Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Carriers are still stuck in place. I've managed to find a couple more biologicals, such as they are. Grass. Bacteria.

I have seen signals for Geological features as well, but I haven't found any of those. I wanted to see if they still dropped materials. None of the Biologicals I've found had any materials on them.

I am NOT liking this new heatmap feature on the DSS. It's unclear what any of the colors mean, and on top of that they are affected by the underlying terrain which makes them even more unclear.

A sad ending for someone else's journey (there were several escape pods laying about):

I got fined and wanted. Got sent to pris. The look of the place was quite intimidating. I paid off my dues and found another planet, this time with... plants and biomaterial. I got my first chunk of matter: lime.

EDIT NInja'd! Seems I'm following in Codger's foosteps!

EDIT 2: Come on Devs! Let us jump our carriers already!

EDIT 3: That sounded salty. Been playing for 2.5 years so am I qualilfied to spray the stuff?

Your green Krait looks mean as hell. Noice.

Also, re: carriers - I don't really know how carriers work, but can't you just go where you originally wanted to go and call your carrier to you when it can move again?
You sound like you're enjoying being stranded, though. :)

No, it says something about "time"... which is... odd. HG Wells would be giggling furiously.

I don't have much to say to most your your post (other than that your rants are entertaining and mostly relatable) but I would like to react to this last bit.
This "IF ONLY" is exactly what's going to be happening in the future. Just like the original game changed and improved drastically during its six years run, so will Odyssey.

It's a great framework for a great future game. :)
Until then, I'm going to be enjoying what IS in here, and try not to think too much about things that aren't. This proved to be a great strategy to enjoy the game in long term.
I really really hope so. I do understand the sandbox is way huge and to make even some small % of the locations unique or with some story or special npcs would take a huge amount of work so I do hope improvements will come. Because the other option is just skipping the repetition because walking into a station/outpost will be no different from the ship going into hanger animation after some time.

Not sure if anyone here ever played the 'Interesting npcs/3dnpc' mod in Skyrim. If we can get some semblance of that in Elite.. OH WOW.

p.s. So is anyone else seeing the blank mission boards?

Yeah, but that would require me to have planned ahead to have a ship capable of going that far without carrier support, and of course I haven't planned it that way. I no longer have any true exploration ships -- most don't even have fuel scoops -- because having the carrier has changed how I play and how I plan my trips. Also, since there is no way to remotely fuel your carrier, you can only go so far ahead of it because it will run out of fuel before it gets to you otherwise.

I'm sure they'll let us jump our carriers again, I just hope it's not too much longer. :)

Last hour at work and then I'm finally going to dive into Odyssey properly.

Managed only the introduction and three missions in the morning, which consisted mostly of running around, gazing at stuff, battling with new UI and discovering various ways one can interact with surface bases.
So hopefully tonight I'm going to... Well, first I'm going to have to take the taxi to the imperial space, I guess. which will cost me all the money I've earned so far, but then I'm going to properly sink my teeth into it.
Looking forward to that. Maybe in the morning I'll be able to buy my first ship! Although I am not sure I want to, now. I kind of enjoy taking the taxi everywhere. Maybe I'll buy one once I'm ready to go explore. :)

Yes, spacing the passengers is always the best course of action.

In all seriousness, though, do report this, because if that mission update didn't save you, that would be an undoable mission, which is clearly a bug.
Or just add to the following error report. I checked earlier and noticed a few of us were having the same problem but this one seems to have stuck around and gained a couple of extra comments. It's obviously a serious issue because, apart from the loss of reward and time, you're facing fines, bounties, loss of rep, and may also have to muck around with more bookmarks to remind you of sites which have ghost ports (I literally just engaged in a massive bookmark genocide as well).

Not only that but it's an issue which could potentially extend beyond the non-beta release in August. ;)

Oh, a big "0" birthday! Many happy returns! May your backpacks be lined with plant stuffs and materials galore!

So, I made a planetary landing. In my excitement to get down there on foot, I overlooked its gravity. Ouch.

Moving around in the SRV seems a little choppy so I'm fiddling with graphics settings but nothing I do seems to make any difference whether setting them to high or low values. The experimentation continues.
Just make sure super sampling is set to no higher than one. You may even have to temporarily go into the negative for some activities.

Personally, I've gone back up to ultra with super sampling on 1.0 because I get smooth play with the ship in and around stations. Obviously I'll probably whittle this down as I try new types of gameplay over time, but with any luck they'll successfully optimise the game and I won't have to compromise.

To be honest though, I tried both Odyssey and Horizons with 2.0 super sampling as I floated around a station and Horizons felt a smidge smoother with my current hardware. I may have to bring that final computer upgrade forward and get me a new PSU/GPU anyway. Things are just a bit tighter right now, what with the Japanese blowing up their chip factories and such.

AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CODGER!!😀😎🥳

Happy birthday, Codger!

Realising us poor console players will be light years behind for Odyssey discoveries just dawned on me. Ach.

But servers appear a little flakey just loading up missions in Horizons. Oh, and now they’re coming down. Better squash these pirates quick.
