Question for Open players who don't like PVP/ganking... help me understand

This has been extensively discussed and no, it will not work.
If there was something t9 that would work FD would have implemented. Game is 6 years old now and nothing changed.
IIRC FD was warned even in the pre-launch phase about clogging.

Get over it.
It's a direct cause of the networking model employed by the game.
A model designed to be cheap so FD can offer something along the lines of a Online Experience without resorting to subscriptions and/or ingame micro-transactions.
Yes. Here's my recipe for making clogging videos:

Play ED on a laptop with enable/disable WiFi button.
Engage another player in combat.
Start recording video.
Press the button.
Watch him fly in a straight line and then vanish.
Upload video to YouTube and report him to FD.

Given human nature I'd be astonished if this isn't already done. Bear it in mind next time someone quotes video evidence of clogging.

Welp, what can I say? I've been out-logicked here by a true genius. Win some, lose some, eh?

Have you played this game before? Just asking, because there are many obvious things that absolutely work that FDev can implement and have not. Balancing shield boosters, eliminating transfer times, buffing hull tanks, incentivized open play, etc. Simple, basic game balance or quality-of-life issues.

No.

They are profitable enough to maintain servers without adding arx to the game and breaking it in the process, or as you call it "ingame micro-transactions." At this point, it's just too big a job for them to rewrite the game I guess. Regardless, the fact that their architecture can't prevent cheating scumbags from clogging doesn't preclude them from implementing consequences. If people cry about it, let them. It will improve the immersion and gameplay quality across the board, so they'll get over it.

Then come to play ED on XB.
I heard MS is actively punishing cloggers - by adding a timer when they try to reconnect to the game after a clog.

But you'll have to pay €8 per month for this privilege.

The log-off while in danger, I completely agree with.

But if you can come up with a way to stop players who rack up huge bounties, just so their mates can cash them in, then the 2M cap will probably be removed.
The attacking player cannot collect the bounty if the "victim" is any or all of the following:

  • Is on their friends list
  • Is in their wing
  • Any of the above has occurred in the last 6 months.

This is the best I can think of right now. If it works, lift that damn bounty cap for the love of all that is good and holy

This won't work. You'll see them drift in a straight line for a few seconds but then YOU will vanish, not them. I just double-checked. Just because it sounded ridiculous didn't mean it wouldn't work, FDev style. If you toggle, there's a chance you may de-instance, but then of course the player would still be in-game. This is a regular occurrence in PVP and easy to check.

Sounds ideal. I'm paying for Xbox Live, but I don't have Elite on it. Actually don't remember the last time I played Xbone... Maybe I should stop paying for it!

Friends list sniping is the only real viable way of tracking someone to hunt their bounty in the game as it currently exists, though... And there's a good chance that any PVPer will have wound up in a wing with any other at some point in a given period. I think having the bounty come out of the "bad guy's" pocket does it well enough, as Jellicoe said.

Facetiousness level reached successfully.

Good, I was doing my best to reach the same levels of absurdity I read to in the previously porposed changes, which would only serve as a death sentence to open. :D

How about not changing anything, and not ruining the game for either the lawful PvE players and the outlaw PvE players?

My point is, you won't "vanish" on your own screen. Yes, they see you vanish; you also see them vanish. Actually both may be able to make a good clogging video.

There's some uncertainty about when your client will feel disconnected and stop running.

Everyone, pretty much, who has read it.
Keep in mind that SDC who wrote this proposal is the most notorious gank squad the game has known.

The proposals were from 'your' side such as there is one. Maybe suggest why theyre absurd, after all you appear to be in the minority from the other comments quoted?

Isn't the game quitting to the menu when you lose connection? And no one vanishes?
Well, of course I've never actually DCed deliberately in combat. :) But at other times I've had the client keep running for minutes after a network disconnection I wasn't immediately aware of, until the next instance change, so I think my recipe is sound. I'm sure it will have been tried.

Elaborations can be found in the last 5-6 pages, already did it twice. People counter-arguing me had plenty of time to read up on it, since nobody really disproven my points, I'm taking it as common ground. 🤷‍♂️

I have played nothing but OPEN play since I rediscovered the game back in 2015 (old C64, 1985-88 Elite player). I have never been Ganked by an actual human player (PvP). Wait, I take that back, once a few years ago some CDR squashed my little sidewinder after leaving a stations protective bubble. Anyway, I have played for 5 years now, and besides a couple of flypasts, the kid that ganked me, the only time I have INTERACTED with a human player was last night, doing the grind to rank up to LORD. I and two other chums were all doing the same thing, and the bases we were going to only had 1 medium landing pad. Lots of waiting. I got frustrated and actually had a thought to smoke ol CDR Cpt K1ll (the kid who was holding up the landing process). But I declined to my urges and went to another place looking for other fun. I like it open, but I seem to be the exception when it comes to interaction with human beings. I don't see a lot of them.
