just a idea, what if you could deploy mining robots, you could mine multi places at once, then go collect them (group at a time) cash in the minerals, collect your other group of robots, cash them in etc...

if anybody steals your robots while they are mining, you are entitled to request full payment from them or kill.

Mining - Advice and Discussion

Any info on how mining works? Do you need a specific ship, or just a mining laser perhaps? What are the mechanics? Is it just asteroids or can you collect gases from nebulae?

Would appreciate any info if available.

From what I've seen so far you need a mining laser and something called a refinery which goes in your internal slots. Don't know how to use either yet.

I've just started mining and think I have if mostly figured out, but I was under the impression you could "scan" an asteroid to find its contents? Is this true or am I merely speculating?

I thought so too but so far nothing. You also need a refinery but you can put it in your cargo hold then you'd not be able to scoop anything.

My problem is finding the dang detailed scanner

Ok so got the lasers and refinery and started mining.....way way way too time consuming can't imagine it in a larger more cumbersome ship.

laser the roid....small roid burst out at mach 3....chase said mach 3 roid scoop it and get that % of ore/mineral towards a single unit/ton.

Not to mention most of the roid areas will be camped they do not really have a place to hide at all.

I'm using the Cobra to mine atm I just equipped the Refinery in a spare Internal Compartment slot I had.

There is a detailed scanner at Styx - Chu Hub atm for me so you could try there, but is that what you need to scan Asteroids?

Yeh I think for mining at least there needs to be some sort of "hoover" or perhaps a collection "Droid" ?

Or how about a retractable arm?

You need to buy a refiner and lasers? Then you go to a resource extraction site and shoot roids until they pop, then scoop them and see what you got? Is that the gist?

Is it easy to find the lasers & refiner?

There are many many many more roid areas than there will ever be players. It would be correct to say that some will be camped, but the majority will be more or less free. You will still show up on SC if someone happens to go by and look thought.

Did you goto any asteroid field, or a resource extraction site? And also, did you have to scan the asteroid first?
