Horizons/Odyssey Compatibility - Further Details

Well, the announcement for Autumn appears confident...

Those of us who have purchased Odyssey will find out tomorrow if there are notable issues with Odyssey. The community has always been split with no crossplay and having 3 modes for each platform, it is only a few months until 'unification' - as much as that might mean.
I for one have not enough trust in FD to pre-order anything. Thanks to those that have pre ordered or buy on launch day, I can make a grounded decision instead of trusting a company.
Let's see what major bugs and exploits will be introduced this time. I need some credits replenished after all ...

True. I was more referring to bug fixes that will (not?) be backported from Odyssey, including but not limited to the bounties/bonds display still being off after 6 months.

Though if there is a patch I don’t really get why they keep separate binds files.

The current Horizons binding file is version 3.0, Odyssey one looks to be version 4.0. That change is fairly normal.

It's also normal for the base game to get some updates at the same time as optional updates are added. For example the Horizons release (in late 2015) was both version 2.0 (Horizons) and 1.5 (vanilla).

Well from what I can see a 780 is not too different from a 770, but the sticking point seems to be it has 3gb VRAM whereas the 770 only had 2gb. My 960 is only 2gb which I suspect might be an issue...
I can't speak for Odyssey, but I was able to run Horizons well under minimum specs. It didn't run well, 16 fps in stations, but better than I expected on a windows tablet.

It’s fairly annoying that you’ll have two separate bindings files. Especially for people that use the same profile for both, but still end up with diverging bindings if they don’t take care.

About the specs, even if they don't look as an improvement, maybe they did optimize Odyssey enough to make them accurate, since in the alpha they weren't accurate at all.
That would still be a step ahead (for now).

Realistically though, since how they handled this, i don't expect even the minor improvements i was expecting anymore

How often do you change your bindings? I agree it could be better, anything can always be better :)

It is what it is, better to know than not know imo.

Great info on the compatibility, looking forward to the full compatibility for all players.
I will most likely stick to Odyssey since my friends also have it.

The Holo-Me reset is a bummer, but it makes sense if you consider that going back to the old client with your live profile wasn't the original plan.
We are in agreement there...

Fortunately my 2 active accounts will have Odyssey tomorrow (and the people I do play in-game with will also have Odyssey) and I shouldn't need to change - my avatar didn't look half as good as the one you created, but I wouldn't be best pleased to keep re-creating it.

This makes it sound like there will be a choice. Will both the old and new UIs be available, then? Because I doubt that's what you meant to say. :)
There won't be a choice, it will be one single client (if they actually manage to get there)
