I spent an hour in Eta Cassiopeiae performing the same search routine I did in Sol. After a while I slowed down and tried opening/closing the Orrery System Map close to a 100 (maybe 200) times. Eventually I observed the same "glow" effect from Sol, but instead of green it was black. Here's the clip:

I also noticed that much like in Sol I was being disaplaced, though at a different angle. There were no asteroid belts in this system.
If you play the video in slow motion you will notice that 'black glow' happens every time you go into system map. It is actually visible before the map comes up. I believe this to be the 'shadow' of the opening/closing map

Now we need to go back to the pre ious videos to look for the same thing

In IRH Discord Yuki Estelle has observed the “black glow” but can’t post a vid of it at present, but has pix.
 
That’s what first piqued my interest when Koben mentioned it. There are of course the mythical “asteroid clusters”, when your position jumps 15 sectors around the belt according to the orrery view, but they only show up on the hud hologram. They aren’t in-game in practice. You can’t target them and drop out into their instance. Now why is this? I know they are, IRL, very thinly dispersed, but FD have created asteroid belts/rings in other systems and put asteroids there that you can mine/visit/crash into. So why not put some into Sol’s asteroid belt as a nod to reality? My suspicious mind said “ahah”! Probably because there’s something hidden there so they don’t want people to keep dropping in to visit. I started to circle around the belt trying to locate the presence of those mythical clusters, then I started to observe the green glows......
If they treat it as a ring around planet then the forge would make it so diffuse that it would not have any asteroids. Many planets have these huge rings that don't have anything but dust visual effects in them.
This whole thing with Sol feels broken/heavily unfinished, not on purpose tbh.

Just checking out the Independent Raxxla Hunters Discord.
Spliffz had a green glow that illuminated his ship.

And had another that lit his cockpit interior.

So perhaps these glows are more common than we thought but not all are lighting the cockpit. Moreover this was lit by a light source external to the ship!

Wow this is huge turn of events! Did more people check if green glow appears at Titan station as one of us mentioned here?
 
This looks like a shader bug to me. In the very first picture the lighted areas don't make sense; the light seems to come from behind and above the ship.
But that does not explain why the forward/side edges are tinted green, too. This would require two light sources or indirect lighting. Also the other pictures show areas which are tinted green, but surrounding areas are not. Also the green glow is not always that lush green, in the posted videos I've seen that it sometimes is a more yellowish tint.

I mean, there obviously is a light (which is not the sun), but if the shader code is wrong (possibly one axis of the normal flipped) then it will be difficult to get the actual direction of the light.
In the videos I had the impression that the vertical axis of the light direction might be flipped.

It would be a good idea to also note what ships you are all flying, it might be bound to a few specific ship types.

Difficult to say, it might be if they both are using the same math functions.

A few days ago I found a possibly related problem when in the FSS. Sometimes it's not possible to zoom in on a star/planet while in the FSS-screen. When you zoom in, the camera immediately turns away and you can't get your cursor on the system body. It is very dependent on your orientation/position/distance to the system body in question. To me it looks like it might be a "gimbal lock"-problem, see the Wikipedia-page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimbal_lock

If they (FDEV) do have a gimbal lock problem in their 3D-math then some of these problems can be explained by it.
 
Tried to 'fall' off the edge between the asteroid belt and deep space in the SLF; looks like that works, until I logged on again. Fighter was immediately out of range, and self destructed in 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 seconds... :)

Edit: Seat of the pants size estimate for the Asteroid belt at my position.

Also interestingly, it says this:

" It contains many objects such as small and large rocks. The biggest object is the dwarf planet Ceres. Other large objects are the asteroids Vesta, Pallas and 10 Hygiea "

Has anyone ever come across these named objects? curious if they are actually in game or just supposed...
