I think you can, that should not be a problem. In fact there are some people who still play horizons only. Installation of odyssey is completely optional and should not interfere with horizons.A silly, probably obvious question., if I may...

If I start up the launcher, can I still just run Horizons as usual, and not install Odyssey?

yes just update horizons and then play - no need to press install / update on ody until you want to

Tried my first ground mission. Grab something from a wreckage, threat 2. Easy enough. Just fly there, land at marker and long range snipe 3 goons guarding the wreckage.
Tried 2nd mission, go into some settlement and retrieve some guys 'unusual entertainment media'. Threat 3, should be easy. Uhhh, I need authorisation level 1 to open the door, ok ok I shall snipe someone from far and clone his level 1. Ran far away, hid in the shadows and took a long range shot. Headshot! Instakill! I am l337! What? Instant bounty for murder. Pew pew pew, I am dead. Now I gotta take taxi and then call for my ship back.
Can you possibly pull off Skyrim style sneaky kills or is any kind of assassination gonna get you a bounty?

Grr. Where do I see my shield strength and combat percentage to next rank now?
Also, I've just handed in some codex discos but they still show as claimable on my transactions panel.
EDIT Must be server lag. Transactions all paid in now... still can't find the wretched rating though.

In a round about way at least. Though I don't think the actual download of Odyssey will do any more damage to Horizons that has already been done. At this point I'd probably just download the bloody thing if I had the space. You may unexpectedly find that it runs well enough on your machine that you don't feel a need to use Horizons any more. Computers can be weird and funny like that.
And now... I have one moisannite in my ship inventory. I can transfer mutliple times to my carrier and it still says it's in my inventory - yet it increments by one each time on the carrier.
Since my carrier is still stranded, and no end in sight, I decided to get in the DBX and trek on back to the bubble.
I have heard numerous reports about people finding pre-upgraded suits for sale in random ports, not the same for everyone. Seems to be a new RNG thing. So I'm gonna futz around looking for suits. Maybe I can get lucky and avoid at least some of the upgrade grind.
Did any of you notice that they've removed the percentage readout on rank progression? It's no longer displayed on the right panel, nor in the Codex. You cannot tell your exact rank percentage, all you have is a progress bar. It's daft.

That is correct. I bought yesterday a grade 4 Dominator suit, and a grade 2 or 3 manticore plasma rifle. If that is what you mean by pre upgraded.
I think it was the kalb system, cannot remember since i moved away from there.

People who never play the game. There's so many things wrong now. I was in one ship and plotted a route. I changed to another ship and opened the galaxy map, expecting it to replot. It did not. In fact, I could not get it to replot at all without first choosing a different target, plotting to there, then choosing my original target, and replotting again.
And I know it's not gonna get fixed any time soon, because there are so many other truly game-breaking bugs.
I expected a messy release. Guess I'm not surprised. But sheesh...

It's good to see most people feel the same about these things.
I mean, I love Odyssey so far. But these little things really annoy me. Especially if it's things that worked fine before and didn't need any "improving"

Yes, that's what I mean. You can't engineer a grade 1 suit or weapon, it has no engineering slots.
I've already found grade 2 Artemis and Maverick suits. This might turn out to be a good time to find them, before the drop rate is nerfed.
