Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I've been using taxis so far and I've walked around an Eagle and DBX that were docked at the settlement I was on to admire the new models and textures.

But now as I was just casually walking towards my new objective, I just witnessed a Beluga landing right in front of me.
Frick this thing is huge.
I mean. I've played in VR, I have some sense of scale and all that, but it really is something else to come close to a landing leg of this humongous whale and look up. Wow.

I had to change my plans a bit, because FD is still blocking carrier jumps. So I'm stuck in a section of space just outside the bubble a bit, and not where I had planned to be at all.

I decided to make the best of it and attempt to explore where I am. Seems to be mostly discovered around here -- I'm not that far out yet.

But, I did find a landable planet, with a small atmosphere, that wasn't mapped, only discovered. So I made that my first 'first footfall' planet. It's called "IC 2602 SECTOR RE-O B7-7 B 2 A", a name that I will never remember so I better bookmark it :p

To my surprise and pleasure, there were biological signals on the planet, too.

So, here I am, scanning my first exobiological specimen. It's a "Fonticulua Campestris", some kind of photosynthetic colony organism.

There another lifeform on the planet, some kind of bacteria. I haven't see it yet.
If you use the pulse mode of the bio sampler and areas of ground or rock glow then that is probably due to bacteria.

I managed to mine the Panite requied to unlock Selene. I got 16 tons and what do I get? Dropped from the game in Hyperspace.
When I relogged I was in the system I jumped to, but 1200ls from the station. So I Supercruise to the station, drop out from Supercruise and nearly smash into the back of the station.
The dog next door started barking from my exclamation of surprise!
Called over the Python to load up and head to Kuk.

Got downloaded, new legs yeah.
Liked the intro tutorial. All the burning stations at the thargoid areas, can not find any supply stores. So took the long jump phantom back to the bubble stopping at a few atmos planets to get first footfall. When I get to the big station the supply store has no suits or weapons for sale?
Where's my pioneer suit they promised?

Was trying some good old PvE in Ody, sort of letting my anger towards a few NPCs. That was when I noticed that the poor Cobra I was trying to kill seemes like it was built of something not destroyable. Thought I was rusty, so I went back and switched to the Vette. In that, which is normally "fishing in a barrel", I had a proper fight with a Conda. It took ages, so I'm probably rusty...

The eyecandy when the Conda finally blew was very cool (y)

Spent the evening trying to get Odyssey to launch, it really doesn't want to.

Almost wish the Two. Day. Download had lasted longer now. :ROFLMAO:
Be stubborn. That worked for me :)

I originally bought the game at Oculus store, but when I recently upgraded my gaming rig, I bought a new copy at Steam. After some brute force trial and error I managed to log into that copy using my old credentials. Likewise, I bought Odyssey yesterday from Steam, but found no way of launching it, even though it was downloaded and installed. Then I retried the brute force, resetting my password several times and logging into to several Frontier sites I didn't know existed. Finally I logged out of the launcher, after not starting in VR, and then I were greeted by orange buttons letting me sign in. Took a few hours, and then the servers crashed.

Still, it was worth it. Odyssey is not finished, but it does have potential, once the bugs are "fixed" and the graphics come out of the dark again. In VR, it's like wearing welding goggles at night.

Greetings!

I arrived home at 12:02 AM local time on Tuesday. I left my home base on January 27 so this was another 4 month exploration journey.

I made 1,075,685,024 CR as a result of the first phase of exploring Mare Orientalis. It takes some time to adjust from a virtually black cockpit devoid of any stars to one full of them and with plenty of signs of civilization. After flying the Anaconda for all these months, even the Python feels like a sports racer by comparison.

As for Odyssey, it took about 8 hours to download. There are some things I immediately noted:

1. The graphics are darker than in Horizons
2. Where are the "first discovered" and "first mapped by" tags? I looked for them in the system maps and I see none
3. The icons depicting the NPCs in stations and even my CMDR icon are missing-and in the mission boards, the NPCs don't load
