So where do RP bad guys stand?

As a long time Pirate (Retired) I think ganking, pirating, pvp, slave trading and killing civilians is fine.

What I don't think is fine is racist crap in discords and general anti social rubbish. I've heard anecdotally that's what was being peddled so if it is the case who cares what happens to them. I dont.

Some opinions don't matter. Well done FD.

If thats not the case then it seems a bit heavy handed but then FD is in with Epic now so they probably aren't calling all the shots.

I wouldn't worry about your gameplay. Dont be evil, don't get banned.

Simple .

Pulling finger out of rear-end to see which way the wind is blowing: Won't somebody please think about these heinous first-world children problems? Good heavens, their toys broke when they threw them out of the pram, the poor, daft, innocent victims of malicious cost saving mass-marketing measures! 🧐

Funny enough, this could probably apply to either side of the debate, assuming there is actually a debate and people aren't just bored with normal, consensual conversations on the internet... ;)

But only for the Xbox community?
Wasn't the whole shebang all Xbox players - no other platforms could have 'interacted' with the 'baddies', or even the 'goodies' 🤷‍♂️

I'm not entirerly sure to be honest, but the point still stands regardless of platform.

This is a non question isn't it, of course racism should be a no tolerance thing.

"Trusted" players .. or it's a ganker's charter, no?
It's interesting you say this. It reminds me of the "cool kids club" of the last big exploration community event. Gankers snuck into the exploration PG, killed some of the members, and magically the exploration cool kids got their data and ships restored by FDEV. It seems if you strike the right keys on the keyboard, the rules are pretty flexible. These "slavers" struck the wrong keys on Discord, so they be out.

Now we have the Galnet warning to noobs. There should also be a Galnet article about FC Slavers getting Witchspace sucked into parallel universes.

I know I keep beating this drum, but this is about design.

Players are like water running through plumbing. If you didn't do your plumbing job right, the toilet is going to back up.

It's not the fault of the water (or whatever is in the water).

I mean I understand your point and to a degree I get it, but this really isn't a plumbing (gameplay) issue, it is a media inflaming the public issue.

Elite Dangerous as a community does not profess to harbour nazis or slavers (out of game)! Elite Dangerous does not profess to promote racism.

Yet those are the narratives that are being promoted.

True but because they have to answer in hard code, it's not an easy trick for devs to keep up with shifting sands, whims and global trends of players, all at the same time. Stuff like this will help to inform devs of how to get the game to police itself but it's a truism that experience is what you get always right after you needed it! People joked about stranding people with carriers in beta .. but the specifics, of how players were recruited to the slave ships is only obvious now, after the event.

Also to be fair the two examples you give don't really compare with each other, either .. the first group (who were helped) were explorers whose position was given away by community management who joined the expedition, live streamed it, gave it a profile. The second group (who weren't helped) were slavers, which is illegal under all jurisdiction except anarchy and there's no evidence to suggest noobs were only recruited from anarchy systems. Meta version yes (dev magic) but they received a .. police response.

I’m not a cat slaver.

I don't think your statement is consistent with the player and NPC piracy and slave trading in game. It is also not consistent with the political types defined within the BGS, the mission narratives or even CGs related to slaving.

The players were engaging in activities permitted by the mechanics. As I have stated, there are many potential workarounds that could have circumvented this specific use of fleet carriers. In game communication systems consistent with actual MMOs. Commander FC to station or station to FC transportation in the same way that ships are transported. These are remedies that should have been available to these players. Not anticipating the stranding of players is a design issue.

The whole issue is being promoted on out of game media. The whole thing. I don't really understand what I am supposed to say to you here?

At the end of the day a simple self destruct should have sufficed given the ED is actually NOT A WALK IN AND PLAY GAME.

Whose parents' would encourage a kid to play ED except those who were prepared to spend time explaining ED? Really?
