Question for Open players who don't like PVP/ganking... help me understand

I think maybe you are just deliberately trying to be awkward rather than actually engaging in a reasonable conversation.
Maybe....50/50 chance. I'd go with it though. I believe reasonable conversation with you has long left the building and it has become a lesson in futility.
Honestly don't even know what they are, but okay
Neither do I but you commented like you did 👇
I can appreciate the skill in that, it can be very easy to pop a newbie by accident

I'm not sure I could break it down further without coming across as patronising.
You can try but I think it's too late.

Honestly don't even know what they are, but okay :)
Cytoscramblers. Archon Delaine powerplay weapon. A small burst laser with short range, high jitter, high fire rate, and boosted damage, but only 1 AP. It does the same DPS as a huge hardpoint laser against shields, but has such low AP it's harmless against hull even on a sidewinder.

My pirate challenger runs three of them, combined with a pair of packhound racks for taking out drives once the shields are down.

how else do you learn? How did the 'best' learn?

I play with friends and we do things together. If ganking happens either we do it or we get it so be it.
Well, getting endlessly killed time after time from single shot by something you couldn't even see coming is certainly a way to learn, I suppose.

You can play with friends in PG, what is the advantage of Open in that case? Or you and your friends just enjoy being murdered? Certainly a possibility!

Jokes aside, say, new player jumps in, gets blown up few times, gets his "learning experience", then if he/she doesn't want to become a ganker or do not want to run combat ship 24/7, the biggest thing they learn is... what exactly? Open is pointless?...

Fair enough. I don't have any powerplay stuff. So why don't all the gankers use these? Is it because they aren't really concerned about whether their victim actually learns anything useful at all? I'm guessing it is ;)

I'm not sure your angle then. So FDev needs to break it down Barney Dino style for everyone? Gankers need to play nice? Participation trophies for all? I don't understand. I am not even very skilled. I understand the basic tenets of the game including getting into it in open.

As it is said, this isn't the cub scouts

Well you could use cytoscramblers. Do you have those?

Because contrary to your belief (and you've been told countless times) not every victim is a noob with an E rated vessel or unarmed. If you want to jump in the ring with Ali, better learn to box right? Rhetorical and wasting my time with you really because you'll have some excuse and deflection for it.

I could do lots of things. I play the way I want remember. Isn't that your basis for every argument? And yet you seem to be rather annoyed by people who play the way they want and label them, how do you put it? Bitter?

And no I don't have them as I already noted that...Remember what you said about responding to posts without reading?

I'm not sure I am. I don't think you have been reading most of my posts, and are blinded by loyalty rather that rationally engaging with those that hold views other than your own.

Play how you like ;)
Colonia Jesus Christ if that statement isn't dripping with irony I don't know what is.

Thank you for granting me free will ;)

You asked a bunch of questions, I gave a suggestion. This is how conversations go, normally. You seem hostile to new ideas.

Well, they're great for dropping shields and pair very well with phasing, but they have a maximum range of 1km. Not that it matters because with their high jitter, once you're past the falloff range you'll be lucky to hit any smaller ships with them. Definitely a weapon for use against larger vessels.
And while their sustained DPS is good, their alpha-strike potential is still beaten out by frags.

There's also the issue that if you run into another PvPer out there and you're only packing cytos, you're gonna have a bad time. They're very good at what they do, but what they do isn't your typical PvP match. I have surprised people with them before though. Phasing cytos on an agile ship can be very nasty against people that skipped hull day.

Yes I get the issue with fighting other PvPers. But the cyto fitted 'teacher' could just boost towards their attacker & high wake, right? Seems like a pretty viable approach, if teaching lessons is the goal ;)

Well, I broke down my "angle" a few times before. To go over it again, avoiding confusion:
Account based C&P you cannot get rid of that easily, higher Notoriety for player kills, no ability to swap good/bad guy ships, criminal being hunted by highly engineered units, calling cops working, sending something more than fodder and sooner to help out one being ganked, maybe even some specifc units in anarchy systems, if target is too notorious. All in all, make ganking and piracy a dedication, with serious consequences.

And most importantly, ditch whole freaking engineering with idiotic flat buffs for damage/hull/shields. Have experimentals with serious drawbacks. Ditch stupid mil. module stacking, rebalance weapons, make certain systems viable, shake up the meta. At the same time, make waking away harder, increase mass lock range or something, get rid of submission, increase FSD recharge. But all of this won't make much of a difference if people would still be able to clog and block...
