Predicting what might be included in a possible free 1 Year Anniversary update

Does the potentional anniversary has to be 1.4 patch though? Why could it not be 1.3.5 with then 1.4 releasing with next dlc?
Was the Planco anniversary update numbered as the next big update?

Or it's just a major bugfix thing...like the trash bug or some of the others
Right. 1.3.2 and 1.3.3, if you go back and look at each changelog, already addressed quite a bit. I would not expect 1.3.4 to change more than 5-6 things, mostly things on the smaller side at that.

Which is something that Frontier would probably push out as soon as they have a stable fix for a few.

I hope for for any animal before the end of the year. Payed or not.

It's almost a guarantee that there will be another DLC before next year. Whether we get anything on the anniversary or not is up in the air, because really it hasn't been that long since the Australia Pack, but there's bound to be something to take advantage of those Steam Christmas sales.

And you all no what? While I still feel uncomfortable asking for something for free (because that's how I am)
I kinda understand but in a way it isn't exactly free. I paid a lot of money to frontier for this game (pre-ordered it). And honestly in some ways it is kinda lacking. If you compare the price with for example Planet Coaster when it was released. In my opion both games werent perfect when they got released but PC had some great free updates. Wich made the game worth more than I paid for it. Planet Zoo on the other hand, I dont feel like is spend to much money on it. In my opion its a fair price. However, when I bought the game I kinda expected a PC scenario. You get an incomplet game but within the year the game feels complete. This was the case for PC, however from PZ I expected more. More animals to be honest. Like we had to pay for an Polar bear and a Kangaroo. Which are such iconic zoo animals. I at least expected 2 - 3 animals being added to the roster. I do not see them as free upgdrades. I see them as rewards for completing the game.

Therefore I don't feel bad for thinking about free updates cus in my opinion we all paid a lot of money for a game. However, I wont be sad if we never get new animals with each patch. I just be a bit disapointed cus I expected it from a company like Frontier.

ps. this is no hate. I am gratefull to have bought the game. It was just a bit of reality versus expectation. And the expecation was based on Planet Coaster so I don't feel like it was such a wrong expectation.

Yes it was.
As soon as content is added to the game (like a DLC), the version number goes from 1.1.2 to 1.2 (example).

At this moment, I'm not expecting a anniversary update to be honest which would be a shame.

But I would be very pleased with anything if we get a anniversary update (hopes for something like an educator/guide/entertainer).

Thanks for info. So I guess it is unlikely that we would get both anniversary update and a DLC as 1.4 (I guess it would be too soon after Australia, and I doubt that anniversary update would be 1.4 with folowing 1.5 as DLC right after that).

Quick question: When does a version get to 2.0 ?
Whatever the developers (or marketing team) decide justifies being called a major update. It usually implies more than just adding new content and bug fixes. More like changes in game play, overhaul of some game mechanisms or completely new mechanisms. Since everybody is speculating about swimming animals - that definitely would be considered a major update, literally bringing the game to a new level (2.0).

Or when they are running out of numbers. What comes after 1.9 if not 2.0?

1.10

Planco's last update was 1.13.2

Definitely a sequel, at the very least a large improvement, but does it have to be?

Seems to be right... Click

Though I must admit, I find @Jeliahs description more logical.
I think that 2.0 is almost never used, unless in reference to a sequel version. So PZ 2.0 is just PZ2
Minecraft for example, one of the largest and most popular video games of all time, just recently announced their big annual update, the Caves and Cliffs update. This will become update version 1.17 of the game. And they too have smaller updates to do things like add a little bit of content or fix bugs. For example, I'm pretty sure the most current version is 1.16.4

Hope this clears it up a little for everyone :)

Based on the precedent set by the 1-year anniversary update for Planet Coaster, and the fact that such an update wouldn't preclude a final paid DLC before the year's end... I think we might get one. Maybe 3 "new"/unique animals along with 2-3 that are relatively new re-skins. Along with a new (relatively big) feature or two. And probably some scenery items, new foliage, etc. As far as features go, I'm thinking it doesn't need to be anything as complicated as adding aviaries or whatever. Something as simple as making more items re-colorable would add a ton more flexibility to the game as far as creativity goes.

While an update like this would be "free" for those of us who already own the game, there's a potential financial benefit for releasing something for free if it's stuff that's big enough or requested enough that it will:
  1. Encourage more people to buy the game! This is an obvious one, and I can think of a few features and animals they could add that could bring more people in (e.g., meerkats and otters, penguins, seals or sea lions, some sort of aviary set)
  2. Keep content creators on Twitch and YouTube streaming content focused on the game (with every DLC most of the content creators have commented about the lack of animals and each seem to have a short list of features that could be added to really up the game's value)
  3. Keep your average player playing the game more, which would result in more paid DLC purchases down the line
I don't expect anything for free, and I'm completely willing to pay for whatever they release. But I really do think there's a financial rationale for them to release a free update with a significant amount of content. So it's "free" but in a loss leader sort of way...

If you release a relatively big, free update and announce that there's a final DLC coming in December? Then sales for that DLC will be up too, if people are feeling super positive about the game at that point, and if the DLC focuses on some of the new features added in that free update.
