Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Enough mining and exploration for now.

Heading back to the bubble to sell off the dearth of precious metals I got from the worst metallic rings in the galaxy, then I'm off to take a look at some abandoned settlements. Think they might be intesresting to pootle around.

Just waiting on my inept crew to plot the course. I may have to replace them with machines. New machines. Better than those on Richese.
Which Abandonded Settlements are you heading out to?

There is a mining CG going on at Eurybia at the moment one of the nearby mining locations might interest you as it has Tritium which I have set to ignore as it is no use for the CG.

What I'm up to?
Conducting a survey of a sector:

The borders are shaping quite nicely.
Luckily this is only 3 or 4 layers high one, otherwise it would be too much to handle alone. Even now I suppose I'll spend a full year here (in addition to the time, some 8 months, I've already spent).
:)

Bought a joystick. I had a Microsoft Sidewinder Standard in the '90s but haven't had one since then. I had a short list of criteria in mind:

  • sturdy construction
  • does not look like an android's personal massage device
  • a lot of hats
Enter CH Products Fighterstick USB. So far this is exactly what I imagined it'd be. Bonus points for the control software being really thorough, even allowing scripting for live sensor data manipulation. I think I'll buy the rest of the set from next salary.

I also got to re-enter all bindings as the game had forgotten them overnight. Thanks to @Para Handy for writing a forum post in 2019 mentioning the location of the preset file - now I have a backup!

I am just 400 LY from the intergalactic border, which is part of the the target exploration area I am working on. So far I have fully scanned 60 systems-all first submissions to EDSM as well as being previously undiscovered. It might not look like a lot, but the star density is very low where I presently am.

There are also lots of notable star phenomena in the sectors I am exploring. Unlike the previous 4 month long trip in which I found zero, in this trip I have already found more than 10 just in the target exploration area. Below are some examples.

I haven't been able to take hi res screenshots. I do press alt-f10 but the computer responds with volume level control instead, so right now I take screenshots with f10.

The area I am working on might not have the glamour or fame of Beagle Point or Salome's Reach, but it has areas that are hard to reach unless you have at least standard jumponium. I am now in an area in which jumps of at least 60 LY are the norm, and I have had to make a jump of about 106 LY to keep going (this means standard grade jumponium).

This also means that a full fuel tank is now a liability since I now need as much jump range as I can. So, I keep it half full at the most. In tis way I don't have to use basic jumponium when the systems are about 77 light years apart. If I filled the tank, I would have to use jumponium in this situation.

Congratulations on your project! Hopefully you have made many first discoveries and have found lots of high value planets.

Fly safe!

Did you look at the Logitech Extreme 3D pro? For a budget stick, it's pretty impressive although temporarily out of stock on Amazon.

Are peduncles scanable? If so, what treats do they yield?
