Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

LOL, such innocence.

Not innocence, more likely ignorance. Same crowd that regularly comes up with gems such as "there are no other space games" or "never done before". They have no interest in games outside of their dream bubble and don't have a clue about what games exist, existed, have done before, have struggled with, have tried as remedies or the efficiency spectrum of said remedies.

To be unable to process, in 2020, that a significant amount of players kill other players in games simply because they enjoy it is just amazing.

You may not be aware of the ED forums - you should check them out, as a constant theme is the misunderstanding of PvP vs griefing / ganking ;)

<sigh> this thread is more fun when it's Mole/Sopa/Little etc discussing the actual game, and CiG shenanigans rather than about how the SC forums are full of people as deluded as literally every other forum on the internet

Yes, it's ignorance.
For what I've heard of CIG, they want a pvp system pretty much similar to what Eve Online do with a pvp slider between highsec and nullsec zones. Eve is pretty good at it and I will be happy if they achieve that.
It will certainly be less hardcore than Eve if they success to get the 10/90 PC/NPC ratio.

That's not PvP slider. It's PvP zoning. PvP slider is something else altogether (for example Elite has PvP slider with two extreme positions - Open and Solo - and a set of intermediates between - Groups with various PvP rules). The slider is about the player setting the PvP intensity; not about the game being divided into zones, every major MMO has something like PvP zones in one way or the other.

if they success to get the 10/90 PC/NPC ratio.

They won't.

Looks like tonight a bunch of people are getting set to 0 aUEC. :ROFLMAO:

This is fine, it's alpha-UEC afterall.

Oh boy, someone is in for a treat!! :D
Now Cristopher Robin must finish this game, otherwise the surprise will be ruined!!

I clarify my sentence, I was talking about the slider/cursor/whatever use CCP to determine what a zone give in chance to be attacked by PvP players.

About PvP, a really cool action posted in reddit (1min video).

It's a hammerhead under heavy fire near Port Olisar as seen by a bystander which in fact is not a bystander. He has steel balls 🤘

I see still turrets in space and a really boring space „fight“

Ah, classic PvM - Players vs Money. A.k.a. the totally broken Hammerhead that you need to have at least ten to one advantage of small ships to kill (possibly more) because of its broken shields. I guess its pilot must've been bored, because it totally doesn't need extra gunners - you can just park it, get up and kill enemies one by one while they do nothing to you (IIRC there were shield holes, but CI "fixed them" by making the modules behind them invulnerable?). So "gunner needed" here means "I need to kill them (faster / and can't be bothered to do it myself), somebody do it for me".

That is pure gold.

The Hammerhead is almost dead when the guy in EVA come in. But I haven't posted this video to show how is the balance in an alpha (without surprise bad). It's to show the possibilities of pvp action you can find in SC now. A lonely guy in EVA sneaking in a big ship under heavy fire to give a hand. That's cool stuff.

So if you buy (with real money) some in game cash, it is not available to you in game?
It sounds like those who bought in game cash in the past and had it in game, are now losing it as well.
You do get it in game, it's only starter cash. If you lose it, it's lost, and current persistence will keep it that way. Game bugs, 30K and all will put any investment at high risk of losing everything...

Nobody in the ED forums is saying FD can make changes which will stop people ganking/griefing.

People playing ED are seeing cold hard reality, whereas on the SC forums many are living in dreamland.

There again, Rubbernuke still thinks he might get FD to improve on powerplay :D :D :D

 Wow.I can't believe you think that ... so ... many ... threads ...

:ROFLMAO: Now I know you're trolling me :)

Ok, something we agree on (y)

Funny thing is, in that thread there are people literally pointing out that in EvE people still fly into high sec to make kills knowing full well their ships are going to get destroyed by security.

As for the 10:1 ratio of NPCs to players, that's another fantasy. Not because they can't have that ratio of players to NPCs. They can have NPCs dynamically adjust in spawns if they want to keep the ratio, although they might want to think more carefully about this. If the servers already groan under the weight of tens of players and having to communicate beetween them, increasing the number of NPCs in relation to the number of players is going to massively increase overhead. If anything, the number of NPCs should reduce with more players.

However, i'm not calling it fantasy because of that. Its because part of the 10:1 thing is about NPCs being indistinguisable from players, which is just laughable. Pure fantasy.
