Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Heard on chat that an FC was going to depart and wanted to watch it (first time for me). Was hoping for some big lightshow but it just kinda blacked out and I couldnt see anything until I toggled night vision. And I was worried that if i got in the way I would get smashed.....

......

It is really very VERY poorly done. Rubbish really, look at this and see when the "fog" disappears:

... embarrassing really.

Working on combat rank in the same RES for weeks, half way there now!...

Feeling the need to do a lot of Painite mining over the next 4 days...

Had just refitted the Clipper as a miner, and idiotically put 1D mining lasers in - which led to upping my eddb game, and searching for fleet carriers offering 2D modules, and then afters to find carriers paying decent rates for Painite (saving the need to jump away and back again). Definitely smarter than my previous approach of docking at a FC, swearing, then going to the next one...

Hmm. It's quicker to jump 500lys in my Phantom than it is for my carrier. Not a complaint by any means, just an observation. Perhaps the carrier jump range ought to be extended to 1,000lys :D

And my avatar is back to big knickers :D
No your Phantom is the scout it should travel the carriers maximum jump range faster after all it needs to be able to check out the destination system for suitability (room to park, fuel sources) before you commit the carrier.

I am not sure it ever got round to changing on my main compute.

So mining gets a big nerf, eh?

They want Core mining to pay more than laser mining, they say.

And yet, they are not going to fix the PWA before making these changes, which means us players will be testing the changes with broken gear.

I mean, FD doesn't always make sense in what they do, but...isn't this beyond stupid? Or am I missing something?

It’s funny cos I was just getting round to mining with LTDs were bombed, hence Painite mining (which I find more fun than I expected).

I do think it makes sense Core mining should be more rewarding than laser mining, but hope it’s not just through borking lasers so it’s just a more krap mining avenue than core...

And maybe they’ve got a PWA fix in there too (or a rear view mirror for a gazillion ARX 🤣)

Where are you seeing this, Codger? Ah... found it

Yep. And yet we know it has to be a nerf to laser mining, perhaps coupled with a slight buff to Core mining (and other things). No way are they going to raise everything else to the level of current laser mining.

In order to balance the various earning methods, they'll have to attempt to raise the lowest while lowering the highest.

So what we will wind up with is multiple ways to earn less than mining earns now. That's if they do it right.

More likely they'll just shuffle things around and then players will discover new ways to make huge credits by doing something FD didn't anticipate.

You know, like it's always been :)

Crossed from the Arcadian Stream into the Trojan Belt without mishap and almost immediately jumped into a jackpot system, 4 WW, (one ringed), 1 ELW, and an assortment of HMC's and rocky bodies including Bio poi's.(Bark mounds). The system has already been thoroughly explored, so i wont get first discovered, but even so, it should still be worth a fair amount of credits when (if) i get them home. For some reason, only the first bio registered for the credit bonus, even though i have been careful not to scan them sequentially, (this bug also occurs with geo poi's of the same type even on different planets in different systems), but even so it will still be worth a fair amount. And because i am in a new sector, i am picking up a lot of 50k bonuses with more to come.Next stop is the nebula which i have come to explore.

If they nerf laser mining - for instance, painite - I hope they don't damage tritium yields: they're already on the low side IMHO.

Anyway, on a lighter note, I took a quick sojourn in the Heart Nebula and very pretty it is there too. In a barren sort of way. Even the bark mound site I found on this planet looked desolate:

Yes quite. I never seem to find the time for any mining other than laser, so if they make that not worth the time sink I'll likely just stop mining for a while. There's so much money in exploration and combat, these days, that if the time consuming tasks don't pay as much FD risk people simply stopping them altogether. I wish that FD hadn't broken the economy a while back, in the first place. Now that mining has been overly powerful in terms of credits and other things have raced to catch up, it's rather too late to effect a course correction. Plenty of us are now rich (I'm a wasteful commander, but if ever I want some credits I jsut take a couple of massacre missions and there's another 100m) so it smacks rather of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted to me.

Yes, painite mining is - at the moment, anyway - quite lucrative. My last sale was for ~1mCr per unit in a high-demand system. Which was nice.

My one hope - at the risk of sounding like a scratched record and beating that poor horse again - is that they make tritium mining easier. And by that, I mean more prevalent: and perhaps extremely cheap and purchasable from all sorts of stations.

I don't mind a more risk-versus-reward strategy but at least let us fuel our carrier more readily.

Of course, this is just my opinion and it's conpletely open to being thoroughly critiqued and hit with the Flaming Rod of Au Contraire (INT +10, WIS +10).
