Community Event / Creation The C-Pod: A DIY Command seat (build log)

The quality and care you're putting in is fantastic. I can imagine all the little bits are starting to add up though, have you been keeping a record of all costs including incidentals or just the major bits?

Thanks Gomisan. I think the only additional items I've purchased/used since the previous running total are the badges/keyring (£13), m4 bolts (£3.50) and some 6mm MDF which I already had (estimate around £10). Thanks for reminding me to do this, I will update my list!

Slow going making the panel this morning, it's quite tricky as I thought it would be. I may have to redo this in 3mm rather than 6mm material but am not going to stop now and it may actually look really cool when it's done. It will look a lot neater when done, that much is certain. Probably about another 2-3 hours before it's complete. This is what I have so far:

Edit: thinking about it, I might see if I can find some red caps to fit over the existing buttons - it will also help to raise them a little. Need to start looking when I'm done with this.

A critical element, possibly most exacting part of the entire build, I'd suggest .....

Coming along nicely,TIOO. Keep it up. ^_^

Regarding the panel, do you know which switch you're going to assign to which function ingame? I might do a little design, not that I'm good at it, but I've got some inspiration from others in this thread. If you don't I'll just number them and save the project file.

@Tyrope
I'll be interested to see what you come up with too ..
Warthog's on my wishlist! (along with a CPU atm!)

But from what I can tell .. they're all toggle switches on the Thrustmaster throttle box?
What ED functions suit toggles the best?
(and what in-game actions will be most satisfying to a metallic flick over?)

It looks to be, so far ;)

Thanks and not yet Tyrope! I'd be very interested in seeing what you can come up with. Generic labels would be great for now :)

The panel has been cut and the fit tested:

Hurrah! Now I need to fill and sand ...

ED only uses toggle functions which means the same input alternates between ON and OFF.
Of course, as long as one uses hardware/software that converts constant toggle switches into an momentary input, nothing would stop you from assigning whatever functions you want to the toggles, issue would arise if you start the game with the switches in an unusual order, which would mean youd have a switch situated in OFF position, but the function ingame is ON.

The functions most suited for toggles would be such as deploy hardpoints, lights, landing gear etc.
My current setup uses momentary toggle switches, solving all the issues of constant signal inputs, but of course remove some fidelity from very serious sims.
I can tell you, though, that whenever I come in for landing, it feels really good to reach over and flick the LIGHTS switch followed by the slightly larger LANDING GEAR switch :)
Really feels like im in control!

Oh yeah ... :)

So .. momentary toggling .. how are you achieving that?
Is it achievable with the Warthog switches? Via intermediate software?
Or do you use a different controller from TIOO?

I dont have a warthog, sorry I should have been clear about that.
But ive build a simple simpit for my desktop in which ive mounted several panels with various buttons and switches.
To avoid alot of the headache I choose SPDT momentary toggles.

If using a constant (sticking) switch, you need some kind of hardware or software that takes that constant signal and cuts it off after a few millisecs. Ive never been involved in configuring such functions but I know its possible and probably not very difficult but youll need to do some research for it :)

I might upgrade my hotas in the future, but I think ill be aiming for the saitek X65, if I can find it when that day comes.

How about putting some pics and specs in your other thread (which I'm also following) describing what you have at the moment? Some of it might be adapted to your new build, to save you having to go shopping again too much? :D

Finally finished the panel after pretty much a full day's work. There is still some additional work to do to integrate it into the case more effectively.
