Pulse Wave Scanner Works...Backwards

Then you are too fast for the PWA. Use the Cassiopeia-effect if you are the fantasy type of guy (Master Hora's turtle in Momo from Michael Ende). If not, and you rather look for a technical explanation: The PWA has an increased processing time now, which perfectly would explain these 'backward' effects. This happens very rarely to me, most likely due to the methods I use (mining in a small and slow ship could be a clue...)
Right. I'm not the "fantasy type of guy" at all. I just pretend to fly through space mining asteroids, fighting pirates and stuff in my imaginary space ship. ;) So, I'm wondering about the new "increased processing time" on the PWA. I'll have to look at that again. I have sat for 15 minutes at a time (testing) pinging away at a group of asteroids in front of my ship, then flew past them, turned around a ping them again only to see them glow. So, I don't understand the new increased processing time thingy on the PWA. Why didn't FD explain this to us?! Very un-helpful!

I would not count on, or put any hope, in FDEV fixing Core Mining (VOs to me, which is all I mine), be it the PWA, Field Generation, Asset loading, etc.,. it's exactly as they want it, trust in that. Their entire goal was to greatly lessen the money being made Core Mining, and they have accomplished their goal. One of the few development teams that I've ever seen that punish their players, with the absolute intention to do so. I had never even heard the term "Nerf" until I started playing Elite Dangerous! Sad and bizarre, really.

It seems you speak truth on this matter. Of course, I'd go for fewer opportunities to hit "pay dirt" in core mining, but don't break the tools, you know?

I like this reply as it makes me think it may be always as you, or I found it or it is really a perception thing? and No! I don't mean perception is reality!

We all perceive things differently-

Watch this Cmdrs 46 second reality, I think this is pretty self explanatory, for him anyway.
It does do this when I repeat his actions though.

Not good with links, deal with it.... :)

If I spend around 3 to 5 hours Core Mining, even in my usual "Low" reserve spot, I can fill my Krait MKII 128t + 6 in the Hopper. This nets me a little under $200M for the day. IT has become harder, for sure. Less VO Cores, or maybe just not hitting on them if they are really there? Don't know, but, it still works, it's a pain, a grind, take MANY breaks while doing it, but it's the only real way I know to make money. I have not tried Laser Mining yet. Maybe this is more profitable? I have 20 ships, and to engineer those ships is FAR more than enough work of mat grinding. Last thing I want to worry about is being able to make enough money to upgrade my ships. My Cutter and Vette alone are server hundred million credits investments, with the Cutter probably over a Billion. FDEV certainly makes you live up the the name "Elite", that's for sure. The biggest kick in the butt was them removing the backup trick to reset an asteroid. This certainly wasn't hurting anyone and was helping people make the credits they needed to buy and outfit ships. Was not a "cheat", just a nice little bonus to use so you didn't need to spend hours and hours looking for Cores. Of course, those that have already taken advantage of this, made their money and outfitted all their ships, well to them, it's all good. Put them a leg up on the comp!

I can do that to, I just don't have that amount of time to spend in game.

The point is - how impotant/important is meaningless (real world) credits to you except to advance you a bit in a game. People play at their own rates of play. It only matters if you let it matter.

The fact is though that, as a device, although an ** imaginary device it does not work like it used to, as a scanner that scans maybe in the directioon that you may be pointing in at any given time.

I still play so I may be the Impotent/important part that I earlier described.

It's the only way I know how to make some real credits, and credits for ship modules is very important. In about a week, I am going to need like a $Billion$ credits to purchase Prismatic Shields, so credits is critical. Plus, I also have probably 10 ships sitting just waiting to get upgraded. I have 2.4 Billion credits now and if I tried to "A" Rate those ships, I would quickly be out of credits, very very quickly. I do have modules I can swap between ships, but this is not ideal. I like to have all my ships outfitted and not have to resort to swapping modules, again, also to mention the purchase of Prismatic soon. So yeah, we're not talking real money here, ha!, but we are talking the ability to outfit and purchase PP items and "A" Rated modules. So yeah, it matters. I have almost 2,500 hours, real in game hours of my life, invested in this game. The harder FDEV makes things, the more I am thinking of leaving Elite for good. And, I just formed a Squad in hopes of diving even deeper into this game's BGS. BY the way, if anyone is interested, need players in my Squad! Come checkout Logic Corp. and join! 😁 (shameless plug)

I could reproduce this 'backward effect' a few times, but most of the times it simply doesn't work for me. Whatever I see glowing after a 120° turn is usually what I already scanned in forward flight. Everything else, especially why this is so differently with other people I really don't know and all based on speculations. Take my explanation attempts as an offer of a thesis, but not as a fact.
Usual thing was/is to keep "entry point" in target and just fly straight there, which allows to avoid duplicate scans. Current PWA seems working different. I get best results if I fly perpendicular to this line +/- 90 then a bit ahead to. But this rises chance to scan same rocks twice. Also this slowdowns.

So, I started Core mining at noon and just returned to the station with 192t of Core at 4pm. I got as much VO as normal and since I was using a Clipper, I was able to pick up some LTD as well. Not once did I need to fly backward, upside-down, or do anything odd. I will say, 4 hours is a long time to Core mine or do anything to make money in this game, but it's actually a little less time than it would have taken me normally, to just get 128t of VOs. So, is the PWA still broken? This haul should NET me about $200M+, in 4 hours. Gotta be faster ways, but does show the PWA does work, right? I found Cores, and found them in a "Low" reserve system ring. I am not trying to brag, trust me, I wish there was a way to make more money faster that 4 hours, but it is what it is, a working grind. I am going to go sell this and try the Robigo passenger missions, which I understand is about $100M an hour. I'll see, going to outfit the Python for this. Hopefully, it works and I never have to Core Mine again! I have better ways to use 4 hours of my life!

Not bad for something that doesn't work?

Well, good for you! I just wanted to do some mining, since I got a good haul a few days ago (plus I wanted to help out a new player as well). Well, lo and behold... NO asteroids are lit up after using the PWS. None. At. All. I though something must be wrong, so I pop into the forums and find this thread. I turn around, scan, and all those asteroid light up like crazy. The bug's clearly there.

Don't even try to reason with this guy, Shaamaan......Red House thinks just because it didn't happen for him, that we're all hallucinating and making this up. He enjoys trolling this board and irritating people with his, "HEY I CAN DO IT....you can't...nah nah nah nah nah......"

Well, congratulations CMDR Red House on your phenomenal mining haul! The pictures were a great touch as well!

We all know you're not "trying to brag" - as a matter of fact, you brag smoothly, effortlessly, and with a natural aplomb rarely matched. So sublime!

The PWA is still not working as it did prior to the September update, which has been verified by many other players and by Frontier Developments. The PWA works to some degree, and if you're devoted enough to mining, you can simply "work around" the PWA malfunction. We're all hoping for it to come up for "restoration" eventually.

I only core-mined for a couple of hours in the last day or two, and did nowhere as well as Red House did demonstrating such god-like mining prowess, but even going through my new PWA spin and ping maneuvers, I think I did pretty well. It was fun!

Back to the grind.

Be safe out there, Commanders.

It works. You just have to be patient and know how to work with it. Just saying. Haters will hate. I am willing to point out how I make it work but everyone wants to spew on me. Fine. Out. Good luck 😉👍

Tennozan, one thing I will say... in many locations, that are marked as Major or even Pristine Reserves, I have the same bad luck with the PWA. So, no it doesn't work for me in many locations as well. I spent over an hour in a "Pristine" ring with a HUGE VO HS, and nada. Not ONE hit in the entire hour of trying. I moved back to my old "Low Reserve" location and the hits were about one asteroid every 5 to 10 minutes, and out of those probably a third were Brom or Alex and not VO, or they were LTD, which I decided to go ahead and take since my Clipper doesn't have as much fuel as my the Krait I normally use. So, it was take LTD and VO or keep trying for VO and run out of, possibly, fuel. Anyway, I have put VO's on the back burner for now and decided to do the Robigo / SOTHIS passenger missions and MUCH BETTER! I tried it last night, in my Python, and made $50 Million credits in about 24 minutes (3 runs), two jumps, a quick scan of the beacon and 2 jumps back to Robigo and cash in. WAY better, but less fun, than Core Mining, for sure! And that, nearly, $50M in 24 minutes can be done over and over and over again, all day. You could have a FC in two days easily. And I took my time, if you got this down to a fine art, you could make that $50M in even less time.

If anyone is interested, here's a link to the Python build I use, mine is not 100% the same, as I have a Guardian FSD Booster since I did not have all the mats I needed to fully ENG my FSD but will pull one from another ship. So, I am actually minus a cabin in the Class 4 slot, so could have made way more and I run a Class 3 Shield generator, down another cabin.

You're so bitter. Jeez dude. It's a game man. Easy ;) Play some NMS until they fix your PWA, and dry those tears, turn that frown upside down. It'll be OK, really, trust me. :)

So how do you explain many of us that have our own personal honey hole far out in the black that were working perfectly fine the first week of September and before that for several years, and then all of the sudden stopped working on September 8th after a patch. Guess it's all just a big coincidence, right? You crack me up with your utter nonsense. It was working, and now it's not. Thus, why we have this thread...and thus why this is one of the most voted on issues on Frontier's issue tracker. Do you get it yet?

I don't disagree with you dude, and yes, it most certainly doesn't work as well as it did before that update. I've been saying that, but I also say it still does work. It's kind of like an old TV you have to give a little smack on the side to get the picture to come in better. How do YOU explain that I made $225 Million yesterday if it doesn't work, is a better question? Would you like me to video myself Core Mining and you can see what I see? You'll see that yes, it's a PITA to find Cores, totally agree, but I find them and there's no reason you can't either. Unless, maybe you need to purchase a new PWA, or are you playing on something other than a PC? There could be a few things you could do to help your PWA issue. First thing I'd do is buy a new one, could be as simple as that, just swap out for a new one. Could be you're an XBOX or PS4 player and they have a bigger PWA issue? Don't know, but man, you're like deadly serious with your anger on this, as much as I am with my saying it works! Meet me in game and let's wing, I'll take you on a Core hunt and it would be interesting if you see the same things I see. Also, I use a TrackIR, so I can scan as much around me as possible. Without it, I am sure I would miss a lot of Cores that are off to the side, below me, whatever, but try a head tracker and gain more scanning range. But, nothing is going to help with your anger until FDEV makes your PWA do what, I guess, it did for you before their update. Please note, they are not :(

I take it you're the kind of guy that would buy a Mercedes and if the air conditioning went out or the brakes intermittently malfunctioned, or the steering wheel pulled to one side, you'd just say "Hey, what's the problem?...I can STILL DRIVE....woo hoooo!!!" Yes, it's just a game, and not the end of the world. It's just irritating that you (and really only you) have been totally condescending to any of us that enjoy the game the way we always played it, and now so obviously doesn't. We know it's a bug, you know it's a bug, the entire Elite community knows it's a bug. Surely, even you can understand the angst, even if it is seemingly insignificant to you. Thanks for the invite for the wing, but think I'll stick with GTA 5 Online, Factorio and 2K21 golf until Frontier fixes this. Flying around and doubling back on myself is a waste of time.....I have more than enough credits for 10 lifetimes, and have every ship in the game max-rated. I simply enjoy blowing up Cores as relaxation and it's stupid to have to zig-zag and do stupid tricks to get the PWA to work.
