Give Yamiks an Alpha key!

I wasn't going to say anything but there are a lot of people saying they should just give him the key anyway. Do you think it's right to give preferential treatment to someone who at a community meet cornered one of the developers and was having a go at them for being (well I can't actually use the words)?

I don't care if you're positive or negative about the game, but after the amount of abuse levelled at members of Frontier, online and in person, I cannot believe anyone is defending his position. It is possible to be critical of the game/company and yet not be abusive.

Besides the team handling it all is not the same as they were when Horizons launched. Should all of the content creators who were given keys for that be given keys for Odyssey (they're not)? Should they be given to creators who will bring in a new audience more relevant to Odyssey? Should they give them to people who do things to bring parts of the community together? Should they be given to people with more than a certain number of subscribers? Only Frontier can answer those questions, and they have.

The idea of digital keys being limitless and so there's no reason to not give him one is hilarious. If they're limitless why don't they give them to everyone then? There are Elite streamers with larger subscription bases than him, so why are you not up in arms that they're not getting one?

Content creators do not get access to the Alpha early

Thanks for clearing that up about the review key being for alpha access at the time of release.

I’ve never heard anything about an incident between Yamiks and one of the game developers. However, if the reason they don’t want to give him a key is because of that behaviour and due to some of his content, I think they should have been more forthright about it, rather than make an excuse about a limit on keys, when they’re the ones who decide how many to distribute, and rather than exclude him from a category that he obviously meets the criteria for. It’s insulting to the intelligence.

As to who should and shouldn’t be given a key, anyone with an opinion can answer that question, but only Frontier can make the decision. But that’s what we’re discussing here. I think that from the perspective of what may benefit sales, a content creator who’s been releasing as much material on Elite as Yamiks, for as long as he has, and with the significant viewership he has, should in general not be excluded. Preferably, inroads should be made from both sides to improve the relationship.

EDO gets a higher rating (14?) than Horizons, and apparently he was give multiple keys for that ...

NEXT! ;)
Maybe it's not exactly a PEGI issue then, but although Frontier can't be certain if content creators will not be critical of their game, they certainly know now how it will be presented by certain person. Why should they promote someone who makes their videos in such obnoxious way?

It was at Lavecon, there were a load of people there. It's not an accusation, it's just a statement of fact.
could you please explain what happened? i think it is totally relevant to sustain your argument. frontier can freely choose who they vouch for, but you can't simply disqualify a person in a public discussion based on past behavior that isn't really accounted for.

Can't see why he would make it up, so assuming it's true then yes.
well, it isn't enough for me, not by any stretch. so i ask.

I just watched a Yamiks YT vid this morning where he advised he received an official response from FD, turning him down when he requested an Alpha key to review Odyssey for his subscribers. Apparently they have limited Alpha keys reserved for their “ core content creators and the press”. He has 101k subscribers and is one of “THE” core content providers! He is not the largest but certainly in the top group. If this doesn’t send up a red flag about FD’s possible lack of confidence in their product I don’t know what does. Give the man a key! Yes he is more critical about the game than other creators but balanced reporting should be promoted.
The guy is negative to the extreme and spends more time slating and being non-constructive, to further his channel and rack up the clicks. If it is channel specific, then stump up the cash like everyone else and give something back to the people who support him, rather than just trying to bum things for free. A lot of these "content creators", like "Instagram influencers" offer nothing, but a way for them to make money, with controversial comments to stoke up likes and subscribes

Blaming and shaming. Reported.
Quite right too....

However... I saw @Yaffle heading this way with his hammer and a determined or possibly constipated look on his face...

Listen, I watch his videos and occasionally laugh at a joke, but giving him a key to an alpha that will be for testing and not previewing is asking for unwarranted trouble. I do agree sometimes with his points of view but he can be rude. I don't see him providing proper feedback but only bashing and criticizing for cheap jokes.

I'd much rather content creators like D2EA and Obsidian Ant get keys because they will properly test the game and properly provide feedback without being all rude about it. Yamiks I only see bashing the alpha release and crying even more about the lack of ship interiors (which I do agree with btw but doesn't belong in the testing feedback).

I'm not against the guy. I do watch his videos. But I don't watch most of them for proper insight into the game. He has enjoyable and sometimes insightful videos on ships and weapons but otherwise it's all just bashing the game and developers.

EDIT: Plus, does it even matter? He can just buy the alpha version and do whatever kind of review he wants.

Why is it an excuse? As I said in a previous post, having a limitless amount of keys being given away doesn't make sense from a company perspective. If that is the reason he and many others, who haven't made videos about it, were not included in the key giveaway then that's Frontier's choice.

There's nothing insulting about it at all. Have others taken the same level of offence?

Once again, no one is being excluded from anything. Some people are not getting something for free. It really is that simple.
