Viajero asked me 3 times this question. My answer of no value (written clearly) was just to please him.

Just so we do not get lost in the flow here, the original point was to try and show that this kind of "hopes" and guesses, more often than not unfulfilled, are a dime a dozen:

If the river tech is ready before Pyro release, perhaps they will push some lava rivers on it.

Hold on....

If the river tech is ready before Pyro release, perhaps they will push some lava rivers on it.

So LA basically was saying they could release Pyro without lava rivers. Its not a blocker.

Which then totally undermines his responses to me about it being a reason not to release other systems.

Oh what a tangled web we weave!

What gameplay mechanics or story function would lava rivers even bring?

Perhaps SQ42 has a moving pivotal scene where some unfortunate Commando has been horrifically mutilated and left for dead in exactly such an environment - and lava rivers of cinematic fidelity are required to bring-to-life this never-done-before moment of Sci-Fi greatness from the mind of Genuine Roberts!

People would be able to replay the scene from the Star Wars prequel.

Remember, death in SC one day could result in your character losing limbs and stuff.

Its a clear lead into people becoming dark lords of the Sith.

Cast your mind back to the kickstarter speech.

"When i was a wide eyed teenager watching Star Wars..."

Oh dear... but if they have loading screens backers won't be able to brag about the game not having loading screens!!!!
Star Citizen already has loading screens. The official patch notes have often referred to the prison transition (entering/exiting it) as being a loading screen.

"It was said that you would destroy the sith, not - wait, I have to drink or I'd die of dehydration". Citizen Kenobi switched off his lightsaber and reached for his flask. After that he removed his helmet and suddenly gained asphyxiation status effect. This unexpected development caused him to fumble and he dropped both his flask and his helmet into the lava river.
That day the Galactic Stimpire was born.

From that scene until the end was the part of Revenge of the Sith!

Am I being TOO cynical to wonder if they've tried to add something as simple as a jump to a new system and found it just drops the servers/30ks every time? So they've just abandoned it for now?

Nah. Nah.

Possibly.

More or less yeah, since you get transported to another location instantly, but overall it works like most lifts in the game - when you are inside, the "outside world" gets unloaded then new assets get loaded, and the enclosed space masks the uglyness of that process. Depends of your definition of a "loading screen" really, you still run the main game engine the whole time. Used to be that "loading screens" were turning off the main game loop entirely, and show a static image (with a loader hint or whatever) while the next section of the game was loading. It's been a thing of the past with streaming assets - still even full streaming games like CP2077 break out from the main loop briefly when they run special sequences (in the case of CP2077 that would be Johnny's flashbacks). Can be argued that most MMOs out there have no loading screen at all, i dont recall Eve Online having any for instance (the jump gates act to mask transitions).
What SC cultists mean i guess is "zero transition" but that's a clear lie, as there are definite map transitions (most lifts save the main one on Levski, and that prison teleport).
FWIW Elite II Frontier had zero transition. I can even cite Amiga's Starglider II which had a complete system with planetary surfaces, and yes underground tunnels too, and zero transition. That was in 1988.

What the hell. Spectrum actually has a modding sub-forum. And it’s active...

Well... it was one of the many Kickstarter promises Chris Roberts made, and then never bothered to follow through.

It doesn't stop CIG from selling a modding manual, though...
