting, like following Thargoids into their own wormhole with a Thargoid heart and sensor, probe, and link. Thereby making Thargoids both the door and key, by making their systems think I'm part of their ship...no dice on that experiment. I also did some experimenting with literal Ancient Keys lol.

I feel, right now, that key is our own FSD. We need Metadrive modifications and there are undiscovered engineers yet in the game. The key to them, I feel, is getting the Dark Wheel into specific permit systems and having exclusive access to these off-grid engineers.

Or we just say, "thanks!" Usher him over to a door that leads to an ordinary parking lot, in a thriving outside world and send him on his way with a lollipop. Huge "what the- ?" Moment...except we're in pandamic times, so maybe the world isn't exactly thriving, but within spec of the "new norm."

...oh and if we find out the bit about it being an inner journey and that RAXXLA was always there(with us)? No lollipop.

Get your tin foil out....Carter's got a theory....

I have always though of the toast as a pirate treasure map to Raxxla, but what if it is a shopping list for how to impress TDW and get an invite?

Jewel that burns brightest - Ngadandari fire opal
Parents greif/lovers woe - black box? Personal effects?
Whispers/sirens - thargoid heart
Vagabond heart - anyone got any ideas on this one?
To Raxxla - we have to find Raxxla? Or bring them all that and they will help us find Raxxla?

Vagabond heart - hopefully something you steal, to complete the theory.

Ideas/elaboration welcome

Well yes, I see your point, but whispers/sirens would almost certainly be tharg, and I would suspect all the objects to be fairly unrelated, so you need to do different game aspects to get them
Vagabond heart could be elite explorer of course?
Hmm ....is any exact distance to get Elite? Maybe that should be read "go to the mention of whisper" (see Dynasty logs, 1 mention) by distance to get Elite? :D

I always related Vagabond as something tying in to Norse, since the mentioning of Sirens too. But this is also because of a popular Raxxla quote. The day Michael Brookes said that bit about the journey he was wearing an Yggdrasil tree shirt.

Odin was a Vagabond. There is a system called Odin's Wisdom and a region called Odin's Hold. Could be either a very specific or general heading. I doubt it would be as easy as the system.

Do you suppose any if the old Trinkets or Sap 8 cores play in anywhere? It's kind of weird those just suddenly became irrelevant. Trinkets are super rare too.

Makes me think about something i've noticed while decorating my ships recently, which probably means nothing at all: while FDev have named the Trader Elite decal "Elite Trader", the Explorer Elite decal is simply named "Elite", as if it was the one that mattered when talking about Elite cmdrs. I'm only Expert in combat so can't see what the Combat Elite one is named.

I'll take a look. I've been Deadly in combat for about 2 years lol. Combat has never been a real money maker and I think there is stock in the reasoning for that. Maybe it is as you suggest. It is a trade sim after all. In the early days it was easier to climb elite ranks... then it took a severe nerf, at some point. People were hitting triple elite way too fast. Trade was my first Elite, as back in late 2014 cargo missions were the only real money makers. My next was exploration. One trip to the core and another to Colonia was enough for Elite...but I was even late for that. Many were getting elites just after one trip to the core, or Colonia. The combat is largely my fault. I spawned in my fist Sidewinder and couldn't hit sh**. Didn't realize there were gimbals so never bothered to do combat after my first few deaths. Just stuck to what I knew. Didn't really start to engage in combat till about a year later.
